Call to order is an anti-crime initiative launched by the Ministry of National Security and its Minister Fitzgerlad Hinds today at City Hall in Port of Spain.

They believe a local collaboration between local musicians and the ministry can impact at-risk communities and stymie gang recruitment and gang violence across the country.

Mark Bassant explains in this report.

00:00This song by homegrown musicians Mr. King, iSasha, King David, Prophet Benjamin and Izigi
00:13Ranking attracted the Ministry of National Security's attention after it was released
00:18on social media a few weeks ago.
00:20They saw this song as a bridge to reach out to the youth in the hope of containing gang
00:24violence and murders and so the ministry reached out for a meaningful collaboration.
00:29One which Minister of National Security Fitzgerald Hines says is gravely needed to save the youth,
00:35mainly between the ages of 15 to 24 from the scourge of crime and criminality that a country
00:40now faces.
00:41How do we pull back?
00:43How do we as Mr. King say push back?
00:46Because the business of leadership now in a country, the business of parenting is no
00:51longer a passive sit back, pray and hope for the best.
00:57It requires far more activity than that.
01:00You have to fight to hold the youngsters now.
01:03They're resisting teachers, they're resisting parents, they're resisting police, they're
01:09resisting even inside of the services.
01:13If the truth be told, it's not easy.
01:16Minister Hines says that while music has the power to engender violence, it also has the
01:20power to persuade, transform and heal and he was confident that the collaboration with
01:26these local musicians can have the latter effect.
01:30The local musicians, also part of this project, are also hopeful that it can transform the
01:35landscape into one of positivity and upliftment for the youth.
01:40I believe it is much needed in today's society.
01:42We need to start to fight back with some positive message in.
01:46Now if we could take that same power and put it towards life, lifestyle choices and behavioural
01:51patterns, that would be a great thing.
01:53This project is a divine project sent from the most high to cover the people of Trinidad
01:58and Tobago.
01:59Because of what is going on in the country, we're losing too much and it's too much males
02:04we're losing.
02:05So anything to save the youths and them, I dare, I'm here to serve.
02:09Several ambassadors of countries such as China, Australia, Japan and Canada were also present
02:14during the initiative and some had already offered up ideas to Minister Hines to collaborate
02:19in order to stymie violent crime in this country.
