00:00Let's get to some of the big, young, bright spots here in Major League Baseball.
00:06What could be James Wood's debut yesterday with the Nationals?
00:10How about this?
00:11Does get a base hit.
00:12Does get a walk.
00:13Let me ask you this question.
00:14The expectations coming up for Wood?
00:16And also, what are the expectations for him with the Nationals?
00:19Will he stay in the Majors with them?
00:22He's arguably been one of the best hitters in all of Minor League Baseball the last couple
00:26of years.
00:27So, Donnie, it's an impossible question for me to answer as to whether or not he clicks
00:31immediately or he clicks in a month or two or three or even next season.
00:36Some guys come up.
00:37They're immediately fantastic.
00:38Others, it takes some time.
00:40Look, the expectation is that Wood will be good right away.
00:43And they also have a lot of other young kids coming on the way, too.
00:46Dylan Cruz is another one that they got in that Juan Soto trade.
00:48I think the bottom line when you look at it, it maybe isn't as much Wood as is the fact
00:53that it was so unpopular at the time when the Nationals traded Juan Soto.
00:57I mean, we could go back.
00:59If we were doing a show and I was coming on during that time, the media was just absolutely
01:03crushing Washington for making that move.
01:06Meanwhile, good by the Yankees to get Juan Soto.
01:09It's going to push them maybe to the postseason this year.
01:11But what are the Padres doing on a year-to-year basis, right?
01:14It's really hard to figure out which direction they're going to go.
01:18They got Michael King back in return for Soto.
01:21But San Diego, in a way, has set up the Washington Nationals for the future.
01:29And their future may be as soon as next year.
01:31They're right back where they need to be.
