00:00my second one is going to be Brett Beatty of the New York Mets so this has been one of
00:07your
00:07favorites uh for a long time and I was talking with managing editor of just baseball.com Ryan
00:14Finkelstein about Brett Beatty earlier and he was praising Beatty for his ability to move around
00:21the diamond we already know we could play a good third base which if Bo Bichette can't handle third
00:28Bo Bichette would move to DH and Brett Beatty could be the starting third baseman but he's also played
00:33some first base in spring and Fink said he looked really good and he could also hold his own in
00:38right field let's say if Carson Bench just struggles as a rookie so he can be a super utility player
00:45routinely in the lineup and also something about Brett Beatty is his OPS has steadily
00:51climbed against lefties year over year since he debuted now it's not a huge sample but it's good
00:57to see a guy getting better and speaking about getting better in the second half of last season
01:03to hit 291 on base percentage of 353 477 slug for an 830 OPS with the same amount of home
01:12runs
01:12and stolen bases than in the first half in 50 less ABs there's some swing and miss in his game
01:17but he doesn't chase strikeout rate should eventually come down walk rate should go up
01:24I think Brett Beatty could be a three and a half to four win player and I think that would
01:27certainly constitute a breakout
01:28yeah I'm kind of pissed I didn't pick him there uh because I have been steadfast on him I mean
01:34he's I think Beatty showed a lot of positives to where there was points where people were saying
01:39hey he's a change of scenery candidate no no like this is a guy now that I think you have
01:42a lot more
01:43confidence and being consistent over 160 plus than you know a Mark Viento so I think what he showed
01:50in the second half uh as you mentioned just the improvements and the versatility uh because now
01:55yes he's absolutely a guy that has progressed to be a solid third baseman but now you know in spring
02:00training he's played some first base he's always been comfortable there he's played second base at
02:03the end of last year and the reps that he's getting in right field as well this really is a
02:07true
02:08utility guy that's going to keep his bat in the lineup and as you mentioned the improvements
02:12against lefty so you don't have to platoon him if you don't have a better short platoon option
02:16and then just how productive he has been against righties it really just comes down to him hitting
02:20hitting the ball in the air I think a little bit more consistently he started to do that through
02:24stretches but I think this is going to be a really good year for Beatty in a situation where
02:28he's seeing consistent at-bats like he did in the second half last year and
02:32in a lineup that's going to mash
02:33you
