00:00I do think for Fitzpatrick, even though that tee shot aside, like he did not lose this tournament, right?
00:06What we saw was an amazing battle between two players that gave us all the excitement we expect out of
00:11a tournament like this.
00:12And for him as well, I think it's interesting how some parts of his narrative mirror Cam Young's, like going
00:19back to like May 2025 on, he's really found his form again.
00:23The form we saw when he won that U.S. Open several years ago, we had Mark Blackburn on the
00:28show recently to talk about the work they've done, the changes they've made.
00:32And if you've not seen that, like definitely worth revisiting that conversation because it sets the table for a lot
00:37of what we saw today at the players.
00:39But a similar question I have for you than the one I asked you about Cam is like if you're
00:43going back to 2024 or early 2025 and you're looking at the things that Matt Fitzpatrick's doing that have him
00:50not playing his best version of his golf.
00:51And then you witnessed what you did today at TPC Sawgrass.
00:55Like where are the key differences that you're seeing?
00:57Well, Fitzy, you know, I think the big, big difference and changes that Mark Blackburn has helped make in his
01:03game is that he had gained all this speed and he was chasing speed so much.
01:07And that when he showed up to Mark, he was looking for more precision in his short iron play.
01:14And you really started to see that throughout all last year.
01:18He started driving a little bit better, worked on techniques up in his golf swing.
01:22It's pretty high level stuff when you go listen to that conversation with Mark and Fitzy that honestly, I think
01:30somebody like Fitzy would be able to comprehend this type of high level information.
01:36When Mark was talking about all the things that they were working on, even for myself, I was like, whoa,
01:42that's a lot.
01:43You know, it's it's how how he pushes into the ground with the left foot.
01:46It's how his hands move through the shot.
01:50And Fitzy is a very, very intelligent individual and somebody that I think is can handle that.
01:56Right. And I think he wants to to improve as much as he possibly can.
02:00And the shots that he can hit off the tee, this bullet driver that he hits is just lethal, man.
02:06He I guess he only probably missed 10 fairways or 11 fairways on the week.
02:09He was the best off the tee accuracy.
02:13He's he's always been a really great putter.
02:15That's something that has always stuck out to me.
02:17And and to the the poise, the poise is the last thing I'll mention is that Fitzy never looks like
02:24he's out of control.
02:26He always seems that he can control the moment and and it won't be too big for him.
02:31And like you said, he he didn't lose his tournament today.
02:34But I think he'll look back on three key moments.
02:36I think he'll look back on the chip shot at nine and not getting up and down to par five
02:40from over the green.
02:41I think he'll think about the three putt that he had at the 11th hole from the front of the
02:45green.
02:46And then I think he'll think about that tee shot that he had at the 18th about did I hit
02:51the right club?
02:52Yeah. Yeah, I think it's it certainly was.
02:56Yeah, I'm looking.
02:57He's speaking right now in the media and just looking at that scorecard and, you know, and the bogey at
03:0114,
03:02which was a really tough, a tough two putt where he was at, you know, that that one wasn't the
03:07one that cost him.
03:09Sure, you'd love to have two putted there.
03:11But 14 is that that back left pin.
03:13It's so difficult to to putt.
03:15He got it a little bit in between clubs between a six and a seven iron at 14.
03:20I thought, you know, the six iron was the play in which he couldn't be aggressive,
03:24but at least he got him on the green.
03:25That was never a birdie hole.
03:27And just unfortunate for me, they just got the speed a little wrong on that first one.
03:31And then, of course, I'm showing the video of him going over to Cam Young's family to kind of give
03:35them hugs
03:35and congratulate them to class move from him to guys that are close friends.
03:39I talked to him after the round, interviewing him a couple of questions.
03:42But before that, you know, his spirits were pretty high.
03:44And the first thing that he said to me, he looked down at his fake watch.
03:48He pointed down, he said, Valspar starts on Thursday.
03:52And I was like, I was like, yep, the circus just keeps going on, doesn't it, buddy?
03:56And he just started laughing.
03:58Is he playing Valspar?
03:59Will you be in the field there?
04:00Well, I mean, I assume so based off of that comment.
04:02We wouldn't have said that.
04:04But it's funny.
04:05We were about to come down to our interview.
04:08And, you know, I'm waiting for Kyra to send it over to us.
04:10And I look over at Fitz.
04:11He's on his phone.
04:12Figured he was texting.
04:13But he was doing exactly what any golf geek would do.
04:18And I'm not calling Fitzy a golf geek.
04:21But I am in this sense that he had DataGolf pulled up and looking at his stats.
04:24And I was like, this is great, man.
04:27Love that.
04:28Love that.
04:29He's like, I want to know how many shirks gain off the tee I had this week because I striped
04:33it.
