A connection has been made between the murder of taxi driver Shellon Walters-Joseph and a shooting in Speyside, Tobago. Sources close to the case tell TV6 News that the shooting in Speyside has a connection to a controversial Tobago artiste who lives in Trinidad. One man was targeted in the shooting outside Nine's bar, but six others who were in the vicinity were shot. This was confirmed by Chief Secretary Farley Augustine during an interview with the media. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.

00:00Our understanding is that part of that you know is is the drug trade and the
00:06target was one individual but you recognize how many others were impacted
00:11although the target was one in the individual and then that came from that
00:18all seemed to be related to the murder of a young lady or the death of a young
00:24lady we saw the body at Mount St. George yes and it will appear at this point as
00:29if the two incidents are related. Chief Secretary Farley Agustin during an
00:34interview with the media on Monday murdered taxi driver Sheldon Walters
00:39Joseph's car was recovered by police in Dullaford Tobago near the home of a
00:44controversial dancehall artiste who lives in Trinidad. Mrs. Walters Joseph's
00:50taxi was hired by two men who later robbed and murdered her. Her body was
00:56thrown over a precipice in Mount St. George. Meantime Chief Secretary Farley
01:01Agustin said talks have since been had with members of the Spaceside Village
01:07Council following last Friday's drive-by shooting. The police already have leads
01:13and have acted on those leads right where about three or so young men are deemed to be
01:19the perpetrators and and that's that's being settled thankfully no one died.
01:25Last Saturday's murder in Tobago was the seventh for the year.
01:29Agustin said the present crime surge is unacceptable. It is always unacceptable
01:36for me and every single murder we have on the island I think is one too much
01:41and it's a fight that we have a fight to retain our society as it were and to
01:50keep out the negative influences the negative vices the negative social
01:55actions and negative social behaviors so it's a constant fight and we can't let
02:00up because the criminals are not letting up. The Chief Secretary praised the
02:04community of Spaceside for assisting police in their investigation into last
02:09Friday's drive-by shooting by standing against the criminal elements. The police
02:15as I said they are following the leads that they have the leads that the
02:19community is coming forward with and I must thank the community of Spaceside
02:24for not just staying quiet but actually stepping forward and providing the
02:29necessary evidence and information to the police and providing the leads for
02:35the police to follow. Elizabeth Williams TV6 News
