00:00 On the 31st of January, a mother and her two daughters were the victims of an acid attack
00:06 in Clapham. The search is ongoing for suspect Abdel-Ezedi and the Met Police now believe
00:12 that Ezedi may have jumped into the River Thames later that night. On Sunday 11th February,
00:18 a man threatened a bus driver, claiming he was in possession of acid as well. So how
00:24 are Londoners feeling after these incidents and do they feel safe in the capital?
00:29 I think that is something that is concerning considering it did happen years ago, it was
00:33 a big thing years ago and for it to happen again, I feel like there's a lot of things
00:36 going on in the world right now. A lot of people aren't really in good places right
00:41 now so doing anything they can maybe for attention, never know but I'm a bit more cautious on
00:49 the roads if I'm being honest. I mainly stay at home or go to the gym, that's about it.
00:53 I don't really want to be outside anymore.
00:57 I personally have been lucky, I've never had any issues on the street in London, I've never
01:03 been a victim of crime but of course you do hear about it. Considering the size of London,
01:09 I think we're relatively crime free community, I think we do quite well but obviously there
01:15 are going to be people who are made ill by social pressures or whatever, their mental
01:23 health is not great and will carry out these kind of activities. It's difficult in any
01:29 big city to be crime free. I don't think it's a big problem, I wouldn't focus on it, I wouldn't
01:36 feel afraid to walk on the street at the moment anyway.
01:40 Well it's terrible that it's going on but I've never really particularly felt any danger
01:46 when I've been in London myself. I've always felt very safe wandering around but I know
01:52 there's a lot of knife crime in some areas and particularly for young men it's more of
01:57 a danger. So an acid is one of the most frightening things, throwing acid, but I think it's fairly
02:06 rare and given the numbers of people around it's not something I'm going to worry personally
02:12 about but it's just terrible for the victim and victims.
02:16 I think London is as safe as any other big city. I lived in Berlin and in Hamburg before
02:21 so you would see these things as well but London is a bit bigger and that's why you
02:26 see it a bit more often. I'm not really concerned about myself being attacked with acid but
02:32 when you come home in the night, yes okay, you walk a bit faster.
