Following on from another brilliant Pride weekend we asked people on the street about what it means to them and what it means to Manchester.

00:00Hello and welcome to Manchester World. My name is Theo Hewson-Bertz and today I'm out on the streets of Manchester asking people about Pride.
00:07That's because Manchester Pride was here over the weekend just gone and it really was a brilliant celebration of everything that that community has to offer and brings to the brilliant city of Manchester.
00:17Now we saw some brilliant headliners and some brilliant performers taking to the stage over the course of those three or four days.
00:24People like Danny Beard with his brilliant show and then singers such as Nelly Furtado, Talisa, Leigh-Anne and so so many more.
00:32It really is one of the best weekends in Manchester's social calendar and we're already looking forward to next year's festival but today we're out on the streets of Manchester to ask people about Pride.
00:41Who do they want to see at next year's festival? What did they make of this year's and why do they think it's so important to the city and the people of Manchester?
00:49Why do we think Pride means so much to Manchester? What does it mean to you as well?
00:54I just think Manchester is just a really inclusive city and it's a comfortable safe place for everybody.
00:59I think it's synonymous with sort of Manchester history really. It's a representation of what Manchester's been through as a city and what people have had to turn to get where we are today.
01:10So I think it's always a great celebration of different people from different backgrounds and sexualities.
01:16So I think, yeah, it's meaningful in Manchester because I feel like it's one of the sort of poems of the Pride movement and yeah.
01:28Tovelo definitely. I'm really annoyed she's not already been. Madonna of course.
01:34Oh yeah. Probably beneath her but I think she shows. Kylie. Kylie definitely as well. In fact, I think Kylie's been to Castlefield Bowl before so there's no reason why she can't come back again.
01:43Yeah, I think it's massively important because really that's when it's a city coming together and it's, as I say, you know, you don't have to be someone that feels like they're part of necessarily the gay community but you could have friends or family or just want to go experience that and it's a celebration for all.
02:00I think it's definitely that, that it's inclusive but even if you're not gay, you're welcomed, you make friends, everybody's in a lovely mood, everybody's friendly.
02:11I mean, me and Neil Spind have been to Pride a number of times and we've thoroughly enjoyed it. It's been brilliant.
02:18Well, I feel like Chapel Rowan's been pretty massive this year although, you know, I know she's played sort of Blastonbury and Reading and Leeds so hopefully get her down to Manchester Pride but I think she's obviously massively popular within the gay community and, you know, myself included so, yeah.
02:36Manchester's got a big steeped history of fighting for rights of anybody who is underprivileged and the gay village has been around for a very long time and I think it's not going anywhere and it's getting bigger so I think because of that you're never going to lose the importance of having the weekend.
02:55interested in the audience.
