00:00 All aboard the Parramatta light rail.
00:06 This is a momentous day for this part of our city because testing has commenced.
00:12 Western Sydney residents will start seeing the brand new trams gliding by.
00:16 Estimated to start with 30,000 maybe 28,000 people on this service from I reckon day one.
00:23 The new light rail service is another step down the path of developing Sydney's second CBD,
00:28 connecting the growing population to jobs and critical landmarks.
00:32 Combank Stadium, the new Parramatta powerhouse, new urban renewal and social housing and private housing opportunities,
00:40 both at Tilopia but also at Rose Hill.
00:44 The government's expecting 130,000 people will be living within walking distance of the Parramatta light rail stage one.
00:51 That's 13 trams stopping at 16 stations, connecting commuters from Westmead to Carlingford
00:57 all the way through the heart of the Parramatta CBD.
01:00 Having the light rail will actually really help even though it's a really short distance.
01:03 It actually will help me a lot to be honest.
01:06 I'm actually excited. I really am excited.
01:09 That's really good news because it's just been so much construction work here and no retail.
01:15 Look at around. It's dead.
01:17 We used to be on the 48th Joe Street. That's the reason because that's going to open soon.
01:21 We moved to this office two months back.
01:23 With stage one almost complete, attention will soon turn to stage two, to Olympic Park.
01:29 The government insists it's well underway and says it's committing an extra $200 million to expedite the project.
