It has been a week since Tammy took shape over the Atlantic, and the storm continues to track across the basin on a path toward Bermuda.
Transcript
00:00 We continue to track Hurricane Tammy right now, some 500 miles to the
00:05 southeast of the Bermuda Islands. There it is moving to the north northeast.
00:10 It's gotten its act together overnight as it continues to strengthen a little
00:15 bit and I think there's still some room for some strengthening here as we go
00:19 through the afternoon. Big dip in the jet stream on the water vapor loop. Here it
00:23 is. So what's happened is the way the jet stream is configured, the winds actually
00:26 got a little lighter aloft and then instead of the wind shear or the winds
00:30 aloft being out of the west southwest, they actually turned in out of the south
00:34 almost moving with Tammy and that's a big difference. If the winds were out of
00:39 the west aloft that would tear Tammy apart but since the winds aloft are
00:43 moving with or parallel to Tammy, that wind shear and and the winds have let up
00:47 a little bit that's allowed for conditions to allow for some
00:50 strengthening. But it's not going to strengthen too much more, there can be a
00:53 little more as it moves northeast then there will be a curling back toward the
00:57 west northwest and by the time we get into Friday this will probably
01:00 transition into a more of a of a winter like storm. This dry air, look at all of
01:06 the dry air, eventually this dry air is going to be heading into this system and
01:11 once it does that should weaken it a little bit here. But certainly this will
01:14 be a storm that will impact the Bermuda Islands as we get into Friday and
01:18 Saturday. Now these islands, I call the Bermuda Islands the fortress in the
01:22 Atlantic, I mean they're built to withstand certainly tropical storms and
01:27 most hurricanes as well. So this may cause a few problems here and there
01:30 across the islands but I don't think it'll cause that many big deal or big
01:34 problems here. Wind gusts 40 to 60 miles per hour, 1 to 2 inches of rain. Alright
01:39 really quickly here, we are still in the hurricane season, you still have to keep
01:44 an eye out on things. Late October it's still, although the chances of having a
01:48 named storm and a hurricane and especially a landfall along the United
01:52 States continues to decrease with each passing day. Let's keep an eye on these
01:57 areas as we head toward the next couple of weeks. Northwest Caribbean, eastern
02:02 Gulf of Mexico and southwest Atlantic. And there is an area that needs to be
02:07 watched near the Bahamas Sunday into Monday, a little area of low pressure.
02:11 That even if something forms I think it would be whisked out to sea by the
02:15 middle part of the week. But that's an area to watch as we head toward again
02:19 Sunday and early next week.
