A dangerous atmospheric river is bringing round after round of rain into the Pacific Northwest, and it's all part of the same storm system that caused destruction in Hawaii.
Transcript
00:00We could see major flooding in parts of Washington and British Columbia through Friday,
00:04all because of heavy rain from an atmospheric river, and more specifically, a Pineapple Express
00:08moving in wave after wave, raising concerns for rivers, streets, and low-lying areas.
00:12Now, most spots could pick up 1 to 4 inches of rain.
00:15Mountain areas could see 4 to 8 inches, with locally higher totals, too.
00:18That's enough to quickly flood roads and overwhelm drainage in cities.
00:22Small streams may surge rapidly, while larger rivers could rise more slowly but stay elevated longer,
00:26with some reaching moderate to major flood levels, including the Snohomish River at Snohomish.
00:31That's where there was major flooding in early December.
00:33Now, this is actually part of the same storm system that caused dangerous flooding in Hawaii,
00:37where intense rain led to destructive runoff.
00:39Plus, warmer air in the northwest is also melting mountain snow, adding even more water into rivers.
00:44So if you live in western Washington or southwest British Columbia,
00:48stay alert and have multiple ways to receive watches and warnings related to flooding.
