00:00 Yeah, I'm sorry Billy, I must have forgot.
00:02 I've got an appointment with Planet Earth.
00:04 Nice to meet you, ma'am.
00:07 Farewell, John. Stop by anytime.
00:10 Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today,
00:12 we're saddling up and setting out to find the ten biggest mysteries in the Red Dead Redemption series.
00:18 For this list, we'll be looking at some of the most bizarre and unexplained mysteries and locations
00:24 that leave more questions than answers in Rockstar's Western open-world epics.
00:29 What's your favorite unsolved mystery in the Red Dead series?
00:33 Follow the clues and let us know down in the comments.

00:42 The Blackwater Massacre - Red Dead Redemption 2
00:48 I ain't had time to ask you.
00:50 What really went down back there on that boat?
00:55 We missed you. That's what happened.
00:58 The inciting incident that sent the Vanderland gang on the run,
01:02 very few concrete details are known about the Blackwater Massacre.
01:06 Much of the overarching mystery is due to the player character Arthur Morgan not being present during the heist,
01:12 but also the rest of the gang's resistance to discuss what actually happened.
01:17 While it seemed like a straightforward job, it also seemed just a bit too easy,
01:23 and could have easily been a setup by the Pinkertons in an attempt to capture the Vanderland gang.
01:29 Along with this theory is that Micah was working with the Pinkertons before even joining the gang
01:34 and pushed Dutch into the job in order to save himself through a deal made with the agency.
01:39 However, when things went south, especially after Dutch shot an innocent woman,
01:44 Micah had to maintain his cover until the Pinkertons could regroup.
01:49 $5,000 for your head alone.
01:53 $5,000? For me? Can I turn myself in?
01:59 Landon Ricketts, Red Dead Redemption.
02:02 Who are you?
02:04 Landon Ricketts. Not a name that means much anymore.
02:09 It means a little. You were famous when I was a boy.
02:13 The Red Dead Redemption series is heavily influenced by Sergio Leone's The Man With No Name trilogy,
02:19 so much so that Rockstar initially wanted the man himself, Clint Eastwood, to voice John Marston.
02:25 Another prominent figure of the Wild West in the series is Landon Ricketts,
02:29 who easily could be a stand-in for Sam Elliott.
02:33 Landon Ricketts epitomizes the Wild West and is a central figure in John's adventures
02:38 and is a well-known gunslinger from John's childhood.
02:42 However, despite being such a man of legend, very little is known about Landon,
02:47 with much of John's memories being fuzzy from that time and Landon's past being mostly hearsay.
02:53 Landon clearly has knowledge of the Vanderland gang John used to run with,
02:57 but we never know if his connection runs any deeper than simply word of mouth
03:02 or what exactly led to Landon's position as one of the West's most renowned gunslingers.
03:07 They left me, and I left them.
03:11 Well, that's how it goes.
03:14 The Gunsmith's Son - Red Dead Redemption 2
03:22 Why are you dressed up like that?
03:25 I've seen some sick diversions in my time.
03:29 This one might take the prize.
03:31 A mystery so big, it seems the entire town is somehow involved.
03:36 In the small town of Rhodes, Arthur will routinely visit the unassuming gunsmith
03:41 until one day a young man trapped in the gunsmith's basement pleads for help.
03:46 Upon freeing the young man, the gunsmith Jasper will tell Arthur how he lost his son in an accidental drowning
03:53 and kidnapped the young man because he resembled his lost boy.
03:57 However, the mystery doesn't end there as players listening to NPC conversations
04:02 can hear them mention the accident and the guilt that hangs over the town because of it.
04:08 Whether this means the course of events Jasper described are false
04:12 or if the townsfolk are somehow complicit in the boy's death remains unknown.
04:17 Still, there are others who believe Jasper's son Sammy simply ran away
04:21 and Jasper, unable to cope in his diminished state, created a tragedy so real he wholly believes it to be true.
04:29 Listen, I'm real sorry for what happened. I was lost in my own head. It was very wrong. I see that now.
04:36 Hey, we've all kidnapped someone.
04:39 We have?
04:40 No, of course not.
04:42 Tumbleweed, Red Dead Redemption
04:45 While ghost towns and abandoned settlements are nothing new in the Red Dead series,
04:50 what makes Tumbleweed special is it might actually be a ghost town.
04:54 While the in-game lore describes the downfall of Tumbleweed after the railroad bypassed the town in favor of Armadillo,
05:01 there are numerous newspaper clippings that can be discovered describing unnatural occurrences within the town.
05:07 Players have claimed to see ghostly figures in some of the windows
05:10 as well as hearing footsteps while exploring some of the buildings.
05:14 A cluster of bats even take flight from the town at random intervals.
05:18 All of this coincides with an inscription on the altar in the church,
05:22 "The devil has gotten into that beast that has led many to believe the church and the town are haunted by the devil himself."
05:30 The Three Meteorites, Red Dead Redemption 2
05:34 The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is vast and mysterious,
05:43 and players are always uncovering new discoveries with no clear answers.
05:48 One such mystery is the three meteorites.
05:52 The first piece of meteorite players are likely to discover is in a remote cabin
05:56 where the space rock crashed through the roof and killed everyone inside.
06:00 The second and much larger of the two is located in a crater outside Roanoke.
06:05 Once players collect these pieces of the rock, the game tells them they are carrying two of three.
06:11 However, to date, no one has been able to find the third piece of meteorite.
06:16 Carrying the two pieces players have discovered increases Arthur's resistance to heat by 10%,
06:22 but with the third piece still missing,
06:24 it's unknown what other kind of stat boost the complete set would grant our aging outlaw.
06:30 The Vampire of Saint Denis, Red Dead Redemption 2
06:40 "Stay back, for your own sake. I walk with the undead."
06:46 "What, you're a vampire?"
06:51 There's no shortage of terrifying creatures, many of them just other settlers,
06:55 in the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.
06:58 One of these, however, is a bit more supernatural than the rest.
07:02 While exploring Saint Denis, Arthur will discover five pieces of graffiti
07:07 that will eventually lead him to the Dark Lord himself, drinking from his last victim.
07:12 Clearly modeled after Count Orlok from Nosferatu, the vampire will warn Arthur to stay back,
07:18 and if Arthur persists, the vampire will strike him with a blade, resulting in instant death.
07:24 However, if Arthur is able to counter the vampire, he can either kill or capture the undead bloodsucker,
07:31 and if he brings the vampire to the tiny church, he will die immediately,
07:35 lending credence to his claims of being a real vampire.
07:39 "I'll suck you dry."
07:41 The Mystery Site, Red Dead Redemption
07:48 The Wild West is by definition wild due to much of it being unexplored and mysterious
07:54 at the time settlers were headed out west.
07:57 Due to the nature of this, Rockstar seemingly included mysteries
08:01 that were never meant to be solved in John's quest for redemption.
08:05 Such is the case with what fans have dubbed the Mystery Site,
08:08 in which players can find a deerskin with crude drawings on it,
08:12 held down by three rocks, also with runes inscribed on them near Repentance Rock.
08:18 John can't interact with the site, and there are no quests or mentions of the site
08:23 or what it represents anywhere in the game.
08:26 Most likely at one point it was tied to a mission or quest within the game that was later scrapped,
08:31 but with no way to confirm any of these theories, the Mystery Site remains, well, a mystery.
08:37 The UFO Cult, Red Dead Redemption 2
08:40 As vast and unknown as the Wild West may seem, it's nothing compared to the endless expanse of space
08:53 and camping under the stars every night, many a cowboy is sure to have seen something they can't explain.
08:59 On the outskirts of New Hanover, Arthur will find a small abandoned community
09:04 and within a house, the remains of a group who seemingly took their own lives.
09:09 A quick search of the dilapidated house will reveal a note detailing how the group somehow believed
09:14 that they would be taken to a promised realm, and while it seems the cult was misled by their shaman,
09:20 if Arthur waits around until 2am, an enormous UFO will descend on the house, engulfed in an eerie green glow.
09:28 We may never fully know the true connection between the cult and the UFO,
09:32 but it would seem their beliefs weren't completely unfounded, just taken to the furthest extreme.
09:38 The Time Traveler, Red Dead Redemption 2
09:47 "Hey, can I ask you a strange question? I mean, it sounds ridiculous, but I'm on the level."
09:51 "I don't have a clue what you just said."
09:53 The Red Dead series is full of strange and enigmatic characters for John and Arthur to cross paths with,
09:59 but few are as out of place as Francis Sinclair.
10:03 His manner of dress and the phrases and the way he talks are unlike anyone else in the game,
10:08 and he sends Arthur or John on a quest to find rock carvings spread all around the map.
10:14 Upon collecting illustrations of said carvings,
10:17 returning to the cabin will find a woman holding a baby named Francis,
10:21 bearing the same birthmark as the man Arthur or John first encountered.
10:26 What's more, there are numerous mysterious drawings on the wall
10:29 with depictions of Francis emerging from a portal to all the locations of the carvings.
10:35 So, is Francis a time traveler whose abilities are tied to the carvings lest he be reincarnated,
10:41 and is he somehow tied to the Epsilon cult in GTA 5?
10:45 "I was looking for your husband."
10:47 "My husband? He's dead. He's been dead since just before Francis was born one year ago."
10:55 The Strange Man, Red Dead Redemption series.
10:59 "Hello, John. John Marston."
11:02 "Do I know you?"
11:06 "I hope so. I seem to know you."
11:09 "I'm pretty good at remembering faces. Are you?"
11:12 Anyone who has played the Red Dead Redemption series is undoubtedly familiar with the Strange Man.
11:19 In Red Dead Redemption, he knew intimate knowledge about John and his past deeds,
11:23 and would routinely send him on quests that would test his morality.
11:27 In the end, the Strange Man appears once again, this time at John's homestead,
11:32 oddly enough, waiting on the hillside where John and Abigail would eventually be laid to rest.
11:38 However, this isn't the first time John has encountered the Strange Man, whether he knew it or not.
11:44 In a remote cabin, Arthur can find a painting in the process of being completed,
11:49 and upon returning as John, the visage of the Strange Man is complete,
11:54 and his seemingly ghostly apparition appears behind John in the mirror.
11:59 Many speculate this is death himself stalking John and determining his ultimate fate,
12:04 but none of this is ever even remotely confirmed.
12:08 "See you around, cowboy."
12:10 "Damn you!"
12:13 "Yes, many have."
