00:00Are we winning this game or losing? I cannot tell.
00:05If the bottle's being emptied, we are winning.
00:11Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at everything you should see in the first 10 hours of Assassin's
00:18Creed Shadows.
00:19Ichiro, you belonged to him.
00:23There's blood in your fur. Were you in a fight?
00:27Show me who hurt you. I'll follow.
00:31Before we begin, we publish new content all week long, so be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to
00:37get notified about our latest videos.
00:40Kujikiri.
00:41I could practice Kujikiri here. Look within.
00:45Most of the open world events in Shadows give you knowledge points, and you need a certain number of knowledge
00:50points to unlock new tiers of abilities in the Mastery Menu.
00:54One of the earliest activities you'll find that grants these points is Kujikiri.
00:58A Japanese tradition of making hand gestures to clear your mind.
01:06Once Naue can do Kujikiri, and early in the game, each session of Kujikiri unlocks a flashback to her life
01:14in Iga.
01:14You can see all of these flashbacks in the first handful of Kujikiri activities, and they add more depth to
01:20Noe's life, training, and the Shinobi culture she comes from.
01:24Iga does not know surrender.
01:32Paint the wildlife.
01:36I mean, it looks mostly like a tanuki.
01:41You look mostly like a tanuki.
01:45While Noe is recovering from her early in-game injuries, she meets Sorin and Junjiro, who have been taking care
01:51of her.
01:52Junjiro is initially afraid of Noe for reasons that will become clear later in the game, but which we won't
01:58spoil here.
01:59However, Sorin teaches him to paint so that he can work through his emotions.
02:03He then passes this knowledge onto Noe, encouraging her to paint a tanuki that lives in the temple.
02:08Throughout the game, Noe can then find and paint more wildlife scenes, unlocking new decorations for the homestead.
02:16Perfect spot.
02:18These also don't show up on the map, but appear organically as you explore Japan.
02:23And you have to be quiet as you approach so that you don't scare the animals away.
02:31Explore Kufoons.
02:38The last AC game developed by Ubisoft Quebec was Odyssey, and that game was full of caves.
02:46You probably spent almost as much time spelunking as you did clearing out forts.
02:50Shadows has far fewer of these caves, now named Kufoons, and behaving more like the tombs in Valhalla and Odyssey.
02:58What we mean by this is that they're small puzzle dungeons, with traversal puzzles to solve.
03:03Each one is designed for either Noe or Yasuke, since Noe is more agile, but Yasuke is the only one
03:10strong enough to pick up those explosive pots you're probably sick of seeing if you've played enough Valhalla.
03:22There aren't too many of these, though, and they reward you with some very worthwhile loot.
03:27Just remember to light the candles as you go so you don't get lost.
03:33Time to go.
03:37Cannon or Regular?
03:38They killed my father.
03:40The Onryo.
03:42The masked man from Katano.
03:45I should have known he wasn't just some mad ronin.
03:48As well as choosing your difficulty, Shadows gives you another interesting choice right at the beginning.
03:53Do you want to play the game in Regular Mode or Cannon Mode?
03:56Regular Mode is the RPG-ified version of the game Ubisoft has been championing since Odyssey added those contentious dialogue
04:04options.
04:06Lord Nobunaga, I do understand you.
04:11While Cannon Mode removes the dialogue options and lets the characters choose what to say themselves.
04:17This is a vital decision, though, because you can't change it back later on.
04:22Cannon Mode gives an overall more engaging story, but it also eliminates romance options.
04:28However, since a lot of people can take or leave Ubisoft's bland romances anyway, you may not miss them.
04:34Give the key back and I'll go.
04:36And take the dog with me.
04:38Ishiro's box is nowhere to be found.
04:40The key is useless.
04:41Yo-kai.
04:42They want me to hunt them down.
04:44But every time there is no yo-kai.
04:47Then what are the people seeing?
04:49In Yamashiro, you can find this quest marker simply named the Yo-kai.
04:54When you arrive, you find a grumpy old man who's sick of everybody in Japan coming to him with their
04:59yo-kai troubles.
05:00When he never finds a real yo-kai to deal with in each of his investigations.
05:05He gives you these rumors, and then you too get to hunt the yo-kai throughout Japan.
05:09This isn't a case of Ubisoft pulling out some mythical boss fights, though,
05:14but humorous or fascinating side quests about people pretending to be yo-kai.
05:18One of the earliest ones you can encounter, with most of them being in higher level areas,
05:23involves men with melons on their heads fighting about which melon harvest will be the best.
05:39Unlock tools.
05:46Being far weaker in combat, Noe has to make use of various tools to stay hidden.
05:51She has far more hiding spots available than any other assassin before her,
05:56able to go prone and grasp of different lengths and crawl underneath buildings.
06:00Not to mention using the shadows for cover, but she has a range of tools as well.
06:05However, you've got to unlock these tools in the Mastery menu,
06:08and you should absolutely make it a priority.
06:11She has kunai to throw, but also smoke bombs,
06:15shinobi bells to distract enemies, and shurikens,
06:18all of which can be enhanced in the tool menu.
06:20Stealth encounters are far more dynamic with these extra gameplay options.
06:30Customize your gear.
06:37Longtime players will be pleased to hear that the transmog system from Odyssey is back,
06:42and it's here from the beginning.
06:44If you played Odyssey at launch, you'll remember that transmog was only added to the game later
06:49after players asked for it.
06:51This is a godsend because Odyssey's endless loot system is back, for better or worse.
06:56But, if you find a weapon or armor piece you like the look of,
07:00you can simply customize it in the inventory menu and give it a new visual look.
07:05As in Odyssey and Valhalla, you have to have already looted the item you want to make your gear look
07:10like,
07:10giving you another incentive to collect loot beyond the incremental stat buffs.
07:15The colorful robes and disregard for civility is exciting for young people.
07:21Build a Forge.
07:30The game asks you to do this very early on,
07:33but in case you're not interested in the homesteading and want to delay,
07:37you should really listen to what it's telling you to do
07:39and recruit the blacksmith to build the forge early.
07:42This is where you'll upgrade your weapons,
07:44if you're not happy to just wait for a better piece of loot to come along,
07:47as it inevitably will,
07:49and also add engravings to them, giving buffs and letting you inflict status ailments on enemies.
07:55There are many more ways to improve and customize your homestead,
07:58but you may not want to spend more time there than necessary,
08:01since mandatory RTGI means the whole area is locked to 30 FPS on consoles.
08:12Get a pet.
08:14Where are you taking me?
08:16Not into a trap, I hope.
08:18I'll have to trust you.
08:20If you pre-ordered the game,
08:21you'll have gotten the Throne to the Dogs quest,
08:24which lets you find a stray dog whose owner has recently died out in the world.
08:29It's a short quest,
08:30but once complete,
08:31it lets you adopt the dog and place him in your homestead.
08:34With me,
08:35at your new home.
08:38Good boy.
08:41There are many more opportunities for pets, though.
08:44All you have to do is go up to animals and pet them,
08:47and you'll unlock that breed as a pet to place around.
08:50Considering a lot of people love the pets in Valhalla,
08:53like Nale, the cat who joins your longboat crew,
08:55this is a fun addition.
08:57There are more animals to find in Shadows than in any other AC game,
09:01and you're free to simply enjoy nature rather than killing it all like in the Mythology Trilogy.
09:07You were protecting this the whole time.
09:22You play as him first in the prologue as a teaser for what's to come,
09:27but you won't be able to play as Yasuke again until he and Noe meet during a pivotal encounter with
09:32Oba Nobunaga that we won't spoil.
09:34From then on, Yasuke joins the newly renamed League of the Hidden Blade,
09:39and you can switch to him whenever you like, either during fast travel or from the inventory screen.
09:44You then get Yasuke's world activities, including a horse archery rail shooter minigame to get even more precious knowledge points.
09:52He plays more like Eivor or Cassandra as opposed to Noe,
09:56who's a more traditional assassin who's weaker in combat, like Basim in Mirage most recently.
10:01It's a lot of fun swapping between them to approach missions in different ways.
10:06Because there is only one way for a samurai to get ahead.
10:11Ahead.
10:15I did not say it was a good joke.
10:18Let us know in the comments what you've been enjoying about Assassin's Creed Shadows so far.
10:24I offer you the same choice.
10:47All the one way for a samurai to get ahead.
