00:00You're not getting rid of me that easy.
00:03You're protecting me.
00:05Now it's my turn.
00:06Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're looking at the most iconic characters that have helped define Capcom's long history.
00:14I had a feeling you'd say that.
00:19But before we dive into it, we publish new content all week long.
00:23So be sure to subscribe and ring the bell to get notified about our latest videos.
00:28Morrigan Ainsland
00:30Darkstalkers Series
00:38It may have been a long time since her own series got a release, but Darkstalkers is still an awesome
00:45fighting franchise.
00:46And Morrigan is, without a doubt, the most popular and well-known character from its roster, for good reason.
00:53Her obvious, sensual design aside, which has driven the imaginations of many gamers wild, she's also just really damn cool.
01:02She's succubus royalty that comes from an alternate demonic dimension, and she has a wicked moveset befitting of her status,
01:09like the ability to summon a swarm of bats to fight alongside her, or steal energy from an opponent with
01:15a kiss.
01:16It's no wonder that she's become a famous mainstay in other fighters, like the Marvel vs. Capcom series.
01:28The Marvel vs. Capcom series
01:40When Joe's girlfriend is kidnapped into the world of a movie, he jumps in after her and takes on the
01:46superheroic alter ego, Beautiful Joe.
01:49Imbued with cinematic powers that allow him to enter slow-mo, speed up the action, and zoom in for stronger
01:56attacks, Joe goes on an insane adventure that lets him show off his unique flair.
02:01Although his series was short-lived with only a handful of follow-ups, Beautiful Joe remains a wonderfully weird character
02:08of the mid-2000s.
02:09His distinct design and abilities are matched by his over-the-top charisma, and his willingness to throw himself into
02:16any dangerous situation made him an entertaining hero to embody.
02:20Honestly, we're still holding out hope for a future revival.
02:29Frank West, Dead Rising series
02:33Well, we're up to our necks in zombies. Yeah, I think I appreciate the situation just fine.
02:38There were many fans who were displeased with his characterization in Dead Rising 4, justifiably so, but that doesn't change
02:46the fact that, overall, Frank West is a lovable, if not flawed, protagonist.
02:51In the first game, he digs for his next big scoop as a photojournalist.
02:55Stumbling upon a zombie outbreak, he uses whatever weapons he can build out of objects around the shopping mall he's
03:01trapped in.
03:02What makes him so endearing is that he's an everyman, not some larger-than-life type of hero.
03:08He's determined to uncover the truth while helping other survivors, and despite the situations he's thrust into, he greets it
03:15all with a light-hearted disposition.
03:17He's definitely not the most professional or delicate journalist around, but that clearly ends up working in his favor.
03:24Oh yeah? Is that what you think?
03:27There's a hell of a lot more to it than that.

03:44Chun-Li
03:46Chun-Li quickly became one of gaming's leading ladies.
03:49As an expert in several types of Chinese martial arts, she has a strong sense of justice born from the
03:55murder of her father and her desire to protect innocence.
03:59Her impressively powerful legs have lent themselves to awesome, iconic attacks like her spinning bird kick and her lightning kicks,
04:08which we have all undoubtedly spammed at one time or another.
04:12More importantly, her iconicism at such a developmental time in gaming has inspired numerous other character designs across various releases.
04:20She's not just a skilled fighter among many.
04:23She's an influential creation for both the fighting game genre and for female players.

04:34Phoenix Wright
04:35Ace Attorney Series
04:45Being a series of visual novels, the Ace Attorney series lies outside Capcom's normal action-centric focus.
04:53However, it has retained a loyal fanbase over the years for several reasons.
04:58One of them is its strong-willed protagonist, Phoenix Wright.
05:01Debuting in 2001, Wright became popular for his unwavering hunt for the truth at whatever cost.
05:08And the franchise's following grew due to his ability to detect lies and those he questioned, and tendency to win
05:15cases that were, on the surface, lost causes.
05:18This has made him not only a fascinating protagonist to watch, but to play as.
05:23While the series has branched out to focus on different attorneys in several games, it is always at its best
05:29when Phoenix Wright is at the forefront.
05:32Ryu
05:32Street Fighter Series
05:41There are few characters in Capcom's history that are as visually recognizable as the mascot for Street Fighter, Ryu.
05:49He's been there since the beginning, debuting in the original game that acted as a stepping stone towards the golden
05:55age of arcade fighters.
05:57As the franchise has continued to evolve, fan love for him has only grown.
06:02Admiration also comes from him being one of the most pure good characters on the roster.
06:07Playing as him offers three of the most iconic attacks in video games.
06:11The fireball Hadouken, the powerful uppercut Shoryuken, and the hurricane kick, the Tatsumaki.
06:18Sure, other fighters practice those moves too, but none of them match Ryu's status as an emblem of both the
06:24genre and the franchise.
06:26You win!
06:33Jill Valentine, Resident Evil Series
06:36Jill, don't scare me.
06:39Speak for yourself, Barry.
06:42What are you doing here?
06:43The Resident Evil series has seen a lot of strong characters, but one we must absolutely shine a light on
06:50is Jill Valentine.
06:52Debuting in the 1996 original as one of two playable protagonists, Jill instantly became beloved.
06:58It wasn't just because we traveled with her through a horrifying scenario filled with nightmare creatures.
07:04Her ability to remain calm in such a predicament, no doubt stemming from her training with stars, was nothing short
07:10of admirable.
07:12She continued to earn our respect in Resident Evil 3, which raised the stakes stacked against her.
07:17Although she hasn't been seen in a mainline game for a while, and her appearance as a puppet to Wesker
07:23in RE5 was a shame, she's still a vital horror character.
07:27I would expect you to be happier to see us.
07:33Us.
07:35So slow to catch on.
07:42Dante, Devil May Cry Series
07:46You're right. I'm his son, Dante. Sweet dreams.
07:50When it comes to being cool, there are few, if any, Capcom characters that can reach the same heights as
07:57Dante from Devil May Cry.
07:59Half demon, half human, he spends his life hunting demonic forces and supernatural creatures.
08:06And it's a good thing he's so talented at his job, because he doesn't tend to take it seriously.
08:11Rather, he treats every encounter, large or small, with the utmost disrespect.
08:16He lobs insults and sarcastic quips at every creature who crosses his path,
08:21before quickly slicing them to pieces or blasting them apart with his custom dual pistols, Ebony and Ivory.
08:28His persona is endlessly enjoyable.
08:32So too is his unmatched style as he effortlessly pulls off excellent executions.
08:37I guess you were young once too.
08:41And as much as I'd love to hear that story, I think it's about time we...
08:45End at this.
08:54Mega Man. Mega Man Series.
09:00In his 1987 self-titled debut, Mega Man became a star for his simple but pleasing design,
09:07and his ability to gain awesome power-ups from the evil robots he defeated.
09:12And since it was such a hit, the Blue Bomber returned for numerous sequels where his abilities were expanded on.
09:18While every mainline game in the series more or less follows that same formula,
09:22Capcom has managed to keep it and its hero from getting stale.
09:27It doesn't hurt that, because Mega Man grew so popular,
09:30he received numerous spinoff franchises over the years that focused on different alternate forms
09:36with their own gameplay mechanics, stories, and goals.
09:39We've called a lot of these characters icons,
09:43and Mega Man likely personifies that word the most.
09:54Leon Kennedy. Resident Evil Series.
09:58Thanks.
09:59You can thank me later, when we're safe.
10:02It helps that Leon has starred in some of the most popular entries in the Resident Evil series,
10:07from both a game design perspective and an ability to deliver scares.
10:11But there's also no denying how engaging a protagonist he is.
10:17He debuted in the second game, alongside dual protagonist Claire Redfield,
10:21as a rookie cop immediately placed into an unwinnable situation,
10:25which made him easy to root for.
10:27In Resident Evil 4, he was given the task of rescuing the president's daughter from a vicious cult,
10:32and did so with unwavering bravery and just enough cheesy lines to make him feel more defined.
10:39It has been a joy to rediscover Leon through remakes of RE2 and RE4,
10:45and he remains one of the strongest characters in the series.
10:55Of course, with a company that's been around as long as Capcom,
10:59we had to leave a ton of characters off our list.
11:03If there are any characters you think deserve praise, share them with us in the comments,
11:07and be sure to let us know who your favorites are.
11:10And if you haven't already, be sure to subscribe to MojoPlays for more great gaming videos every day.
