00:00Johnny, remember the plan.
00:02Get the payload on the elevator. Arm it. Let gravity do its thing.
00:07Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at 10 facts about Cyberpunk 2077 that you may not
00:14have known about.
00:21Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo Plays and ring
00:27the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:30Across the Pondsmith.
00:32The important part in Cyberpunk is just that. It's not the technology, it's the feel.
00:37It's getting that dark, gritty, rain-wet street feeling, but at the same time getting that rock and roll lost
00:45and desperate and dangerous quality.
00:48In case you weren't aware, Cyberpunk's creator, Mike Pondsmith, can be found within Cyberpunk 2077.
00:54All you need to do is listen to Moro Rock Radio to hear his own ramblings as his in-game
01:00character, Maximum Mike.
01:02However, Pondsmith's involvement goes beyond a simple, possibly missable cameo.
01:07Unlike the creator of The Witcher, Pondsmith was much more involved with the development of Cyberpunk 2077 than Andrzej Sapkowski.
01:14Not only was he a consultant for lore, story, writing, and so on, Pondsmith even assisted in the game's general
01:22design, most likely in the RPG mechanics and or stats.
01:262077 is about the cyberpunk you thought you knew scaled up. Bigger, fatter, stranger.
01:33CD Projekt Red found great value in Pondsmith's knowledge of game design, thanks to his experience working on games such
01:40as The Matrix Online and Mech Commander 2 from when he worked at Microsoft.
01:44Had this relationship not stemmed from CD Projekt sending Pondsmith a copy of The Witcher 2, who knows where Cyberpunk
01:51or CD Projekt would be today.
01:53And I can't wait to play it, and I'm hoping you guys will want to play it as much as
01:57I want to play it, because it's going to be a hell of a ride.
02:01Preheating Troubles
02:02Every new day here means a hundred new arrivals, but only half these gongs will survive a year, and that's
02:10if it's a good one.
02:11One thing most may not know about Cyberpunk's development history is that it spent nearly a decade in development, and
02:18we don't mean actively making assets and building the game itself development.
02:22Talks between CD Projekt and Mike Pondsmith go back to 2012, but it wasn't exactly for legal procedures, licensing, and
02:30what have you,
02:31that kept Cyberpunk in the oven for so long.
02:33At one point, Cyberpunk 2077 was being built on Red Engine 3, which, as one might expect,
02:40was not exactly built for the things that CD Projekt wanted to do with Cyberpunk, such as the mandatory first
02:46-person camera.
02:47And so, development had come to a crawl for a bit, as CD Projekt Red took time to finish The
02:52Witcher 3 Wild Hunt,
02:53while also building the improved Red Engine 4.
02:56Of course, we all saw the problems that occurred when the game launched in 2020.
03:01Between the backlash at launch and the constant struggles during development,
03:05Cyberpunk 2077 would be the last game to be ever made under Red Engine,
03:09as well as the only game ever made on Red Engine 4.
03:20How to raise a city
03:29It's one thing to describe a location like Night City in words, and another to draw it on paper.
03:34It's an entirely different story when you're trying to make this fictional city seem like it could actually exist,
03:41and do so with various areas modeled after different kinds of architecture.
03:45One officer down, so I guess you're all screwed, because the NCPD will not let that go.
03:52Indeed, CD Projekt Red found this feat to be so daunting to reach,
03:56that the studio brought in professional city planners to help create the layout for roads, buildings, sidewalks, traffic intersections, etc.
04:04Admittedly, it was more for consultation purposes, but still a tremendous accomplishment in making something fictional seem so real.
04:12This has been your man, Stan! Join me for another day in our city of dreams!
04:19Life Paths
04:21NCPD, drop your weapons!
04:25Don't move!
04:26As most players will recall, Cyberpunk 2077 gives you three life paths to choose from.
04:32Nomad, Corpo, and Street Kid.
04:35All three are truly exceptional intros, but at one point, there were plans to include more.
04:40The tabletop RPG Cyberpunk didn't have fixed life paths,
04:44but it still offered various avenues to build your character's background, clothing style, and more.
04:50You, NC's Legends, know where you'll find most of them?
04:56The Graveyard!
04:57Though we aren't sure how extensive this part of character creation would have gone with the game,
05:02CD Projekt saw the positive reception the original three life paths received during placed testing and preview events.
05:09And so, the team just stopped at those three.
05:12Perhaps the next Cyberpunk video game will include new life paths to go with the old ones,
05:16or just replace the three entirely.
05:19Matters not where you're from!
05:21Matters not where you start!
05:23What matters here is the walk you walk!
05:28In Night City!
05:30Lip Syncing
05:31Everyone in this city lives in their own goddamn bubble.
05:35And either you fly high,
05:38or sink into quicksand.
05:39During its development, Cyberpunk 2077 was translated across 19 different languages.
05:46However, only 11 of them received their own dubs.
05:49But that's not the neat part about Cyberpunk's lip syncing.
05:52CD Projekt hired an AI company called Jolly Research Inc.
05:57to help with lip syncing character models across different languages.
06:01Alright.
06:02Evelyn's a doll.
06:03Used to work at Clouds.
06:06Sig Case on my table's got the address.
06:08Yes. Take it.
06:09And once you find Evelyn, give it to her.
06:11You've seen some of Jolly's technology before, and after Cyberpunk 2.
06:16On their website, Jolly has revealed that they have worked with previous partners besides CD Projekt,
06:22two of their partners being Xbox, and Korean game developer ShiftUp.
06:26So you have seen their technology in action in Stellar Blade,
06:30and some of Xbox's first-party games, too.
06:33Taki!
06:34Aeth, are you alright?
06:38This place is dangerous.
06:40Take my hand.
06:42Recycling Quests
06:52If the number of side missions overwhelmed you,
06:55then you might be shocked to learn that not all of the side missions were planned to be in Cyberpunk
07:002077.
07:01In fact, many of them were originally planned to be a part of the main story itself,
07:06but in an effort to maintain the focus of the campaign,
07:09many segments of the main story were chopped off and delegated into simple one-off side missions.
07:14This sort of thing happens all the time in video game development,
07:17so it's not that surprising on the surface.
07:19The only mystery now is,
07:21which ones were supposed to be in the main story?
07:23Not the crotch guy, right?
07:25Selected mode, stone-cold killer.
07:28Happy slaughtering.
07:30A rose by any other name.
07:32I think I might have caught something
07:35when I jacked into that Corpo's biomon.
07:38I don't know, a neurovirus, or...
07:41I need to see Vic.
07:42Let him tell me what's got my head reeling and my stomach churning.
07:45Of the two Vs you can play as,
07:47the general consensus among players is that
07:50Femme V is the better choice on account of her voice actor's performance.
07:54Totally not because you get to romance Judy,
07:57but regardless,
07:58Femme V does have exceptionally delivered dialogue
08:01thanks to voice actor Cherami Lay.
08:03Oh, come on.
08:05Job was toxic from the start.
08:07Even Kabuki Under the Counter Magic can't get around an alarm like that.
08:12Should've known I'd have the PD on my ass.
08:14And you may have heard Lay's voice in some other notable games
08:17prior to playing Cyberpunk.
08:19She was Gage the Mecromancer in the Borderlands series,
08:23Rotty Tops in the Shantae games,
08:25and she voiced Makoto in Persona 5
08:27as well as the various Persona 5 spinoffs.
08:30Needless to say,
08:31Lay has quite the portfolio of video game voice acting.
08:35Words out the NCPD's gonna put Watson on lockdown.
08:38If I'm gonna sleep in my own bed tonight,
08:40we better put in fifth.
08:42Leave it to me, chica.
08:43I'm driving.
08:44Money for nothing.
08:46Test of a person's true value.
08:49Death.
08:51Facing.
08:52Staring it down.
08:53Despite the years of crying out against pre-orders
08:57and fighting hype in case games turn out horribly,
09:00Cyberpunk 2077 cast some sort of spell on gamers
09:04that made the cash flow in before the game was even finished.
09:08In the months leading up to launch,
09:10Cyberpunk managed to soar to the very top of the sales charts
09:13across various digital storefronts.
09:15CD Projekt themselves came out
09:17and revealed that pre-orders alone allowed them to recoup production
09:21and marketing costs.
09:22Basically, every sale afterwards was pure profit.
09:26In less than a month after launch,
09:28Cyberpunk 2077 brought in a revenue of more than $600 million.
09:33Although, sales took a sharper decline than anticipated
09:37once the game launched.
09:38And it got worse once platform holders got involved.
09:42A go-down for all times in a blaze of glory.
09:52A D-listed anomaly.
09:55At CD Projekt Red,
09:57we dedicate ourselves to telling immersive stories.
10:00Yet with every new project,
10:02we set out to make our games bigger,
10:04more complex,
10:05deeply engaging.
10:07Many will remember the disastrous launch
10:10Cyberpunk 2077 faced
10:11before quickly remarking how amazing the game is today.
10:15However, one facet of the launch
10:17some seem to forget
10:18is how Sony got involved in the entire mess.
10:23The outrage was so massive
10:26that Sony stepped in,
10:28delisted Cyberpunk from PlayStation Store,
10:30and began fulfilling refund requests
10:32without hesitation.
10:34Meanwhile,
10:34Microsoft and Valve posted explicit warnings
10:38on Xbox and Steam, respectively,
10:40informing users that Cyberpunk was in a buggy
10:43and unstable condition.
10:45Cyberpunk 2077 did not return to PlayStation Store
10:48until June 2021,
10:50six whole months after launch.
10:53Immerse yourself in Cyberpunk 2077.
10:56And lastly,
10:58the real samurai.
10:59It's interesting to try to, like,
11:02catch a language that's his,
11:04and try to catch a language that's, like,
11:06part of this game.
11:07Unless you really dug into the litany
11:09of original songs made just for cyberpunk,
11:12you might be unaware that the band Samurai
11:15does indeed exist.
11:16They just aren't known under the same name
11:19as their in-game sounds.
11:20During development,
11:22CD Projekt recruited the Swedish punk rock band
11:24known as Refused.
11:26We came out of the punk rock scene
11:27of Northern Sweden.
11:29He's, like,
11:30the future version of us.
11:34Formed in 1991,
11:36Refused has broken up and reunited twice
11:38in their decades-long career,
11:40having been fairly active now
11:42since 2014 at the time of this video.
11:44Not only that,
11:45but the band has served as inspiration
11:47for a variety of bigger bands
11:49you might be more familiar with,
11:50such as Linkin Park,
11:52Blink-182,
11:53and AFI.
11:54In other words,
11:55you've been jamming out to the sounds
11:56of what many consider to be
11:58the most influential punk rock band of all time.
12:01Trying to get this right,
12:03trying to get it to sound like,
12:04you know,
12:05like Samurai would sound,
12:06you know,
12:06so it's quite interesting.
12:08It's a very different way of making music, actually.
12:12Is there another interesting tidbit
12:14about cyberpunk
12:14most folks don't know about
12:16that you might know?
12:17Let us know down in the comments,
