Assistant Commissioner Police in charge of Tobago Collis Hazel says it is critical to have an increase in the complement of Licensing officers in Tobago, as the present number is woefully inadequate.

ACP Hazel made the revelation on Wednesday during a meeting with the top brass of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and a team of Licensing officers led by Transport Commissioner Clive Clarke in Scarborough. More in this Elizabeth Williams report.
Transcript
00:00 Until the powers see fit, we can have some more licensing officers for Tobago because
00:07 I do sympathize with the quote that these officers, few officers, are doing it in Tobago.
00:26 Licensing officers are once again on the streets of Tobago for road traffic exercises,
00:32 similar to what they conducted in April this year.
00:35 But this time around, officers will hold consultations with stakeholders on Thursday at 4pm at the
00:43 Scarborough Library.
00:45 ACP Hazel said the education of the public remains key.
00:56 Meanwhile, Transport Commissioner Clive Clark, during the meeting on Wednesday, spoke to
01:26 the issue of duplicate permits in the system.
01:30 When we see duplicates, the first step we take is to interview the person.
01:39 We have intercepted over 20 persons who came and told us after we interviewed them, "That
01:48 is not a person."
01:49 They told us, "I paid for this.
01:51 This is how it came to me."
01:53 Therefore, we have to treat them that.
01:55 Back in April, Chief Secretary Farley Acosta complained of licensing officers terrorizing
02:01 citizens in Tobago by the issuing of tickets during road traffic exercises.
02:07 There was also a situation where the Chief Secretary's wife was driving without her driver's
02:12 license and the Chief Secretary had to intervene as there was a verbal disagreement with officials
02:19 during the spot check and the Chief Secretary's personal security.
