00:00I'm going to play the Jason Lloyd clip again.
00:02And Jason was on with the Morning Boys today,
00:04and he's talked about whether he thinks the Browns are a playoff team.
00:09I mean, they're good enough to be 3-1.
00:11Am I picking them to make the playoffs?
00:13No, I'm still not picking them to make.
00:14I still don't think they're a playoff team.
00:16There's some course correction ahead.
00:18But, you know, I was as hard on Deshaun as anybody.
00:20He's played well enough for them to be 3-1.
00:22He's made enough plays in fourth-quarter moments to win these games,
00:26and he gets all the credit for that.
00:27So I'm not going to disparage that.
00:29And at the same time, I don't think it was a playoff team.
00:31Yeah, here's the thing.
00:33I think Jason was put in a bad situation with that.
00:37I don't think it's fair to be asking anyone here to state for the record,
00:41oh, hey, do you think they're a playoff team?
00:43That's insane.
00:44I understand that the playoff odds have changed because they started 3-1.
00:47I do understand that.
00:49But, I mean, four games ago, the people asking the question about the playoffs
00:54were the people saying, I should say Ken and Anthony.
00:56I'm not trying to, like, attack them.
00:58They're the same people saying it was going to be a 4-5 win team.
01:01So I just don't understand how anyone could say with conviction that you're thinking
01:06about the playoffs right now.
01:07I think that is the textbook definition of putting the cart before the horse,
01:11and I think it puts the Browns in an awful situation.
01:14I think the worst thing we can do right now is rush to judgment, rush to expectations.
01:18Like, the path is there for them to continue a great start of the season this weekend.
01:23The path might be there to even start 5-1.
01:27Hell, you look at the next four or five games after, there's plenty of opportunity here
01:32to build up a real playoff base.
01:35There is no possible way, though, that any media member at 3-1 can say,
01:42playoff expectations.
01:43That is over course correcting our expectations from four weeks ago, and I get it.
01:50We all want it to be true.
01:51We do.
01:52You know why?
01:53Shocker.
01:54It's a lot more fun to do this job and to be Browns fans when the team goes to the
02:00playoffs,
02:00or at least, hell, when they're 8-9 or 9-8.
02:03But you can't possibly.
02:05Stop saying, please, Kenny, buddy, stop saying playoffs.
02:09Please, please, please just don't, because what happens is once you normalize saying
02:13that the playoffs are where you're thinking about, the expectations get out of hand.
02:18And then, if something even goes, not, guys, if they end up being 8-9, people are going
02:24to act like that's a freaking disappointment when Vegas has them at a 5-1-1 win team and
02:28half the station had them at below the 5-1-1 mark.
02:32Well, I mean, again, that's why there's, it's all going to need context, right?
02:368-9 is not an impressive season for a lot of NFL teams, but it's impressive for where
02:40this team was expected to be and where this team opened the season off as far as where
02:44we thought they could be.
02:45So, I don't know.
02:46It's tough.
02:47I always feel like we want more from this team and we're constantly moving the goalposts
02:52with this team.
02:53So, it's going to be hard.
02:54It's going to be hard to sit back and say, I'm not thinking about the playoffs if they
02:57move to 4-1.
02:58I'm not thinking about the playoffs if they move to 5-1.
03:00I don't know what the right answer is for when you can actually flip the switch and be like,
03:04all right, now we're talking playoffs.
03:06I don't know.
03:06But I agree with you.
03:073-1 doesn't seem like that's the right call.
03:09Yeah.
03:10And listen, I understand.
03:11So, you can walk me through because you actually, I get the BetOnline emails.
03:18I just don't get the Browns ones, apparently.
03:21Our guy said.
03:22I had this yesterday.
03:23I don't have this pulled up right now.
03:24I get the NHL ones.
03:25I get the MLB ones.
03:27Yeah.
03:27I get all of them but the Browns ones.
03:31That's tough for you.
03:32By the way, we are going to go out to the Wiseheart right.
03:34We make it right.
03:35Call Kyle Wright Hotline.
03:36We'll put a pin on that BetOnline email because Ken Carman has responded to the call here.
03:41Hello, Ken.
03:42One, I asked him what he thought.
03:44That ain't a big deal to ask him if he thought they were a playoff team.
03:47I didn't realize I broke some sort of weird protocol with Jason Lloyd to ask him if he thought
03:52they were a playoff team, which he gave his opinion.
03:55Two, I didn't attack him for giving that opinion of saying they're not still a playoff team,
03:59nor did any other Browns fans.
04:01That's the third thing.
04:02Four, it's unfair to the Browns.
04:04What, they're not trying to make the playoffs at 3-1?
04:06We're on three.
04:07They're not trying to make the playoffs at 3-1?
04:09Well, one.
04:10Are we going to be baby?
04:11We're really going to pussyfoot around this and be babies that much, Nick?
04:15Are we really?
04:16Yes.
04:16I mean, they're grown men.
04:17They're a football team.
04:18Ken, for the love of God.
04:19They're grown men.
04:19Ken, you thought they were going to be a five-win team.
04:21I know you want your credit for 8-9, even though you said they were going to lose every game
04:25with Sean Watson.
04:25I'm taking that credit and I'm taking that ass, Ken.
04:28Okay.
04:28I realize that came out wrong.
04:30I mean, you're wrong, but that's okay.
04:31That's all right.
04:32Ken, you said they were going to be a five-win team, and four weeks in, you're saying they're
04:36a playoff team?
04:37Is that not the world's fastest flip-flop?
04:39I'm sorry.
04:40I'm sorry.
04:40Did I say that they were a playoff team?
04:42We did 7-in-heaven.
04:44I asked if they were a playoff team.
04:46Can they be a playoff team?
04:48I didn't say they were going to be a playoff team.
04:50I thought you worked with the Slippery Wizard.
04:53I didn't know you were the Slippery Wizard.
04:55I can't believe I'm going to hurt Browns fans' feelings if they only win eight or nine
04:59games.
04:59I just asked it.
05:00Come on.
05:00Grow up.
05:01I didn't say it.
05:02I just asked it.
05:03Okay, Lima.
05:04Be a grown man.
05:05Be a grown man talking about grown men.
05:07Have a great show.
05:08Thank you, too.
05:09Bye, Ken.
05:13So where do you want to go from there?
05:14Yeah.
05:15Oh, yeah.
05:15That's where I insert myself.
05:17That sounded serious.
05:18It would have been nice to see you insert yourself somewhere in there.
05:20That wasn't my fight.
05:22Why would I insert myself in that?
05:23I sat back.
05:24By the way, my point was, he said three points, but he said one, two, and four.
05:29Do you agree with his points at all, or do you disagree with his points?
05:32Which points?
05:33One, two, or four?
05:34I think he's saying he did.
05:35I don't know.
05:35I think he thought it was fine to ask about the playoffs.
05:37You clearly didn't disagree with that.
05:39That's asinine.
05:40Asking anybody about the playoffs at three and one.
05:43No, that's just silly.
05:45Two, I didn't accuse anyone of turning on Jason.
05:48I do think he put him in an unfair position, because the answer should be, we shouldn't
05:52be talking about playoffs yet.
05:53Like, the Browns have to show you more.
05:57And so once you put someone in the position of saying, hey, do you think they're a playoff
06:00team?
06:01Well, no, I don't.
06:03Yes, Jason probably did get some real crap from Browns fans for saying that.
06:07That's why he was like, well, don't shoot the messenger, because he knew they were going
06:11to shoot the messenger.
06:12What was four again?
06:13I forgot about four.
06:13No, I don't know.
06:14I just wanted to see where you guys were going with that.
06:17I wish you would have stayed on longer.
06:19I know.
06:19It's really kind of the sad part about it.
06:21I think he wanted to drop the mic.
06:22Oh, that was a drop the mic thing.
06:23I think so.
06:24I think so.
06:24All right.
06:25But yeah.
06:26All right.
06:27The thing that I wanted to talk to him about was his asinine take that the Jets game is more
06:32important than the Ravens game.
06:34That is just silly.
06:35Well, I wanted to see you guys get into why you can't take a victory lap on eight and
06:39nine.
06:39I mean, I thought that we're going to do that in 10 minutes.
06:42We're going to get all into that.
06:43And it's like, I felt like it was setting up for an elongated call, but then it just
06:47didn't happen that way.
06:48That's all right.
06:49Ken's got to do the Carmen Terries, and he's the coach.
06:52He's got things he's got to do.
06:54So the Browns went from 500 to 1 to 200 to 1 for the Super Bowl.
06:57Mm-hmm.
06:58And they passed the Steelers for third in the AFC North odds, by the way, as well.
07:02So that was the other development on that.
07:03Four teams in the AFC North.
07:05They passed them.
07:05We're not in last.
07:0780 to 1 to win the AFC, and then divisionally 12 to 1.
07:11So this was more, and one of the things I actually wanted to respond to Ken with before he hung
07:17up and, you know, threw a little hissy fit there.
07:20I'm kidding.
07:21That, I should, I'm so sarcastic, it doesn't always, I was trying to implore you in a good
07:26way.
07:26However, we're not at should we ask questions about playoffs yet.
07:31That's not.
07:31That's laughably early.
07:34You win this week, I'll understand it a little bit more.
07:37Yeah, I mean, you win this week, and it moves to 82% of the teams in the last 10
07:41years that
07:41start 4-1 have made the pro season.
07:43I think we, talk to me after the Baltimore game.
07:46Because I think there's an element of, even if you win this weekend, the rebuttal should
07:51be, well, it is the Jets.
07:53So that's two different conversations to me, though.
07:55Will they make the playoffs, or are they actually worthy of being a playoff team and being competitive?
08:00I think those are two different questions, right?
08:02You can stumble into making the playoffs.
08:05How many bad teams each year do we see make the playoffs?
08:07The 7th seed, 6th seed are usually pretty awful teams with all sorts of major flaws.
08:12I think the difference in the conversation is, are you a playoff team, or are you a competitive
08:16playoff team, or a team that can at least try to win a playoff game?
08:19And I think that's maybe where you have to wait for the Ravens game.
08:21And one of the reasons why I don't want to normalize talking about the playoffs when they're
08:243-1 and 4 weeks ago, half the people listening right now thought they were tanking, is there
08:31will be a point.
08:31It's not necessarily about the players.
08:33The players can handle this.
08:34It's about how nasty things get when we set, when we move the goalposts this early, set
08:39unfair expectations, and then we end up savagely fighting each other for six months about what
08:46it means and why it didn't happen.
08:48That's where it's like, it will suck the fun out of what should still be.
08:52If they're competitive this year, if all they do is hit 8-9, guys, that is a success compared
08:58to what people thought of them, where we thought they were going, and you can build a bridge
09:03to being a consistent playoff team from there just the same way you can if you're 10-7 this
09:07year.
09:08But the second you rubber stamp it's a playoff team, you put playoff expectations on it,
09:13and then everybody gets bitchy the first sign, that first bit of evidence that it's not.
09:20Whatever happened to just enjoying a 3-1 start and saying there are big questions that will
09:25come, it's far too early to say it.
09:27Okay, but I just feel like asking someone if it's a playoff game might just be the more
09:31creative way of trying to ask them whether or not they think the Browns are actually good.
09:34I would say it's lacking the balls to say you think it's a playoff team because you're
09:38afraid of that take coming back and boomerang it back on you.
09:42Oh, I don't know.
09:43I looked at it like, are you trying to find out if the Browns are good or not?
09:46And I feel like you try to tell someone that 8-9 is good, and most people across the NFL
09:51look at that and they laugh at that.
09:528-9 is not good.
09:53It's part of the arguments we had all summer long.
09:56It was like, you want to say 8-9, that's fine, but 8-9 is not anything to brag about.
10:00Remember the convo we had with Joe Thomas?
10:02That's legitimately how that unfolded was me being like, the whole league thinks 8-9 is below
10:07500 and stinks.
10:09You can't think it's good.
10:10And so I think just trying to figure out where that is, because you can tell 8-9 and talk
10:14about it being good, but ultimately, I think people will get making the playoffs as whether
10:18or not you're a good playoff team or not.
10:19So I think it's just a creative or different way of asking a question we've been asking
10:23for 24 hours now.
10:24216-474-0092.
10:27Are you already thinking about the playoffs for the Browns?
10:31I think the earliest I'm going to seriously entertain that question is after the Ravens game.
10:36And that doesn't mean they just have to win the next two games, by the way.
10:39Very similar to the way that I think the Raiders were legitimized losing the first game of the
10:45season to the Chiefs in the way they lost it, which is a very competitive game.
10:50And they looked really, really good despite the loss.
10:52Like, you can go 4-2 to start the season, and I still might be more apt to say, just
11:00because
11:00six games is a much better sample size for this conversation.
11:03And the Ravens are a better team to be able to go ahead and say, yep, you can pass that
11:09test more often than not.
11:11You guys sounded very heated there, though.
11:13I know.
11:13I don't know why.
11:14Never got to jokes.
11:14Never got to any part of it.
11:15I was like, oh my gosh.
11:17Is there...
11:17Well...
11:18That sounded like actual heated.
11:19This is fair.
11:20Keith would jam the hell out of Ken if Ken didn't come in firing.
11:26Because if I...
11:27Yeah, but usually at the end of the stuff, you get to a compromise, though.
11:30At the end of it, or even if you disagree, you're like, all right, disagree, but I love
11:33you anyway.
11:35So that ended like, jeez, no Christmas card for you this year.
11:38We're going to start.
11:38We're going to splice this in on the live feed, right?
11:41All right.
11:42All right.
11:42I can't.
11:43That's a good call, buddy.
11:44We love you, Ken.
11:45We love you, Ken.
11:46Face of the station.
11:47I love you.
11:48Face of the station.
11:49Okay, let's not go too far there, company man.
11:51Oh, my bad.
11:51And we're going to splice that one out as well.
11:5392.3, the Ken.
11:56It's a great company to work for.
11:57Yeah.
