00:00With the Bigs B there was a thing I thought it was gonna be like losing its
00:04tune all the time but it doesn't do that. I play with my thumb and my finger.
00:35Hello, I'm MT Jones and I'm promoting my new record, debut record, Joy, which is out now.
00:42I'm gonna be showing you my equipment and what I play on the road.
00:46This is a Fender Telecaster. I've had this for a couple of years now.
00:53I think it's a Mexican, it's a Ventura series, which is cool.
01:00It's got the Bigs B, which I quite like because I use it quite a bit in the live shows.
01:06It's an end of tune or something, especially when I was playing solo.
01:10It was a very good thing to play at the end of a song and just let everyone know that's
01:19the thing.
01:19But yeah, I love this guitar. It's great. Great guy, Stee Donington as well.
01:26He sorts out my guitar so he's done a bit of work to it, sorted out the action and things
01:32like that.
01:32Yes, we did change this pickup actually here and we've changed it, but it's just to the regular stock pickup.
01:39But yeah, Stee did sort that out. That was because it died, basically.
01:44But it's just been a great guitar and it's super reliable.
01:48It was weirdly with the Bigs B there was a thing I thought it was going to be losing its
01:53tune all the time,
01:54but it doesn't do that. It stays in tune, which is handy for someone like me
01:59because I don't have to do that all the time.
02:03And it's just been a great guitar. It's been road worn, you know, so it's been traveling around a lot.
02:10I've got it around that little case there. The case is quite wrapped, so it's like, you know, I put
02:16it in the hold
02:17and like these guitars can take a fair bit of whack, you know, from travel and stuff.
02:22But I love it. It's my baby, you know.
02:24In terms of tuning, I basically always have it in standard, like don't really use it.
02:29I've got a capo, which I use for one song, which is there.
02:32But I really don't use, I don't like using capos very much.
02:36Just purely, like I don't really write with them, so I just prefer to work it out in whatever standard
02:42is.
02:44And yeah, I've always kind of gone for a guitar to amp combination, you know.
02:49I don't have any pedals at the minute, you know.
02:52I like to experiment with things in the studio, but I think live, it's just...
02:56I'm very into just sort of the guitar amp situation, you know.
03:00Strings, I use the ex Doddario, the XL strings, and I think it's tens, I think.
03:07Tens, and then it's like twelves on the bottom.
03:10So there's a few different, but they're like my go-to strings.
03:14They seem like the ones that break the least for me.
03:18Anyway, so they've been great.
03:21Yeah, and this is a Blues Junior like tweed amp that I use.
03:26And it's been my go-to amp, really.
03:29Like, I got it a long while ago, and it's just like a...
03:33Yeah, it's a perfect combination, you know.
03:35Both fended and it does the thing.
03:38With the amp, I've got it as a...
03:40Yeah, I really like the reverb sound on this amp.
03:42It's got a lot of stuff going on.
03:45I just, I really like the reverb.
03:47It's not like a shim, it's just a nice reverb.
03:50Generally, I keep the gain quite, like, don't really have much gain going on.
03:54One thing is, especially with this guitar, is just rolling off the treble.
03:58Because, like, it's just super hot as a sound side.
04:03And then, yeah, bass in the middle, you know.
04:06Yeah, middle's on about five.
04:09But I really do roll off the treble.
04:11That's just been from playing live, and then that's something I've noticed.
04:15It just comes out really toppy, especially if it's being mic'd up.
04:18So, with the telly, I'd definitely dial off the treble, for sure.
04:23To be honest with you, I have it on the middle pickup.
04:26Well, this middle spot, most of the time.
04:30And then, for some, you go for the...
04:33It's, like, harsher.
04:34But if I'm playing on my own, I'll sometimes do.
04:38Yeah, and then...
04:40But generally, I have the tone the whole way up, volume the whole way up.
04:43And then just mix between these, depending on the venue.
04:47But, like, majority of songs, it's always on the middle one.
04:50Or if I'm playing solo, it's on that one.
04:53And then, if I'm playing, I don't know, a more bitey tune,
04:57or I accidentally flick it, it's on that one.
05:00I'm more of a keyboard player, you know.
05:02So, it's like, when I picked up and I was just listening to records,
05:05I sort of just started playing with my thumb, and that became a thing.
05:10So, I just, yeah, I play with my...
05:13Kind of my thumb and my finger, like, occasionally, with the picking.
05:17But it's just the way I've got to...
05:20The guitar responds, you know.
05:22It's like, I find it much more...
05:24I feel like the pick kind of disconnects me from it, in a weird way.
05:28But I want to...
05:30I've done it a few times on records and played with the pick,
05:33but when I'm playing live, I just prefer to play with my fingers.
05:36So, yeah.
05:36Thanks so much for watching.
05:38I've been MT Jones, showing you my equipment.
05:41And, yeah, you can check all my stuff out on my website.
05:44It's just mt slash jones dot com.
05:46And then, all the ads are just at MT Jones Music,
05:50and you can find me.
05:51Or just, you know, Google, Spotify, all that stuff.
06:23And...
06:25Wait!
06:26Do it now, go!
06:26Don't forget to post an funnel!
06:26If we're not too much spray,
06:27Let me know how to catch it.
