Making homemade stock is an investment of time, but you're rewarded with a stock that's far superior to any store-bought version. In this video, Martha Stewart’s beef stock recipe cooks long and slow, but it's mostly hands-off. She uses the classic French technique of roasting the bones before simmering them to give the stock caramelized flavor.

00:24two yellow onions, the celery washed of course,
00:28two carrots, unpeeled but washed,
00:31and four cloves of garlic.
