00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:50The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 78
04:59Pay attention, my people, to my instruction.
05:03Listen to the words I speak.
05:06I will sing a song that imparts wisdom.
05:09I will make insightful observations about the past.
05:14What we have heard and learned, that which our ancestors have told us, we will not hide from their descendants.
05:22We will tell the next generation about the Lord's praiseworthy acts, about his strength, and the amazing things he has
05:30done.
05:31He has established a rule in Jacob.
05:34He has set up a law in Israel.
05:37He commanded our ancestors to make his deeds known to their descendants, so that the next generation, children yet to
05:46be born, might know about them.
05:49They will grow up and tell their descendants about them.
05:54Then they will place their confidence in God.
05:57They will not forget the works of God, and they will obey his commands.
06:03Then they will not be like their ancestors, who were a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that was not
06:10committed and faithful to God.
06:13The Ephraimites were armed with bows, but they retreated in a day of battle.
06:19They did not keep their covenant with God.
06:21They refused to obey his law.
06:25They forgot about what he had done, the amazing things he had shown them.
06:31He did amazing things in the sight of their ancestors, in the land of Egypt, in the region of Zoan.
06:38He divided the sea and led them across it.
06:41He made the waters stand in a heap.
06:45He led them with a cloud by day and with the light of a fire all night long.
06:51He broke open rocks in the wilderness and gave them enough water to fill the depths of the sea.
06:58He caused streams to flow from the rock and made the waters flow like rivers.
07:05Yet they continued to sin against him and rebelled against the Most High in the desert.
07:12They willfully challenged God by asking for food to satisfy their appetite.
07:19They insulted, saying,
07:21Is God really able to give us food in the wilderness?
07:26Yes, he struck a rock, and water flowed out, streams gushed forth.
07:32But can he also give us food?
07:35Will he provide meat for his people?
07:39When the Lord heard this, he was furious.
07:42A fire broke out against Jacob, and his anger flared against Israel,
07:47because they did not have faith in God, and did not trust his ability to deliver them.
07:53He gave a command to the clouds above and opened the doors in the sky.
07:57He rained down manna for them to eat.
08:00He gave them the grain of heaven.
08:03Man ate the food of the mighty ones.
08:06He sent them more than enough to eat.
08:09He brought the east wind through the sky,
08:12and by his strength led forth the south wind.
08:15He rained down meat on them like dust,
08:18birds as numerous as the sand on all the seashores.
08:23He caused them to fall right in the middle of their camp,
08:26all around their homes.
08:29They ate until they were beyond full.
08:32He gave them what they desired.
08:35They were not yet filled up,
08:37their food still in their mouths,
08:39when the anger of God flared up against them.
08:42He killed some of the strongest of them.
08:45He brought the young men of Israel to their knees.
08:49Despite all this, they continued to sin,
08:52and did not trust him to do amazing things.
08:56So he caused them to die unsatisfied,
08:59and filled with terror.
09:02When he struck them down, they sought his favor.
09:04They turned back and longed for God.
09:08They remembered that God was their protector,
09:10and that God Most High was their deliverer.
09:14But they deceived him with their words,
09:17and lied to him.
09:19They were not really committed to him,
09:22and they were unfaithful to his covenant.
09:25Yet he is compassionate.
09:28He forgives sin and does not destroy.
09:31He often holds back his anger,
09:33and does not stir up his fury.
09:37He remembered that they were made of flesh,
09:39and were like a wind that blows past,
09:41and does not return.
09:43How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness,
09:47and insulted him in the wastelands.
09:51They again challenged God,
09:53and defended the Holy One of Israel.
09:56They did not remember what he had done,
09:58how he had delivered them from the enemy,
10:01when he performed his awesome deeds in Egypt,
10:03and his acts of judgment in the region of Zoan.
10:08He turned their rivers into blood,
10:10and they could not drink from their streams.
10:13He sent swarms of biting insects against them,
10:16as well as frogs that overran their land.
10:21He gave their crops to the grasshopper,
10:23the fruit of their labour to the locust.
10:27He destroyed their vines with hail,
10:30and their sycamore fig trees with driving rain.
10:34He ran down hail upon their cattle,
10:37and hurled lightning bolts down on their livestock.
10:42His raging anger lashed out against them.
10:45He sent fury, rage, and trouble,
10:48as messengers who bring disaster.
10:51He sent his anger in full force.
10:54He did not spare them from death.
10:56He handed their lives over to destruction.
11:00He struck down all the firstborn in Egypt,
11:04the firstfruits of their reproductive power,
11:07in the tents of Ham.
11:09And yet he brought out his people like sheep.
11:12He led them through the wilderness like a flock.
11:16He guided them safely along,
11:18and they were not afraid.
11:19But the sea covered their enemies.
11:22He brought them to the border of his holy land,
11:25to the mightiest land which his right hand acquired.
11:31He drove the nations out from before them.
11:34He assigned them their tribal allotments,
11:36and allowed the tribes of Israel to settle down.
11:40Yet they challenged and defied God Most High,
11:44and did not obey his commands.
11:47They were unfaithful and acted as treacherously as their ancestors.
11:53They were as unreliable as a malfunctioning bow.
11:57They made him angry with their pagan shrines,
12:00and made him jealous with their idols.
12:05God heard and was angry.
12:06He completely rejected Israel.
12:09He abandoned the sanctuary at Shiloh,
12:12the tent where he lived amongst men.
12:16He allowed the symbol of his strong presence to be captured.
12:20He gave the symbol of his splendor into the hand of the enemy.
12:25He delivered his people over to the sword,
12:28and was angry with his chosen nation.
12:31Fire consumed their young men,
12:34and their virgins remained unmarried.
12:37Their priests fell by the sword,
12:39but their widows did not weep.
12:43But then the Lord awoke from his sleep.
12:46He was like a warrior in a drunken rage.
12:49He drove his enemies back.
12:51He made them a permanent target for insults.
12:54He rejected the tent of Joseph.
12:57He did not choose the tribe of Ephraim.
13:00He chose the tribe of Judah and Mount Zion,
13:03which he loves.
13:05He made his sanctuary as enduring as the heavens above,
13:09as secure as the earth,
13:11which he established permanently.
13:14He chose David his servant,
13:16and took him from the sheepfolds.
13:18He took him away from following the mother sheep,
13:22and made him the shepherd of Jacob his people,
13:24and of Israel his chosen nation.
13:28David cared for them with pure motives.
13:32He led them with skill.
13:35Glory be to the Father, and to the Son,
13:37and to the Holy Spirit,
13:39as it was in the beginning,
13:41is now, and ever shall be,
13:43world without end.
13:45Amen.
13:52The Prophet Haggai, Chapter 1
13:56In the second year of Darius the king,
13:58in the sixth month,
13:59in the first day of the month,
14:01Yahweh's word came by Haggai, the prophet,
14:05to Rezerobabel,
14:07the son of Shertel,
14:10governor of Judah,
14:11and to Joshua,
14:13the son of Jehoshaddak,
14:14the high priest, saying,
14:17this is what Yahweh of Amis says.
14:21These people say the time hasn't yet come,
14:24the time for Yahweh's house to be built.
14:29Then Yahweh's word came by Haggai, the prophet, saying,
14:33is it a time for you to dwell in your panelled houses,
14:37while this house lies waste?
14:41Now, therefore, this is what the Lord of Amis says,
14:47consider your ways,
14:49you have seen much and bring in little,
14:51you eat, but you don't have enough,
14:54you drink, but you are not filled,
14:56you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm,
14:59and he who earns wages,
15:01earns wages to put them into a bag with holes in it.
15:07This is what Yahweh of Amis says,
15:09this is what Yahweh of Amis says,
15:09consider your ways,
15:11go up to the mountain,
15:14bring wood,
15:15build the house,
15:17I will take pleasure in it,
15:19and I will be glorified,
15:20said Yahweh.
15:22You looked for much,
15:24and behold,
15:25it came to little,
15:26and when you brought it home,
15:28I blew it away.
15:29Why?
15:30says Yahweh of Amis.
15:33Because of my house that lies waste,
15:35while each of you is busy with his own house.
15:39Therefore, for your sake,
15:41the heavens withhold the dew,
15:43and the earth withholds its fruit.
15:46I called for a drought on the land,
15:48on the mountains,
15:50on the grain,
15:50on the new wine,
15:51on the oil,
15:52on that which the ground produces,
15:55on men,
15:57livestock,
15:58and on all the labour of the hands.
16:03Then Zerubbabel,
16:04the son of Sheltiel,
16:05and Joshua,
16:06the son of Jehoshaddak,
16:07the high priest,
16:08all were the remnants of the people,
16:11obeyed Yahweh,
16:12their God's voice,
16:13and the words of Haggai,
16:14the prophet,
16:15as Yahweh,
16:16their God,
16:16had sent them,
16:17and the people feared Yahweh.
16:21Then Haggai,
16:22the Yahweh's messenger,
16:24spoke Yahweh's message to the people,
16:26saying,
16:27I am with you,
16:28says Yahweh.
16:30Yahweh stirred up the spirit
16:32of Zerubbabel,
16:33son of Sheltiel,
16:34governor of Judah,
16:35and the spirit of Joshua,
16:37the son of Jehoshaddak,
16:39the high priest,
16:40and the spirit of the remnants of the people.
16:43And they came
16:44and worked on the house
16:45of Yahweh of Amis,
16:47their God,
16:48in the 24th day of the month,
16:50in the 6th month,
16:52in the 2nd year of Darius,
16:54the king.
16:56This is the word of the Lord.
16:59Thanks be to God.
17:12Mary said,
17:14My soul exalts the Lord,
17:17and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
17:21because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
17:27For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
17:31because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
17:35and holy is his name.
17:38From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
17:44He has demonstrated power with his arm.
17:48He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
17:54He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
17:57and has lifted up those of lowly position.
18:01He has filled the hungry with good things,
18:04and has sent the rich away empty.
18:07He has helped his servant Israel,
18:10remembering his mercy,
18:12as he promised to our ancestors,
18:15to Abraham,
18:16and to his descendants for ever.
18:20Glory be to the Father,
18:22and to the Son,
18:22and to the Holy Spirit,
18:25as it was in the beginning,
18:26is now,
18:28and ever shall be,
18:29world without end.
18:31Amen.
18:38The Gospel according to Saint Luke,
18:40chapter 12.
18:44Meanwhile,
18:45when a multitude of many thousands had gathered together,
18:48so much so that they trampled on each other,
18:51he began to tell his disciples,
18:54Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees,
18:57which is hypocrisy.
18:59But there is nothing covered up that will not be revealed,
19:03nor hidden that will not be known.
19:06Therefore,
19:07whatever you have said in the darkness,
19:08will be heard in the light.
19:10Whatever you have spoken in the ear,
19:13in the inner rooms,
19:14will be proclaimed from the rooftops.
19:18I tell you,
19:19my friends,
19:19don't be afraid of those who kill the body,
19:22for after that,
19:23they have no more that they can do.
19:26But I will warn you,
19:27whom you should fear.
19:29Fear him,
19:30who after he has killed,
19:32has power to cast into Gehenna.
19:35Yes,
19:35I tell you,
19:36fear him.
19:38Are not five sparrows sold for two coins?
19:42Yet not one of them is forgotten by God.
19:46The very hairs on your head are all counted.
19:50Therefore,
19:51don't be afraid.
19:53You are of more value than many sparrows.
19:58I tell you,
19:59everyone who confesses me before men,
20:01him will the Son of Man also confess before the angels of God.
20:06But he who denies me in the presence of men will be denied in the presence of the angels of
20:13God.
20:15Everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven.
20:20But those who blaspheme against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.
20:26When they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers and the authorities,
20:30don't be anxious how or what you will answer or what you will say.
20:35For the Holy Spirit will teach you in that same hour what you must say.
20:43One of the multitude said to him,
20:45Teacher,
20:46tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.
20:51But he said to him,
20:53Man,
20:54who made me a judge or arbitrator over you?
20:58He said to the people,
21:00Beware,
21:00keep yourselves from covetousness.
21:03For a man's life does not consist of the abundance of the things which he possesses.
21:11He spoke a parable to them saying,
21:13The ground of a certain rich man produced abundantly.
21:16And he reasoned within himself saying,
21:20What will I do?
21:21Because I don't have room to store my crops.
21:25He said,
21:26This is what I will do.
21:28I will pull down my barns and build bigger ones.
21:31And there I will store all my grain and my goods.
21:36I will tell my soul,
21:39Soul,
21:40you have laid out many goods stored for many years.
21:44Take your ease,
21:45eat, drink and be merry.
21:50But God said to him,
21:51You foolish one,
21:53Tonight your very soul is required of you.
21:57The things which you have prepared,
21:59whose will they be?
22:02So it is for he who lays up treasure for himself
22:06and is not rich toward God.
22:10Therefore I tell you,
22:11Do not be anxious for your life or what you will eat,
22:14nor yet for your body or what you will wear.
22:18Life is more than food and the body is more than clothing.
22:22Consider the ravens.
22:24They don't sow.
22:26They don't reap.
22:27They have no warehouse or barn,
22:30and God feeds them.
22:32How much more valuable are you than the birds?
22:36Which of you, by being anxious,
22:39can add a cubit to his height?
22:42If then you are not able to do even the least of these things,
22:46why are you anxious about the rest?
22:50Consider the lilies and how they grow.
22:53They don't toil and neither do they spin.
22:55And yet I tell you,
22:56even Solomon in all his glory
22:58was not arrayed like one of these.
23:03But if this is how God clothes the grasses in the field,
23:06which exist today and tomorrow
23:08will be cast into the oven,
23:10how much more will he clothe you,
23:13O you of little faith?
23:15Don't think to what you will eat or what you will drink,
23:19neither be anxious.
23:20For the nations of the world seek after all of these things,
23:24but your Father knows that you need these things.
23:28First, seek God's kingdom,
23:31and all these things will be added to you.
23:35Don't be afraid, little flock,
23:37for it is your Father's good pleasure
23:39to give you the kingdom.
23:41Sell what you have,
23:42give gifts to the needy.
23:44Make for yourselves purses which do not grow old.
23:49A treasure in the heavens that does not fail,
23:52where no thief approaches,
23:54neither moth destroys.
23:57For where your treasure is,
24:00there will your hut also be.
24:03Let your waist be dressed,
24:06and your lamps burning.
24:09This is the word of the Lord.
24:12Thanks be to God.
24:23Now, according to your word,
24:26Sovereign Lord,
24:27permit your servant to depart in peace.
24:30For my eyes have seen your salvation,
24:33that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples,
24:38a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
24:41a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
24:41and for glory to your people Israel.
24:46Glory be to the Father,
24:48and to the Son,
24:49and to the Holy Spirit,
24:50as it was in the beginning,
24:52is now, and ever shall be,
24:54world without end.
24:56Amen.
25:01I believe in God the Father Almighty,
25:05maker of heaven and earth,
25:07and in Jesus Christ,
25:09his only Son,
25:09our Lord,
25:11who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
25:14born of the Virgin Mary,
25:16suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
25:19was crucified,
25:21dead,
25:22and buried.
25:23He descended into hell.
25:25On the third day,
25:26he rose again from the dead.
25:29He ascended into heaven,
25:31and is sitting at the right hand of God,
25:33the Father Almighty.
25:36From there,
25:37he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
25:40I believe in the Holy Spirit,
25:43the Holy Catholic Church,
25:45the communion of saints,
25:46the forgiveness of sins,
25:49the resurrection of the body,
25:51and the life everlasting.
25:53Amen.
25:59The Lord be with you,
26:02and with your spirit.
26:06Let us pray.
26:09Lord, have mercy upon us.
26:13Christ, have mercy upon us.
26:17Lord, have mercy upon us.
26:24Our Father,
26:25who is in heaven,
26:27holy is your name.
26:30May your kingdom come.
26:32May your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
26:37Give us this day our daily bread.
26:39Lord, forgive us our trespasses,
26:42as we forgive those who trespass against us.
26:46Lead us not into temptation,
26:48but deliver us from evil.
26:51For yours is the kingdom,
26:54the power and the glory,
26:56for ever and ever.
26:58Amen.
27:04O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
27:07and grant us your salvation.
27:12protect and guide those in authority over us,
27:17and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
27:23Endue your ministers with righteousness,
27:26and make your chosen people joyful.
27:32O Lord, save your people,
27:35and bless your inheritance.
27:40Give peace in our time, O Lord,
27:43because there is none other who fights for us,
27:46but only you, O God.
27:50O God, make clean our hearts within us,
27:55and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
28:06Let us pray.
28:09O God, for as much as without you,
28:12we are not able to please you,
28:15mercifully grant that your Holy Spirit
28:18may in all things direct and rule our hearts,
28:22through Jesus Christ our Lord.
28:25Amen.
28:34O God, from whom all holy desires,
28:39all good counsels,
28:40and all just works proceed,
28:43give to your servants that peace
28:45which the world cannot give,
28:48that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
28:51and also that, by you,
28:54we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
28:58may pass our time in rest and quietness,
29:02through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour.
29:06Amen.
29:11Lighten our darkness,
29:13we beseech you, O Lord,
29:15and by your great mercy defend us all
29:17from perils and dangers of this night.
29:21For the love of your only Son,
29:23our Saviour, Jesus Christ.
29:26Amen.
29:30Almighty God,
29:31who has given us grace at this time with one accord
29:35to make our common supplications to you,
29:39and promises that when two or three
29:41are gathered together in your name,
29:43you will grant their requests.
29:47Fulfill now, O Lord,
29:48the desires and petitions of your servants,
29:52as may be most beneficial for them,
29:56granting us in this world
29:58knowledge of your truth,
30:00and in the world to come,
30:02life everlasting.
30:04Amen.
30:07With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
30:10and the love of God,
30:11and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
30:14be with us all evermore.
30:17Amen.
