00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary, as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:50Give us this day our daily bread.
03:53Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
04:10Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:57Psalm 73
05:00Certainly God is good to Israel, and to those whose motives are pure.
05:06But as for me, my feet almost slipped, my feet almost slid out from under me.
05:12For I envied those who are proud, as I observe the prosperity of the wicked.
05:19For they suffer no pain.
05:21Their bodies are strong and well fed.
05:24They are immune to the common trouble to men.
05:27They do not suffer as other men do.
05:31Arrogance is their necklace, and violence covers them like clothing.
05:36Their prosperity causes them to do wrong, and their thoughts are sinful.
05:43They mock and say evil things.
05:46They proudly threaten violence.
05:49They speak as if they rule in heaven, and lay claim to the earth.
05:55Therefore they have more than enough food to eat, and even suck up the water of the sea.
06:00They say, how does God know what we do?
06:05Is the Most High aware of what goes on?
06:10Take a good look.
06:12This is what the wicked are like.
06:15Those who always have it so easy, and get richer and richer.
06:20I concluded, surely in vain, I have kept my motives pure, and maintained a pure lifestyle.
06:29I suffer all day long, and I am punished every morning.
06:35If I had publicized these thoughts, I would have betrayed your people.
06:40And when I tried to make sense of this, it was troubling to me.
06:47Then I entered the precincts of God's temple, and I understood the destiny of the wicked.
06:55Surely you put them in slippery places, and you bring them down to ruin.
07:01How desolate they become in a mere moment.
07:05Terrifying judgments make their demise complete.
07:10They are like a dream after one wakes up.
07:13O Lord, when you awake, you will despise them.
07:18Yes, my spirit was bitter, and my insides felt a sharp pain.
07:24I was ignorant, and lacked insight.
07:27I was as senseless as an animal before you.
07:32But I am continually with you.
07:34You hold my right hand.
07:37You guide me by your wise advice, and then you will lead me to a position of honor.
07:43Whom do I have in heaven but you?
07:46I desire no one but you on earth.
07:50My flesh and my heart may grow weak, but God always protects my heart and gives me stability.
07:58Yes, look, those far from you die.
08:02You destroy everyone who is unfaithful to you.
08:06But as for me, God's presence is all I need.
08:10I have made the Sovereign Lord my shelter, as I declare all the things you have done.
08:17Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
08:23is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:27Amen.
08:31Psalm 74
08:34Why, O God, have you permanently rejected us?
08:38Why does your anger burn against the sheep of your pasture?
08:46Remember your people, whom you acquired in ancient times,
08:50whom you rescued, so that they could be your very own nation as well as Mount Zion, where you dwell.
08:58Hurry, to the permanent ruins, and to all the damage the enemy has done to the temple.
09:05Your enemies roar in the middle of your sanctuary.
09:09They set up their battle flags.
09:11They invade like lumberjacks swinging their axes in a thick forest.
09:17And now they are tearing down all its engravings with axes and crowbars.
09:24They set your sanctuary on fire.
09:26They desecrate your dwelling place by knocking it to the ground.
09:32They say to themselves,
09:34We will oppress all of them.
09:37They burn down all the places where people worship God in the land.
09:43We do not see any signs of God's presence.
09:46There are no longer any prophets,
09:48and we have no one to tell us how long this will last.
09:53How long, O God, will the adversary hurl insults?
09:57Will the enemy blaspheme your name forever?
10:00Why do you remain inactive, intervene and destroy him?
10:09But God has been my king from ancient times,
10:12performing acts of deliverance on the earth.
10:16You destroyed the sea by your strength.
10:19You shattered the heads of the sea monster in the water.
10:24You crushed the heads of the Leviathan.
10:27You fed him to the people who live along the coast.
10:30You broke open the spring and the stream.
10:33You dried up perpetually flowing rivers.
10:38You established the cycle of day and night.
10:41You put the moon and the sun in place.
10:45You set up all the boundaries of the earth.
10:48You created the cycle of summer and winter.
10:52Remember how the enemy hurls insults, O Lord,
10:56and how a foolish nation blasphemes your name.
11:01Do not hand the life of your dove over to a wild animal.
11:06Do not continue to disregard the lives of your oppressed people.
11:12Remember your covenant promises,
11:14for the dark regions of the earth are full of places where violence rules.
11:20Do not let the afflicted be turned back in shame.
11:25Let the oppressed and the poor praise your name.
11:29Rise up, O God.
11:31Defend your honor.
11:33Remember how fools insult you all day long.
11:37Do not disregard what your enemies say,
11:39or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you.
11:45Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
11:49as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
11:53world without end.
11:55Amen.
12:02The prophet Zephaniah chapter 2
12:07Woe to the inhabitants of the seacoast,
12:09the nation of the Cherethites.
12:13Yahweh's word is against you, Canaan,
12:15the land of the Philistines.
12:17I will destroy you, that there will be no inhabitants.
12:21The seacoast will be pastures with cottages for the shepherds and folds for flocks.
12:28The coast will be for the remnants of the house of Judah.
12:33They will find pasture.
12:35In the houses of Ashkelon they will lie down in the evening,
12:39for Yahweh their God will visit them and restore them.
12:44I have heard the reproach of Moab and the insults of the children of Ammon,
12:49with which they have reproached my people and magnified themselves against their border.
12:57Therefore, as I live, says Yahweh of armies,
13:00the God of Israel, most surely Moab, will be as Sodom,
13:03and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah.
13:08A possession of nettles, salt pits,
13:11a perpetual desolation.
13:15The remnants of my people will plunder them,
13:18and the survivors of my nation will inherit them.
13:22This they will have for their pride,
13:24because they have reproached and magnified themselves
13:26against the people of Yahweh of armies.
13:31Yahweh will be awesome to them,
13:33for he will fanimish all the gods of the land.
13:37Men will worship him,
13:38everyone from his place,
13:40even all the shores of the nations.
13:43You Kashites also,
13:45you will be killed by my sword.
13:47He will stretch out his hand against the north,
13:50destroy Assyria,
13:52and will make Nineveh a desolation,
13:54as dry as the wilderness.
13:57Herds will lie down in the middle of her,
14:00all the animals of the nations.
14:03Both the pelican and the porcupine
14:05will lodge in its capitals.
14:08Their calls will echo through the windows.
14:13Desolation will be in the thresholds,
14:15for he has laid bare the cedar beams.
14:18This is the joyous city that lived without care,
14:21that said in her heart,
14:23I am and there is no one beside me.
14:26How she has become a desolation,
14:28a place for animals to lie down in.
14:33Everyone who passes by her will hiss
14:35and shake their fists.
14:38This is the word of the Lord.
14:41Thanks be to God.
14:54Mary said,
14:56My soul exalts the Lord,
14:58and my spirit has begun to rejoice
15:01in God my Saviour,
15:03because he has looked
15:04upon the humble state of his servant.
15:08For from now on,
15:10all generations will call me blessed,
15:13because he who is mighty
15:15has done great things for me,
15:17and holy is his name.
15:19From generation to generation,
15:22he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:26He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:29He has scattered those whose pride
15:32wells up from the sheer arrogance
15:33of their hearts.
15:35He has brought down the mighty
15:37from their thrones,
15:38and has lifted up those
15:40of lowly position.
15:42He has filled the hungry
15:44with good things,
15:45and has sent the rich away empty.
15:48He has helped his servant Israel,
15:51remembering his mercy,
15:53as he promised to our ancestors,
15:56to Abraham,
15:57and to his descendants forever.
16:01Glory be to the Father,
16:03and to the Son,
16:04and to the Holy Spirit,
16:05as it was in the beginning,
16:08is now,
16:09and ever shall be,
16:11world without end.
16:13Amen.
16:18The Gospel according to Saint Luke,
16:21chapter 11.
16:24As the crowds were increasing,
16:26Jesus began to say,
16:28This generation is a wicked generation.
16:31It looks for a sign,
16:33but no sign will be given to it,
16:35except the sign of Jonah.
16:38For just as Jonah became a sign
16:40to the people of Nineveh,
16:42so the Son of Man
16:43will be a sign
16:44to this generation.
16:46The Queen of the South
16:48will rise up at the judgment
16:49with the people
16:50of this generation,
16:52and condemn them,
16:53because she came
16:54from the ends of the earth
16:56to hear the wisdom of Solomon.
16:57And now,
16:59something greater than Solomon
17:00is here.
17:02The people of Nineveh
17:03will stand up at the judgment,
17:05with this generation,
17:07and condemn it,
17:08because they repented
17:10when Jonah preached to them.
17:13Now,
17:14something far greater
17:15than Jonah
17:16is here.
17:19While he was talking,
17:20a Pharisee made a request
17:22that he come
17:23and share a meal with him.
17:25And he went in
17:26and took his seat
17:27at the meal.
17:28When the Pharisee saw it,
17:30he was surprised,
17:31because he came to the meal
17:32without first washing himself.
17:35The Lord said to him,
17:37You Pharisees
17:38make the outside
17:39of the cup
17:39and the plate clean,
17:41but inside you are thieves
17:43and full of evil.
17:44You foolish ones,
17:46did not he
17:47who make the outside
17:48in the same way
17:49also make the inside?
17:52If you give to the poor
17:53such things
17:54as you are able,
17:55then all things
17:56are clean to you.
17:59But woe to you,
18:00Pharisees,
18:01you give a tenth
18:02of your mint,
18:03rue,
18:03and every herb,
18:04and yet you neglect
18:06justice and love
18:07for God.
18:09You should have done
18:10these things
18:10without neglecting
18:12the others.
18:13Woe to you,
18:14Pharisees,
18:15for you love
18:16the best seats
18:17in the synagogues
18:17and elaborate greetings
18:19in the marketplace.
18:21Woe to you,
18:22for you are like
18:23unmarked graves
18:24and people walk
18:26over them
18:26without realising it.
18:30One of the experts
18:31in religious law
18:32answered,
18:33Teacher,
18:34when you say
18:34these things
18:35you insult us too.
18:38Jesus replied,
18:40Woe to you,
18:41experts in religious law
18:42as well,
18:44for you load
18:45people down
18:45with burdens
18:47too difficult
18:48to bear,
18:49and yet you yourselves
18:50refuse to touch
18:52the burdens
18:52with even one
18:53of your fingers.
18:56Woe to you,
18:57you build the tombs
18:58of the prophets
18:59whom your ancestors
19:01killed.
19:02You testify
19:03that you approve
19:04of the deeds
19:05of your ancestors
19:05because they killed
19:07the prophets
19:09and you build
19:10their tombs.
19:13For this reason
19:14also the wisdom
19:15of God said,
19:16I will send them
19:17prophets and apostles,
19:18some of them
19:19they will kill
19:20and persecute,
19:22so that this generation
19:23may be held
19:24accountable
19:25for the blood
19:25of all the prophets
19:26that has been shed
19:28since the beginning
19:29of the world.
19:30From the blood
19:31of Abel
19:31to the blood
19:32of Zechariah
19:33who was killed
19:34between the altar
19:35and the sanctuary.
19:37Yes,
19:38I tell you,
19:38it will all be charged
19:40against this generation.
19:43Woe to you,
19:44experts in religious law,
19:45for you have taken away
19:47the key to knowledge.
19:48You did not go in yourselves
19:50and you hindered those
19:52who were going in.
19:55And when he went out
19:56from there,
19:56the experts in the law
19:58and the Pharisees
19:59began to oppose him bitterly
20:01and to ask him
20:02hostile questions
20:04about many things,
20:05plotting against him
20:07to catch him
20:08in something
20:09that he might say.
20:11This is the word
20:13of the Lord.
20:14Thanks be to God.
20:25Now, according to your word,
20:27Sovereign Lord,
20:29permit your servant
20:30to depart in peace.
20:31For my eyes
20:33have seen your salvation
20:34that you have prepared
20:36in the presence
20:37of all peoples,
20:39a light for revelation
20:41to the Gentiles
20:42and for glory
20:44to your people Israel.
20:47Glory be to the Father
20:49and to the Son
20:50and to the Holy Spirit,
20:52as it was in the beginning,
20:53is now and ever shall be,
20:56world without end.
20:57Amen.
21:03I believe in God
21:05the Father Almighty,
21:07maker of heaven
21:08and earth
21:08and in Jesus Christ,
21:10his only Son,
21:11our Lord,
21:12who was conceived
21:14by the Holy Spirit,
21:16born of the Virgin Mary,
21:18suffered
21:18unto Pontius Pilate,
21:21was crucified,
21:23dead,
21:23and buried.
21:24He descended
21:25into hell.
21:26On the third day
21:28he rose again
21:29from the dead.
21:30He ascended
21:31into heaven
21:32and is sitting
21:33at the right hand
21:34of God
21:35the Father Almighty.
21:37From there
21:38he shall come
21:39to judge
21:39the living
21:40and the dead.
21:42I believe
21:43in the Holy Spirit,
21:44the Holy Catholic Church,
21:46the communion
21:47of saints,
21:48the forgiveness
21:48of sins,
21:50the resurrection
21:51of the body
21:52and the life
21:53everlasting.
21:55Amen.
22:00The Lord be with you
22:03and with your spirit.
22:07Let us pray.
22:11Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:14Christ, have mercy upon us.
22:19Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:25Our Father
22:26who is in heaven,
22:29holy is your name.
22:31May your kingdom come.
22:34May your will be done
22:35on earth
22:36as it is in heaven.
22:38Give us this day
22:40our daily bread.
22:41Forgive us
22:42our trespasses
22:43as we forgive those
22:44who trespass against us.
22:48Lead us not
22:49into temptation,
22:49but deliver us
22:51from evil.
22:53For yours
22:54is the kingdom,
22:55the power
22:56and the glory
22:57forever and ever.
23:00Amen.
23:05O Lord,
23:06show your mercy upon us
23:08and grant us
23:10your salvation.
23:14protect and guide
23:15those in authority
23:17over us
23:19and mercifully hear us
23:21when we call upon you.
23:24Endue your ministers
23:26with righteousness
23:28and make your chosen
23:30people joyful.
23:33O Lord,
23:34save your people
23:37and bless
23:38your inheritance.
23:41Give peace
23:42in our time,
23:43O Lord,
23:45because there is
23:46none other
23:47who fights for us
23:48but only you,
23:49O God.
23:51O God,
23:53make clean
23:53our hearts
23:54within us
23:56and take not
23:57your Holy Spirit
23:59from us.
24:07Let us pray.
24:10O God,
24:11for as much as
24:13without you
24:13we are not able
24:15to please you.
24:16Mercifully grant
24:18that your Holy Spirit
24:19may in all things
24:21direct and rule
24:22our hearts
24:23through Jesus Christ
24:25our Lord.
24:27Amen.
24:36O God,
24:37from whom
24:38all holy desires,
24:40all good counsels
24:41and all just works
24:42proceed,
24:44give to your servants
24:45that peace
24:46which the world
24:47cannot give
24:48that our hearts
24:50may be set
24:51to obey
24:52your commandments
24:52and also
24:54that by you
24:55we,
24:56being defended
24:57from the fear
24:58of our enemies,
24:59may pass our time
25:01in rest
25:02and quietness
25:03through the merits
25:05of Jesus Christ
25:06our Saviour.
25:08Amen.
25:12Lighten our darkness
25:14as we beseech you
25:15O Lord
25:15and by your great mercy
25:18defend us all
25:19from perils
25:20and dangers
