00:17When a wicked person turns from the wickedness he has committed, and does what is just and right, he will
00:26preserve his life.
00:30For I am aware of my rebellious acts, I am forever conscious of my sin.
00:39Hide your face from my sins, wipe away all my guilt.
00:47The sacrifices God desires are a humble spirit, O God, a humble and repentant heart you will not reject.
01:01Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, the scripture moves us in sundry places to acknowledge and confess our many sins and
01:10wickedness.
01:12We should not justify nor hide them before the face of Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, but confess them with
01:20a humble, lowly, penitent and obedient heart.
01:24To the end that we may obtain forgiveness of the same, by his infinite goodness and mercy.
01:35Although we ought always to humbly acknowledge our sins before God, we should do this particularly when we assemble and
01:43meet together,
01:44to give thanks for the great benefits we have received at his hands.
01:48To give him most worthy praise, to hear his most holy word, and to ask those things which are truly
01:57necessary as well for the body as the soul.
02:02Therefore I pray and ask you, who are present here today, to accompany me with a pure heart and humble
02:09voice to the throne of the heavenly grace, as we say together.
02:16Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep.
02:23We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts.
02:29We have offended against your holy laws.
02:32We have failed to do those things which we ought to have done, and we have done things which we
02:39ought not to have done.
02:44But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us, miserable sinners.
02:49Spare those, O God, who confess their faults.
02:53Restore those who are truly penitent, according to your promises declared to mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord.
03:03Grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to
03:12the glory of your holy name. Amen.
03:18Grant, we beseech you, merciful Lord, to your faithful people, pardon and peace, that they may be cleansed from all
03:26their sins, and serve you with a quiet mind.
03:30Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
03:38Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be your name.
03:43Your kingdom come, your will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.
03:49Give us this day our daily bread.
03:52Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
03:59Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
04:05For yours is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.
04:10Amen.
04:15O Lord, open our lips, and our mouths shall sing out your praise.
04:23O God, make speed to save us.
04:27O Lord, make haste to help us.
04:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
04:39As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
04:45Amen.
04:48Praise the Lord.
04:51The Lord's name be praised.
04:56Psalm 47
04:59All you nations, clap your hands.
05:02Shout out to God in celebration.
05:05For the Lord Most High is awe-inspiring.
05:09He is the great King who rules the whole earth.
05:12He subdued nations beneath us, and countries under our feet.
05:17He picked out for us a special land to be a source of pride for Jacob, whom he loves.
05:25God has ascended his throne amid loud shouts.
05:28The Lord has ascended amid the blaring of ram's horns.
05:33Sing to God.
05:34Sing.
05:35Sing to our King.
05:37Sing.
05:37For God is King of the whole earth.
05:40Sing a well-written song.
05:43God reigns over the nations.
05:45God sits on his holy throne.
05:48The nobles of the nations assemble, along with the people of the God of Abraham.
05:54For God has authority over the rules of the earth.
05:57He is highly exalted.
06:01Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
06:05As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
06:11Amen.
06:16Psalm 48
06:19The Lord is great, and certainly worthy of praise in the city of our God, his holy hill.
06:26It is lofty and pleasing to look at, a source of joy to the whole earth.
06:32Mount Zion resembles the peaks of Zaphon.
06:36It is the city of the great King.
06:39God is in its fortresses.
06:41He reveals himself as its defender.
06:44For look, the kings assemble.
06:47They advance together.
06:49As soon as they see, they are shocked.
06:52They are terrified.
06:54They quickly retreat.
06:56Look at them shake uncontrollably, like a woman writhing in childbirth.
07:02With an east wind you shatter the large ships.
07:06We heard about God's mighty deeds, and now we have seen them, in the city of the Lord of Heaven's
07:13armies, in the city of our God.
07:16God makes it permanently secure.
07:20We reflect on your loyal love, O God, within your temple.
07:25The praise you receive, as far away as the ends of the earth, is worthy of your reputation, O God.
07:34You execute justice.
07:36Mount Zion rejoices.
07:38The towns of Judah are happy, because of your acts of judgment.
07:44Walk around Zion.
07:46Encircle it.
07:47Count its towers.
07:49Consider its defences.
07:52Walk through its fortresses, so that you can tell the next generation about it.
07:57For God, our God, is our defender forever.
08:01He guides us.
08:04Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
08:10is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
08:15Amen.
08:19Psalm 49
08:23Listen to this, all you nations.
08:26Pay attention, all you inhabitants of the world.
08:30Pay attention, all you people, both rich and poor.
08:35I will declare a wise saying.
08:37I will share my profound thoughts.
08:41I will learn a song that imparts wisdom.
08:44I will then sing my insightful song to the accompaniment of a harp.
08:51Why should I be afraid in times of trouble, when the sinful deeds of deceptive men threaten to overwhelm me?
08:59They trust in their wealth, and boast in their great riches.
09:04Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother.
09:08He cannot pay God an adequate ransom price.
09:11For the ransom price of a human life is too high, and people go to their final destiny.
09:18So that he might continue to live forever, and not experience death.
09:25Surely one sees that even wise people die.
09:28Fools and spiritually insensitive people all pass away, and leave their wealth to others.
09:35Their grave becomes their permanent residence, their eternal dwelling place.
09:42They name their lands after themselves, but, despite their wealth, people do not last.
09:49They are like animals that perish.
09:52This is the destiny of fools, and of those who approve of their philosophy.
09:58They will travel to Sheol like sheep, with death as their shepherd.
10:03The godly will rule over them, when the day of vindication dawns.
10:09Sheol will consume their bodies, and they will no longer live in impressive houses.
10:15But God will rescue my life from the power of Sheol.
10:20Certainly he will pull me to safety.
10:24Do not be afraid, when a man becomes rich and his wealth multiplies.
10:29For he will take nothing with him when he dies.
10:32His wealth will not follow him down into the grave.
10:37He pronounces this blessing on himself while he is alive.
10:42May men praise you, for you have done well.
10:47But he will join his ancestors, and they will never again see the light of day.
10:54Wealthy people do not understand.
10:56They are like animals that perish.
11:00Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
11:05As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
11:10World without end.
11:12Amen.
11:31The Prophet Micah, Chapter 6
11:35Listen now to what Yahweh says.
11:38Arise, plead your case before the mountains.
11:41And let the hills hear what you have to say.
11:46Hear, you mountains, Yahweh's controversy, and you enduring foundations of the earth.
11:53For Yahweh has a controversy with his people, and he will contend with Israel.
11:59My people, what have I done to you?
12:02How have I burdened you?
12:04Answer me, for I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, redeeming you out of the house of
12:10bondage.
12:12I sent before you Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
12:16My people, remember now what Balak, king of Moab, devised,
12:22and what Balaam, the son of Baor, answered him from Shittim to Gilgal,
12:27that you may know the righteous acts of Yahweh.
12:34How shall I come before Yahweh, and bow myself before the exalted God?
12:41Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
12:47Will Yahweh be pleased with thousands of rams, with tens of thousands of rivers of oil?
12:56Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
13:03He has shown you, O man, what is good.
13:06What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly,
13:10to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?
13:16Yahweh's voice calls to the city, and wisdom sees your name.
13:22Listen to the rod, and he who appointed it.
13:26Are there yet treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked?
13:30Are there short ephah that is accursed?
13:34Shall I be pure with dishonest scales, and with a bag of deceitful weights?
13:41Her rich men are full of violence, her inhabitants speak lies,
13:45and their tongue is deceitful in their speech.
13:49Therefore I also have struck you with a grievous wound.
13:54I have made you desolate because of your sins.
13:59You shall eat, but not be satisfied.
14:03Your humiliation will be within you.
14:06You will store up, but not save.
14:09And that which you save, I will give up to the sword.
14:13You will sow, but you will not reap.
14:16You will tread the olives, but you won't anoint yourself with oil.
14:19And crush grapes, but you will not drink the wine.
14:25For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of Ahab's house.
14:30You walk in their councils, that I may make you a ruin,
14:34and her inhabitants a hissing.
14:37And you will bear the reproach of my people.
14:42This is the word of the Lord.
14:45Thanks be to God.
14:56Mary said,
14:57My soul exalts the Lord,
15:00and my spirit has begun to rejoice in God my Saviour,
15:04because he has looked upon the humble state of his servant.
15:10For from now on all generations will call me blessed,
15:14because he who is mighty has done great things for me,
15:18and holy is his name.
15:21From generation to generation he is merciful to those who fear him.
15:27He has demonstrated power with his arm.
15:31He has scattered those whose pride wells up from the sheer arrogance of their hearts.
15:37He has brought down the mighty from their thrones,
15:40and has lifted up those of lowly position.
15:44He has filled the hungry with good things,
15:47and has sent the rich away empty.
15:50He has helped his servant Israel,
15:53remembering his mercy,
15:55as he promised to our ancestors,
15:58to Abraham,
15:59and to his descendants for ever.
16:03Glory be to the Father,
16:05and to the Son,
16:06and to the Holy Spirit,
16:07as it was in the beginning,
16:10is now,
16:11and ever shall be,
16:12world without end.
16:15Amen.
16:20The Gospel according to Saint Luke,
16:23chapter 9.
16:25Getting the twelve together,
16:27Jesus gave them power and authority over all evil spirits,
16:32and over diseases to make people well.
16:35He sent them out to be preachers of the kingdom of God,
16:38to make well who were ill,
16:41saying to them,
16:42Take nothing for your journey,
16:44no stick,
16:46bag,
16:47bread,
16:47or money,
16:48and do not take two coats.
16:50If you go into a house,
16:52let that house be your resting place,
16:54until you go
16:56away.
16:58If any people will not take you in,
17:00when you go away from that town,
17:02put off its dust from your feet,
17:04for a witness against them.
17:07They went away journeying through all the towns,
17:10preaching the good news,
17:12and making people free from diseases,
17:14in all places.
17:18Now Herod the Tetrarch heard about everything that was happening,
17:22and he was thoroughly perplexed,
17:25because some people were saying that John had been raised from the dead,
17:29while others were saying that Elijah had appeared,
17:32and still others that one of the prophets of long ago had risen.
17:38Herod said,
17:40I had John beheaded,
17:42but who is this about whom I hear such things?
17:46So Herod wanted to learn about Jesus.
17:51When the apostles returned,
17:53they told Jesus everything they had done.
17:57Then he took them with him,
17:59and they went privately to a town called Bethsaida.
18:04But when the crowds found out,
18:06they followed him.
18:08But Jesus welcomed them,
18:10speaking to them about the kingdom of God,
18:13and curing those who needed hearing.
18:18Now the day began to draw to a close,
18:20and so the twelve came and said to Jesus,
18:22Send the crowd away,
18:24that they may go into the surrounding villages and countryside,
18:28and find lodgings and food,
18:30because we are in an isolated place.
18:35But he said to them,
18:36You give them something to eat.
18:39They replied,
18:41But we have no more than five loaves and two fish,
18:44unless we go and buy food for all these people.
18:47Now about five thousand men were there.
18:51He said to his disciples,
18:54Have them sit down in groups of fifty.
18:56And so they did as Jesus directed,
18:59and the people all sat down.
19:02Then he took the five loaves and the two fish,
19:04and looking up to heaven,
19:06he gave thanks and broke them.
19:09He gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd.
19:13They all ate and were satisfied,
19:16and what was left over was picked up,
19:18twelve baskets of broken pieces.
19:22Once, when Jesus was praying by himself,
19:26and his disciples were nearby,
19:28he asked them,
19:29Who do the crowd say that I am?
19:32They answered,
19:34John the Baptist,
19:35or others say Elijah,
19:37and still others that one of the prophets of long ago has arisen.
19:42And he said to them,
19:43But who do you say that I am?
19:46Peter answered,
19:48The Christ of God.
19:51And he commanded them forcefully not to tell anyone,
19:55saying,
19:56The Son of Man must suffer many things,
19:58and be rejected by the elders,
20:00chief priests, and experts in the law,
20:02and be killed,
20:04and rise again on the third day.
20:08If any man desires to come after me,
20:11let him deny himself,
20:12take up his cross,
20:13and follow me.
20:15For whoever desires to save his life will lose it,
20:18but whoever will lose his life for my sake,
20:21the same will save it.
20:24For what does it profit a man,
20:26if he gains the whole world,
20:28and loses or forfeits his own self?
20:32For whoever will be ashamed of me and my words,
20:35of him will the Son of Man be ashamed.
20:39And when he comes in his glory,
20:41on the glory of the Father and the holy angels,
20:45but I tell you the truth,
20:47there are some who stand here,
20:49who will not taste death until they see God's kingdom.
20:54This is the word of the Lord.
20:57Thanks be to God.
21:08Now according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
21:11permit your servant to depart in peace.
21:15For my eyes have seen your salvation,
21:18that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples.
21:22A light for revelation to the Gentiles,
21:26and for glory to your people Israel.
21:31Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
21:35as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
21:39world without end.
21:40Amen.
21:46I believe in God the Father Almighty,
21:50maker of heaven and earth,
21:52and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
21:55who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
21:59born of the Virgin Mary,
22:01suffered unto Pontius Pilate,
22:04was crucified,
22:06was crucified, dead, and buried.
22:07He descended into hell.
22:10On the third day he rose again from the dead.
22:13He ascended into heaven,
22:15and is sitting at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
22:20From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.
22:25I believe in the Holy Spirit,
22:27the Holy Catholic Church,
22:29the communion of saints,
22:31the forgiveness of sins,
22:33the resurrection of the body,
22:35and the life everlasting.
22:38Amen.
22:43The Lord be with you,
22:46and with your spirit.
22:50Let us pray.
22:54Lord, have mercy upon us.
22:57Christ, have mercy upon us.
23:02Lord, have mercy upon us.
23:08Our Father, who is in heaven,
23:12holy is your name.
23:15May your kingdom come.
23:16May your will be done
23:18on earth as it is in heaven.
23:22Give us this day our daily bread.
23:24Forgive us our trespasses,
23:26as we forgive those who trespass against us.
23:31Lead us not into temptation,
23:33but deliver us from evil.
23:36For yours is the kingdom,
23:39the power and the glory,
23:41for ever and ever.
23:43Amen.
23:48O Lord, show your mercy upon us,
23:52and grant us your salvation.
23:57Protect and guide those in authority over us,
24:02and mercifully hear us when we call upon you.
24:07Endure your ministers with righteousness,
24:10and make your chosen people joyful.
24:16O Lord, save your people,
24:20and bless your inheritance.
24:24Give peace in our time,
24:26O Lord,
24:28because there is none other who fights for us,
24:31but only you, O God.
24:35O God, make clean our hearts within us,
24:39and take not your Holy Spirit from us.
24:50Let us pray.
24:53O Lord, we beseech you,
24:55grant your people grace
24:56to withstand the temptations of the world,
24:59the flesh,
25:00and the devil,
25:02and with pure hearts and minds,
25:04follow you, the only God,
25:06through Jesus Christ,
25:08our Lord.
25:09Amen.
25:17O God,
25:19from whom all holy desires,
25:22all good counsels,
25:23and all just works proceed,
25:25give to your servants that peace
25:28which the world cannot give,
25:30that our hearts may be set to obey your commandments,
25:34and also that, by you,
25:37we, being defended from the fear of our enemies,
25:41may pass our time in rest and quietness,
25:45through the merits of Jesus Christ,
25:48our Saviour.
25:49Amen.
25:54Lighten our darkness,
25:56we beseech you, O Lord,
25:57and by your great mercy defend us all
26:00from perils and dangers of this night.
26:04For the love of your only Son,
26:07our Saviour,
26:08Jesus Christ.
26:09Amen.
26:13Almighty God,
26:14who has given us grace
26:16at this time with one accord
26:18to make our common supplications to you,
26:21and promises that when two or three
26:24are gathered together in your name,
26:26you will grant their requests.
26:30Fulfill now, O Lord,
26:32the desires and petitions of your servants,
26:35as may be most beneficial for them,
26:39granting us in this world
26:41knowledge of your truth,
26:43and in the world to come,
26:45life everlasting.
26:47Amen.
26:50With the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
26:53and the love of God,
26:54and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
26:56be with us all evermore.
27:00Amen.
