Flood-hit families in St. Augustine South.. are getting relief supplies and reassurance from the government. Minister of Rural Development and Local Government -Khadijah Ameen.. hit the ground over the weekend.., overseeing emergency response in some of the worst-affected areas.

00:10with them more than sirens as relief was on board inside were cleaning supplies and food
00:16hampers for families hit hard by the recent floods minister khadijah mean visited multiple streets
00:22personally checking in on over 100 families thus far we have visited 136 families and everyone has
00:32received food hampers cleaning supplies and other other relief items many of the affected homes sit
00:39along the karini river where overflow triggered widespread flooding the national flood relief
00:47efforts continue as we were also from the ministry able to deliver stuff to the carony east constituency
00:55and shavonna's west which includes the carony village ibis gardens kelly village madras and
01:02st helena those are these are the catchment areas along the carony river that were affected because
01:09of the overflow she credited her cabinet colleague minister of works and infrastructure julian john
01:17for proactive work on flood control and said the pumps made a big difference i see miss jolene john's
01:24action on the ground already yielding fruit all the areas where there were pumps pumps were working
01:31and that in fact saved the bamboo village as for saturday's relief drive minister means said not a
01:37single taxpayer dollar was spent everything distributed came from private and corporate sponsors we have a
01:45number of corporate sponsors all of these items are not purchased by government the things we are
01:52distributing today is completely given by corporate sponsors and private sponsors and i'm really touched
01:58by families in other parts of my constituents you are not affected but went to the grocery and just bought
02:04a whole lot of disinfect or they bought a whole lot of brooms there are families who brought hampers
02:10sometimes they bought three hampers and it added to our pool so that allows us to reach out the ministry is
02:16also tracking issues street by street passing cases along to other agencies when necessary and reviewing
