Pete Davidson calls out NYC mayor over BQE highway mess

Pete Davidson had a blunt message for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani about the long-running problems surrounding the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, or BQE.

The comedian made the comments during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday night. Host Jimmy Kimmel asked Davidson, a lifelong New Yorker, whether he had any questions for the newly elected mayor.

Davidson immediately responded: “Yes, could he fix the f-----g BQE, please?”

The comment drew loud cheers and applause from the studio audience.

Explaining his frustration, Davidson said: “The BQE has been under construction since before I was born. And here’s my problem with it.”

He continued: “They’re never doing anything. Someone’s just standing there eating a sandwich or on the phone, and there’s all these cones around.”

Davidson then added: “So I don't know what mob front or whatever, who's getting money from whatever, but just fix it, please.”

Kimmel later asked Mamdani about Davidson’s complaint. Mamdani said his administration plans to move forward with a $4 billion rehabilitation project for the city-owned section of the BQE, with construction expected to begin in 2030.
