Netanyahu praises heroic bystander in bloody cockpit attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised passenger Yaniv Hayun after meeting him following the terrifying Flydubai cockpit attack.

Hayun was among the passengers who helped overpower the alleged attacker after a pilot was seriously injured during the flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Speaking about the incident, Hayun explained that the wounded pilot managed to unlock the cockpit door before collapsing, allowing him and other passengers to rush inside.

Hayun said he grabbed the attacker and put him in a chokehold while other passengers helped restrain him. He also described how he briefly pulled the aircraft’s controls to help stabilize the plane before another pilot took over.

Netanyahu praised Hayun’s actions as an extraordinary act of courage, saying his quick response helped prevent what could have become a catastrophic disaster.

The flight, carrying 174 people, eventually made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The passengers were later flown safely to Israel, while the injured pilot, Captain Smit Machchhar, was taken to hospital.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident and the attacker’s motive.
