A’ja Wilson found herself at the center of controversy during the Las Vegas Aces’ Game 2 playoff loss to the Indiana Fever after confronting a spectator late in the fourth quarter.
With Indiana leading 90-79, Wilson became involved in a physical exchange with Fever guard Sophie Cunningham. After getting back up, Wilson noticed a fan behind the basket pointing and shouting toward her. She walked toward the spectator before teammates and officials intervened. Wilson was assessed a technical foul for leaving the court.
The Fever later said arena security investigated the incident and determined that the fan had not violated the venue’s Fan Code of Conduct. The spectator was also allowed to remain in the arena.
Wilson defended her reaction afterward, saying she would not accept someone stepping toward her and pointing at her.
The incident quickly sparked heated reactions online, including accusations of racism against Fever fans, although no violation was found.
Meanwhile, Caitlin Clark delivered a standout performance, recording 27 points, 15 assists and seven rebounds as Indiana won 99-89 to even the playoff series at 1-1.
