'American Idol' alum Caleb Flynn convicted of murdering his wife

Former “American Idol” contestant Caleb Flynn has been found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, following a closely watched trial in Ohio.

Jurors convicted Flynn on all nine charges, including aggravated murder, murder, felonious assault and evidence-tampering offenses. The case centered on prosecutors’ claim that Flynn shot Ashley inside their Tipp City home and then attempted to make the killing appear like a break-in.

A major part of the prosecution’s case involved Flynn’s secret relationship with Alleigha Botner. She testified about their roughly 18-month affair and more than 107,000 messages exchanged between them. Some messages discussed Ashley’s death, including statements prosecutors argued showed Flynn had considered killing his wife.

The defense maintained that prosecutors had not proven Flynn was responsible, highlighting the missing firearm, lack of eyewitnesses and absence of gunshot residue on Flynn.

After the verdict, Flynn’s attorney Patrick Mulligan said the defense was disappointed and expected to appeal.

Flynn’s sentencing is scheduled for October 5. Ashley’s family said the verdict brought accountability but emphasized that they want her remembered for the life she lived, her faith and her devotion to her daughters.
