Trump says past presidents let Kim Jong Un get nukes

President Donald Trump said Tuesday that North Korea’s nuclear arsenal could have been prevented if previous U.S. presidents had taken different action toward Kim Jong Un.

During a conversation with reporters, Trump was asked why North Korea is allowed to have nuclear weapons while he has repeatedly maintained that Iran should not be permitted to obtain them.

Trump pointed to past U.S. administrations, saying, “Oh, that's interesting. You know why? Because he had a different president and they could have stopped him.”

He also described his relationship with the North Korean leader, saying, “He happens to be a friend of mine, Kim Jong Un. He's a friend of mine. He likes Trump, doesn't like a lot of other people. He I'm about the only person in the entire world that he likes, and I like him. I get a lot of heat when I say that. People say that's terrible.”

Discussing North Korea’s nuclear capabilities, Trump added, “He does have a nuclear capacity, a large nuclear, pretty large nuclear, not like us, but he has a nuclear capacity.”

Trump concluded, “Because they had presidents that didn't do what I did.”
