00:00A small business owner weighed in last night on KDKA Radio about Allegheny County's revised
00:05parental leave plan. 3G Security Solutions minority owner Jennifer Dentini told Michael
00:11Bartley. We want people to have, you know, healthy babies, healthy moms, and be being fully employed
00:17and understanding that there's a balance whenever it comes to all of that. And I just think that,
00:23again, on this level that the county is trying to mandate this is just not the appropriate way to do
00:27that. Dentini, a Republican activist, said it's not a policy that should be enacted at the county
00:32level. In Harrisburg, lawmakers are debating a statewide paid family leave law. A man was shot
00:38in the groin overnight in Stowe Township. This happened a few minutes before 1230 a.m. in the
00:42700 block of Ridge Avenue. The man was taken to a hospital in stable condition, and detectives say
00:48there was an altercation before the shooting. Also, police are searching for a 70-year-old woman.
00:54Her name is Sandra Fields. She was reported missing on September 9th. Her last contact with
00:59family was in July. She has a serious health condition and may require medical assistance.
01:05Fields was last seen on Center Avenue in the Hill District. She is 5'6", weighs 100 pounds,
01:11and has white hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 911.
01:16A teen remains in grave condition at a hospital after falling 30 feet at construction site Thursday
01:21morning in Highland Park. The boy was with a group of Amish roofing workers at a building on Bryant
01:26Street. Sean McCory told KDKA-TV it seemed that they were not taking safety precautions like wearing
01:32harnesses. I saw them, you know, just kind of throwing stuff up from the outside of the building
01:37and kind of catching it like over the side and bring it in. The teen had a serious head injury.
01:43Now Pittsburgh police and OSHA are investigating. And state police are getting the word out about a scammer who
01:48successfully convinced someone she was WWE superstar Rhea Ripley and she needed money. Troopers say the
01:55con artist ripped him off for more than $42,000, but details of how it went down were not included
02:01in the release. They did say the victim refused to cooperate with the investigation.
02:07A local hospital has been named on a prestigious list. Newsradio KDKA's Rob Taylor has the story in the
02:14newsroom. And Paul, UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh this week was named to the U.S. News
02:18and World Report's Best Children's Hospital's Honor Roll for 2026-27, earning a place among the
02:24nation's top 10 pediatric hospitals. UPMC Children's is tied for the top spot in the Mid-Atlantic region,
02:30tied with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and Children's National Hospital in Washington, D.C.
02:35UPMC Children's is ranked number three nationally in diabetes and endocrinology, number four nationally
02:41in pulmonology, and number 10 nationally in nephrology. The annual U.S. News and World Report
02:47rankings evaluate children's hospitals based on clinical outcomes, patient safety, infection
02:52prevention, nursing quality, and other measures of excellence across pediatric specialties.
02:56In the newsroom, Rob Taylor, Newsradio KDKA.
03:00Changes are coming next year to Pennsylvania's SNAP benefits, and Newsradio KDKA's David Balarano
03:06has that.
03:06Like most debit or credit cards, SNAP cards will soon include chips as part of a $7 million
03:11overhaul of the program. The new cards will start going out in the spring and come amid
03:15growing concerns that criminals have been able to steal recipient benefits by using skimmer
03:19devices, which have been surreptitiously installed on a store's point-of-sale terminal.
03:23Though a skimmer response team created last year has already found nearly 150 devices installed,
03:29A sweep last week in Philadelphia found devices containing information on more than 3,000
03:34recipients. In the meantime, until the new cards are received, users are encouraged to
03:38go online and lock their card after each trip to the store. So, even if someone has stolen
03:42their info, they're unable to use it. David Balarano, Newsradio KDKA.
03:46In KDKA, sports pit is 3-0 after last night's 27-13 win over Syracuse. The Panthers racked up
03:53nearly 250 yards rushing, and Pat Narduzzi won a record 144th game.
03:58Pirates over the Brewers 7-4 to avoid a sweep. Newcastle is at Avonworth tonight on the high
04:03school football game of the week. Coverage starts with KDKA kickoff at 6.
