Aldershot Town manager Scott Davies speaks after his side's 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town.
Transcript
00:01Scott coming from behind to get a 1-1 draw against a competitive good Yeovil side.
00:06What are your thoughts on that?
00:06I thought Yeovil were excellent for the first half an hour until the red card
00:11and then it probably became more of an even affair.
00:14I think for us to go in at half-time 1-0 down probably suited us
00:18because we felt as though we'd get a chance.
00:21Was it the nicest goal in the world? No.
00:23I don't really care how they come, but I think the most pleasing thing
00:26is that we've shown good character, a good mentality to get back into the game, find a way.
00:32And the most important thing is it becomes four really good points in three days,
00:36six unbeaten, and I'm really proud of the team tonight for not giving up.
00:41They didn't stop. There was a lot that I liked about it.
00:43There was a lot that I didn't like, but credit to the boys.
00:46Yeah, and as you say, after that first half hour to come from behind
00:49and it's 15 points from eight games, four from two, all sorts of good statistics really, isn't it?
00:54Yeah, exactly. We look at groups of games and Solihull and Yeovil at home.
00:58If someone had said to me that you can get four points out of those two,
01:01I would have taken it, of course.
01:04But yeah, they're a really good team. I think they're really well coached.
01:07They've got some top, top footballers.
01:09They'll cause a lot of teams problems this year.
01:11And I think at some point they'll probably give someone a good hiding.
01:13So we were up against it for the first 20, 25 minutes.
01:17I didn't feel like we were brave enough off the ball.
01:19I thought we were a little bit timid and a little bit passive.
01:23And as soon as you do that against a good team, you feel the pressure building.
01:27So we had to get into half-time.
01:29The fact that we got the red card, like I said, a little bit of luck on our side.
01:33But we played with nine men at Kidderminster.
01:37Luck was on our side tonight to enable us to get a point.
01:40Just thoughts on the red card? I don't know how clearly you saw it.
01:43Yeah, I think it's one of those where it's probably reckless now, where it's classed as a reckless foul.
01:48And I'll be honest, I thought Sticker's one as well was lucky to get away with his.
01:51It looked aggressive.
01:53If the ref had sent him off and evened up the numbers, I probably couldn't have moaned too much.
01:58And I think Sticker's had his heart in his mouth as well.
02:00So, yeah, I'll always be honest, I'm not going to lie.
02:03I thought we maybe got away with one there.
02:06But like you said, we were due a bit of luck.
02:07We missed three penalties.
02:08We played with nine men.
02:10We've had it tough and we've still remained unbeaten for six games.
02:13So, like I said, really proud of the lads.
02:16To be 1-0 down against ten men, you can obviously then on sending off be very decisive and make
02:21that attacking change.
02:21Obviously very tactical, isn't it?
02:22You know, just to get Alfonso on.
02:24Yeah, I had to.
02:24I had to.
02:25It was the right thing to do.
02:26I'm not just saying that because we came back and got a point, but we don't need three almost defensive
02:31midfielders in there.
02:33Unfair on Borghi, of course, but I'm always going to do it for the sake of the team.
02:36I can't sort of do it for one individual that's going to be upset.
02:41And I'd like to think that change hopefully helped us in terms of how we played and being a bit
02:45more aggressive and getting into their half a little bit more.
02:49It's one of those things like it's disappointing for him.
02:51But for the sake of the team, you have to sacrifice yourself.
02:54And that's what he's done tonight.
02:55At halftime, what was the message going into that second half?
02:59If the red card hadn't been given, I think I was going to tear the change into pieces, if I'm
03:04honest.
03:05When the red card was given and we got in at 1-0, I thought, you know what, this game's
03:08not done.
03:08And I didn't feel like I needed to say too much.
03:10We wanted to get the ball wide. We wanted to get 1v1s and 2v2s.
03:13And I was delighted with the goal because Hacks gets the ball, slides Nino and the opposite fallback on the
03:18far side scores.
03:19So that's what we're about, dying to get in the box, the willingness to run forward, the willingness to run
03:24back.
03:25So, yeah, the messaging wasn't anything complicated.
03:29Just make them defend as much as you can, get balls out wide and get crosses in the box.
03:33It's a really nice combination from Hakim and Nino down the left, wasn't it?
03:38And then Michy showing that desire to get it in.
03:42Yeah, I had to scream at Nino to run forward because you could see there was an opportunity for space
03:45down the side of Hakim.
03:47And you have to sort of encourage him and control him to do it.
03:50I'm delighted that he's done it and he deserves it because it's an assist to his name and he's been
03:54excellent this season.
03:55So it's just sometimes you need to joystick control some of these lads and just get them to go and
04:02play football.
04:02Life as though they're playing down the park because they've got so much ability and they need to take the
04:06shackles off at times.
04:07And I want them to play over freedom.
04:09But for 25 minutes tonight, we played like we had the weight of the world on our shoulders and it
04:13was a bit strange.
04:14So, no, like you say, overall, we've come away with a point and I've got to be pleased with that.
04:18Like you say, to come through that start, get the points, 6-1 beating, all positives.
04:22And a long trip to Barrow. I presume obviously you'll go up on Friday, won't you?
04:25Yeah, go up on Friday. Really tough game.
04:28League positioning we won't look at because I think they're somewhere down near the bottom four.
04:33Team full of experience, top manager for the level and it'll be tough.
04:37So, yeah, it's a game that we'll prepare and plan for.
04:40Train on Thursday, travel up on Friday and stretch our legs on the way up somewhere and train.
04:45So, yeah, looking forward to it.
04:47We go into it now with a little bit more confidence than what we would have done had we have
04:50lost.
04:51So, yeah, a game we look forward to.
04:52Bye-bye.
04:53Bye.
