00:00First game competitively in charge of All Shot Town here at the UBB and let's
00:05deal with that first before we even get to the game. The day, the occasion, the
00:09crowd, the atmosphere, it's exactly what you would have wanted wasn't it? Yeah I
00:13thought it was fantastic at the beginning of the game I knew I had to do that
00:16awkward sort of lap and clap the fans and they clap me back and it's not it's
00:20not really me but I said to my wife about it last night Rob that I've got to do it
00:23to show my appreciation but for the fans to clap me back it's not the
00:27feeling I kind of enjoy which is quite strange but the ovation was incredible
00:32the banner at the front of the at the East Bank was yeah it's so special to
00:37see that someone's gone to that length to get that done and made and of course
00:42it's nice but I didn't want it to be about my first game and that sounds
00:46weird because we've got a lot of new players at the club and yeah I didn't
00:51want this sort of occasion to take over the football match and I thought for 20
00:54minutes I thought we were kind of similar to last week where the game didn't
00:58settle down it was helter-skelter not much quality in it and then for the 25
01:03minutes yet again at the end of the first half I thought Hakim Sanders started to
01:06look really threatening we had a really good opportunity from a header from
01:08Michio Fetty and we looked pretty solid I think Hazy made one save and the
01:13problem is is that halftime came for 10 minutes it was probably quite even and then
01:18all of a sudden for 10 minutes we got camped in our final third and we needed to see out
01:22that last phase of play unfortunately we switched off at the back post we let a
01:26runner come inside and then you think it's not going to be our day then lo and
01:30behold Basil Tumor would have probably had one of the best assists I've ever seen
01:34for winning the penalty absolutely outstanding in terms of his running power
01:38and then poor old Marcus Delanger's popping over the bar and he's yeah he's
01:42obviously really disappointed he wanted to score it desperately to get something from
01:46the game and obviously score in front of the all-shot fans for the first time
01:49the season but there's no no blame attached he's he's been big enough to
01:53stand up and take it and it's just a technical issue right where he's put it
01:56over the bar so I'm sure he'll be on the next one would have been great to get a
02:00point but here we are we have to move on yeah it's nobody it's one of those
02:05coulda woulda shoulda days in it and nobody wants to be that nobody wants to be
02:08gallant heroes but we're looking at a new project here it's not very far in game
02:13number two you've got to play one of the absolute favorites for the league and I have to
02:17say I think you called it spot-on for 55 minutes toe-to-toe nothing in that game
02:22yeah exactly that and I said to the lads in the changing master I said if there's a
02:26way to lose a football game I think that's it and I can't sort of fault any of the
02:31non-negotiables in terms of the work rate the effort the desire to fend the
02:35box what they did it for 99.9% of the time it's just a lapse of concentration it's
02:41not that someone's been lazy and just momentarily switched off at a back post and
02:44you look at it and you go that's what good teams do it reminded me reminded me very much
02:50of the all-shot team I played in back in 2007 2008 we won games like that and we
02:55was kind of resilient and solid at the back and I think ultimately that's why
02:58teams like Hartlepool probably finished towards the top end they don't give you
03:02any sniffs so it's it's hard to take of course it is but I thought we put in a
03:07really good performance their management team or one of their management team just
03:10said to me thought a draw would have been a fair result and I can't argue with that
03:14but it's easy to say it once you've won again exactly Jeff Stelling for what it's
03:18worth said exactly the same thing to us a few minutes ago if we're going to be
03:22picky the difference for me in the first half with the opportunities that did come
03:26along were that Nick Hayes made a good save from Milonga and one of your guys got
03:32a great block in from Jack Hunter's effort that was on that was on target at the
03:35other end you've got a fetis header that's deft and was clever and just passed the
03:40post but the other couple of three chances we've opened them right up and
03:44got clean through on goal and one or two of the players will be a bit
03:46disappointed with their finish because they've probably been sticking it top
03:49bins in training I've just said that let's be honest that I say is it there's
03:53shots that we had on that goal in the first half of a powder puff and then he
03:57just about reached the target and the one that frustrated me the most is
04:00probably Hacks had maybe 15 yards more to travel and he tried to shoot from the
04:05edge of the box and it's those where if you do it in training when there's no one
04:09watch it and it's easy when you've got just under 3,000 people here you kind of
04:13rush at things and you lack a little bit of composure but for him to get in those
04:17situations is the pleasing part I thought for 45 minutes he gave the right back a
04:22really difficult time and I think Lee Clark often probably showed his
04:25experience he took him off at half time and I thought it was a really shrewd move
04:28because he kept him a little bit more quiet in the second half the
04:30substitution so no I didn't feel like we were far away at all I think there's a lot of
04:35positives to take in what's a negative result and the lads in there
04:39they're hurting which is good because it shows that they care and and we have to
04:43just roll our sleeves up and move on slightly different week to last you'll
04:47have National League Cup where some of your players who haven't had as much
04:50game time possibly even including yourself and get some some time out on the
04:54pitch
05:02what we would like you to do is just look ahead to next Saturday
05:05Kidderminster away they've lost one they've won one so the same as the shots
05:10and I know you'll respect all your opposition but somewhere that I
05:14definitely remember once in my deep dark memory you've got some happy memories
05:19I have obviously my first goal therefore shot my debut I went there a couple of
05:23years ago with Slough and got it totally wrong it's probably the biggest mistake I've
05:26made in my management career so far went up against Phil Brown and tried to play
05:31football out from the back and it didn't work we lost 4-0 but now they've got a
05:35manager there that's a really good friend of mine one of my best mates in
05:38football speak to him three or four times a week and so we probably know a lot
05:41about each other's sort of style of play and philosophy if you want to call it
05:45that and so yeah it'll be a tough game there's there's no rollovers against a
05:49Paul Wattentide he always has some bang at it and we'll need to be exactly that so I
05:54think one thing that we did probably lack today is John Gilbert when he went off a
05:57four wasn't it it wasn't quite the birthday he wanted was it no it's not
06:00actually his birthday either so it says on flash score apparently this is
06:03birthday but his birthday's in April and so that's good news yeah but I think we
06:08we still played with a tempo and intensity I said but I still think we
06:11probably would have been better for him being in there because his work rate is
06:14just through the roof so we've had to deal with a little bit of adversity there
06:17and I'm hoping he'll be back fit for next week but yeah like I said next week's
06:21another opportunity and that's what it is we will always think about always talk
06:25about trying to stay ahead points wise in terms of games played because you know
06:29then you're on track and you want to get to that 50 point mark as quickly as you
06:32can right so yeah I'll still be upbeat come Monday morning we've got a game on
06:37Tuesday and then we roll into Kitty next week
06:39thanks
