00:00Justin and Jenny welcome you to the Stripey Oss and here are Justin and Jenny in the Stripey Oss.
00:05How are you doing guys? Good, good. Thank you.
00:06So talk us through your venture into this world of the micro pub.
00:11This was a decorating kind of shop at one point, wasn't it?
00:14That's right, it was. Unfortunately that didn't kind of work out.
00:18We've competed with, like I said, the bigger places.
00:22So we had to close the doors on that and Jenny came up with the fabulous idea of a micro bar.
00:28So when she suggested, I mean, you'd have thought it was probably your idea, but Jenny's the big drinker.
00:35So when she said it, were you straight away, yeah, or were you like, what are you crazy?
00:39No, I was keen, but like I said, it's not something that we've ever had around here, so I was a little bit dubious.
00:46And all I thought about it, I just thought it would be good.
00:49It would be good to have something like that in the area.
00:51Yeah. So yeah, so yeah, like I said.
00:54You've kitted it all out yourself, Jenny.
00:56You've done all that woodwork and brickwork on the wall.
00:59I am.
01:00Well done.
01:01And just talk us through the name, the Strypios then.
01:05It was called that before, wasn't it, when it was the decorating thing?
01:08It was, yeah.
01:09Obviously, you know, Black Country through and through, born and bred in Gornal.
01:14So the Strypios, as we all know, is a zebra.
01:16Yeah.
01:17And with it being a paint shop previously, again, like a painted os, so that was where the name had come from.
01:23It was my mum who actually mentioned it in jest.
01:25Yeah, yeah.
01:26At the minute she mentioned it, I jumped all over it.
01:28It's good, isn't it?
01:28Yeah.
01:29And we loved the name, quite to say, because unfortunately it didn't work before, but things happen for a reason.
01:33Yeah, yeah.
01:33It is now what it is.
01:34And we always said we was going to keep the name, because it just fits well for the purpose we feel.
01:39Yeah.
01:39That's good.
01:40Good name.
01:41It's one of them that you remember, you know what I mean?
01:43And it looks great in here.
01:45And you were saying it just brings like a little point to the community where people can come in and they end, you know, before you know it, they've ended up chatting to each other.
01:54And you were on about a couple the other day.
01:55They're sitting, one sitting one side, one sitting the other.
01:59Turns out they live one street away and then they're left nattering.
02:02Yeah, yeah, definitely.
02:03Like I said, it was a lovely retired couple who'd come in a couple of times a week.
02:07And then there was a younger couple who was on a day off from work.
02:10And yeah, they ended up sitting together.
02:13And they live a street away from each other.
02:14Probably passed each other in Tesco many times.
02:17Yeah.
02:18And they're friends.
02:19So whenever they see each other now, you know, that's the aspect which is so nice when you see that.
02:23Cool.
02:24So we've got, go on, talk us through the beers we've got then.
02:27That's Jenny's job.
02:28Jenny.
02:28Oh, you've got Thatcher's Hayes on draft.
02:30That's a good shout.
02:30We have Thatcher's Hayes, we've got Madre and Carlin.
02:34This is going down very well.
02:35Yeah.
02:36Alpacalypse and IPA.
02:38Cool.
02:38And at the back there, you still, you know, because you've only been open a few weeks,
02:44didn't you?
02:44Two weeks, yes.
02:45Little room at the back there, which hopefully, what you're thinking, you know, little games
02:49room, darts board, vintage arcade.
02:52Yeah.
02:53Yeah.
02:53That's what we're working on at present.
02:55So that should be done in the next week.
02:56And then there's a patch of grass out the back.
02:59I mean, you know, obviously you'd have to tick the boxes, but you're thinking, wouldn't
03:04that make a lovely little spot to sit out in the summer?
03:06Definitely.
03:07Definitely.
03:08When the nice weather comes along.
03:11But obviously, like I say, we've spoken to various people, so we'll see how that goes.
03:15Yeah, yeah.
03:16And you've still got, you know, other jobs, haven't you?
03:19Decorating, working at the school.
03:21So how are you finding juggling?
03:23Tiring.
03:24Yeah, yeah.
03:25Yeah, very tiring, but it's worth it.
03:28It's enjoyable.
03:29Yeah.
03:29And what's been the feedback from people who've been coming in?
03:33Brilliant.
03:33It's been lovely, yeah.
03:34We've had some really good feedback.
03:35Yeah, well, everybody who comes in, just, you know, in terms of the decor, which is, from
03:41day one, we had a vision of what we wanted to achieve.
03:43Yeah.
03:44You know, and actually, I do think we've mastered that.
03:48And the majority of it has been Jenny.
03:50I mean, like, you know, the tables and the chairs, all sourced by Jenny.
03:53You know, the same as the timber and the brick idea.
03:56You know, the metal was mine, by the way.
03:58Yeah, yeah.
03:59But, no, it's, you know, it's great.
04:01Yeah, you've got some errors in that, haven't you?
04:03We've got some.
04:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
04:06Well, fair play to you guys.
04:08Great name, great looking place, and, yeah, wish you continued success with it.
04:13Destroy Pios.
04:14Get yourselves down, guys.
04:15It's a little problem.
04:16Look up.
04:16Look up.
04:18And, yeah.
04:19Yeah.
04:19Alright.
04:21Yeah.
