A group of mixed martial artists are once again making a call for more recognition to the sport of mixed martial arts. The Mixed Martial Arts Association is setting their sights on the World Championships. They've been sending athletes abroad as a build up for the tournament through their own pockets. Now, it seems they are ready to have the conversation once again with the government as it pertains to fully recognizing mixed martial arts in T&T.

00:00Well, 12 local mixed martial artists saw favorable results after competing in the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts Pan
00:08-American Championship in Colombia.
00:10The team returned last evening. The coaching staff was pleased with their performance.
00:15All thanks be to God for taking us over there on our own accord and being able to compete with
00:20the highest level of competition.
00:21Taking 12 athletes, as Sensei Grant had said, coming back with 12 medals, all athletes made the podium.
00:28It's just a fantastic experience to see these young athletes train so hard and then come out with some sort
00:34of recognition for that hard training.
00:37The sport of mixed martial arts has struggled to acquire recognition in TNT, but they believe the best way to
00:43convince those in power is to bring home medals.
00:46We would have done an amazing job with what we have here in Trinidad and Tobago.
00:52And of course, we're going to continue pursuing the government, of course, the Ministry of Sport, to assist and fund
01:00this team, this national team going forward.
01:04Their next objective is to compete at the World Championships of Mixed Martial Arts.
