00:00Qualifying for the Pan American Junior Artistic Gymnastics Cup was an achievement in itself.
00:05The local athletes competed in the all-around division, showing that there are rewards for
00:10hard work.
00:11Shanika Joseph from Tuts & Tumblrs Gymnastics Club competed in the Pago Hopes level 2 division,
00:16while Asia Ali, Zariah Gittins-Dupwell and Kaylee LaRoche all from Olympia Wolfpack competed
00:23in the level 1 division.
00:25Coach Clifton McDowell, out of Tuts & Tumblrs, wanted the athletes to avoid the elaborate
00:30skills moving forward.
00:31I think what we need to do is try to be more clean, right?
00:36Don't try to just do the big skills, try to do what is required, and be clean, and just
00:41do, once we do that, we will be fine.
00:44Dupwell enjoyed herself on the floor.
00:46The floor, because I took every skill and I pointed my toes.
00:52But it seems that the build-up to the competition was not much easier for the likes of Joseph,
00:56who turns her attention to Karifta.
00:58Trading before competition was, it was kind of hard and I wasn't getting my bars, and everything
01:07else was alright.
01:09What is your next competition?
01:12My next competition is here in Trinidad, Karifta Games.
01:15And what are you hoping to achieve there?
01:18I'm hoping to place on all events and do my best.
01:23Shanika's mother, Kanika Joseph, believes she has what it takes to go further.
01:27Well, Shanika has been progressing.
01:29Shanika started off since two and a half years, and she has been qualifying for each competition,
01:36whether it be locally, regionally, or internationally.
01:42So I have felt, and we are very confident that she will continue to perform at the best
01:48of her ability.
01:49Thank you all, Mr. Jodufo.
01:49The floor, TV's Export.
