00:05You come off that Western Michigan last second win,
00:08and then you have to play Oklahoma at home.
00:11They're in the big house with a lot of people with question marks on the
00:14program, Bryce Underwood as well.
00:17What was your takeaway when you saw some of the stuff that came out?
00:20I mean, especially the way they won that football game,
00:23they won being physical at the point of attack.
00:27Yeah, and we knew ultimately that Michigan's defense is good.
00:31Like, we know that.
00:32The cornerbacks are really good, kind of won them the game probably.
00:35But I think we learned for Michigan's offense that they're not going to be
00:40able to throw the ball around against really good defenses.
00:43They won this game because Bryce Underwood kind of became a fullback,
00:47and they ran him a lot.
00:48They called a lot of quarterback design runs,
00:50and he was able to scramble quite a bit.
00:52It's what Utah did last year with Devin Dampere.
00:55Now that Utah staff is over at Michigan.
00:57So, I mean, Bryce Underwood still didn't throw the ball great,
01:01but they're just going to have to find different ways to win,
01:04run the ball with Underwood, win with defense.
01:07You know, does that get you in the playoff?
01:09Probably not.
01:10They've got a tough schedule still to come,
01:12but they've got life again, and they're 2-0.
01:14So how much can you be too upset about it?
01:17Chris, do you agree that this really comes down to Kyle Whittingham,
01:20then, understanding who the quarterback is?
01:23I mean, in the first game against Western Michigan,
01:26they tried to throw the ball all over the yard,
01:28and all of a sudden in the second game, they decided,
01:32well, this guy's a better runner here.
01:34It's kind of finding out who your personnel is a little bit.
01:37So this goes to the coach there also, too,
01:40revamping that offense to fit the kid's skill set, no?
01:45Yeah, it's Whittingham, it's offensive coordinator Jason Beck,
01:47who were together at Utah last year.
01:49And Utah was near the top of the country last year
01:52in called quarterback runs,
01:55and I think we are probably going to see that more.
01:58He didn't come out of this game thinking, like,
01:59Underwood has figured it out.
02:01He completed 50% of his passes.
02:03And Oklahoma's a really good defense, like, no doubt.
02:05But Michigan's going to play a lot of really good defenses this season.
02:09And so Underwood, his legs, he's one of those guys,
02:12he takes such long strides, like Vince Young,
02:15where it doesn't look like he's running fast,
02:17but suddenly he's five yards upfield before you know it.
02:20And I think both quarterbacks in this game struggled.
02:23Mateer struggled, Underwood struggled,
02:25but you could see the athletic difference
02:28that when Mateer would take off and run,
02:30you know, he wasn't falling forward three yards
02:33like the way Bryce Underwood was,
02:35getting those extra yards,
02:36and it ultimately made a big difference in the game.
02:39So Bryce Underwood's probably going to have to run the ball a lot.
02:41Hope he can physically hold up.
02:43He's a big guy.
