00:00The Michigan game, Western Michigan controlling the line of scrimmage to a certain degree, like, yeah, Michigan won on a
00:06Hail Mary at the end, and we'll get to the clock portion of it.
00:09But that is not the team that I thought I would see from Kyle Whittingham going out there and playing.
00:16Right. I thought they would be sharper in the opener, and it looked like it would be that way after
00:21the first drive, a well-scripted first drive.
00:24I think Underwood hits his first five passes, but Western Michigan, it reminded me, I covered this game years ago
00:31when they, Michigan played Army up there, and it was a very similar game where Army kind of controlled the
00:39line of scrimmage, and Army controlled the rushing attack.
00:41Now Army has their own style, but Western Michigan had a 20-play drive in the game where they were
00:46patient.
00:46Their quarterback didn't, they didn't take too many chances down the field.
00:50Very impressed with the way they played defensively, especially in the secondary.
00:54Bryce Underwood, he had a rough day, and I think some of it had to do with that Western Michigan
01:00secondary, the way that they played.
01:02Their safeties are really good.
01:04Lance Taylor coached with a lot of energy.
01:07They just, it's a, the shame of it is that a team that won the game on the field, essentially,
01:14and we can get into the mechanics at the end of the game.
01:17They did everything but win the game, because the story would have been, had that Hail Mary not been completed,
01:25that Western Michigan complete game, look at them as a G6 buster.
01:29I still think they can be, and Lance Taylor's just a phenomenal coach, because they, they did out scheme, out
01:35play, out hustle Michigan for four quarters.
01:40Yeah, and it sucks, because you want to see the team that had the better game win, win, but Michigan
01:44ends up winning.
01:46But kind of a bigger picture here, what do you see them doing the rest of the year?
01:50Because it seemed like they had absolutely nothing to lean on offensively, because of course, Bryce Underwood didn't perform.
01:55But something that's always a Michigan staple is running the ball, and it seemed like if they could just never
01:59get that going,
02:00and you're going to be going up against a Venables defense next week, you've got a very hard schedule going
02:05against Ohio State
02:06and all these other teams, how are they going to be able to compete on the offensive side
02:10and give their defense a chance, which is still always good?
02:13The offensive line wasn't as good as I thought it might be.
02:17They were behind schedule.
02:19I still, other than Buchanan at receiver, I'm not sure how dynamic they are at that position.
02:24Couldn't get the freshman hider going.
02:27So they, yeah, they have a long checklist of things to get going on offense.
02:31Now, I do think they will improve on that side of the ball.
02:34But the question still is Underwood, and how real does this question become this week?
02:39You saw Monday, Kyle Whittingham didn't exactly give him a strong vote of confidence.
02:44He said the position's not infinite, which we know that.
02:48I think there's going to be some calls for Tommy Carr to at least get a look.
02:53You know, one thing I do think might happen this week is that they'll use the breath of fresh air
03:00or whatever,
03:00the victory, and I think they will compete against Oklahoma.
03:04But if they play the way that they did Saturday, they'll get beat handily by the Sooners.
03:10So there's a long checklist for Bryce.
03:12And if Bryce Underwood doesn't complete that Hail Mary, I think we're still talking about him
03:16in an even more negative tone today as far as that quarterback position goes at Michigan.
