Willard and Dibs hope that people don't blame the Rams' loss to the 49ers on their travel decisions. That takes away from what the 49ers did.

00:00I want to get one rant off my chest.
00:02This was almost my what's bugging.
00:04It's a rant?
00:05Well, it's not a resume quick.
00:07I don't like hearing everybody saying that Sean McVay and the Rams messed up their travel.
00:19They might be right, but I don't like it because it feels disrespectful to me
00:25to the game that the 49ers just played.
00:27In other words, if you're screaming and pointing at McVay and going like Greg Cosell,
00:36idiot, idiot for going out there so late,
00:39you're basically saying that you think travel beat the Rams, not the 49ers beat the Rams.
00:46There is so much adrenaline in that game.
00:48I can't tell you that the travel didn't affect them negatively.
00:51Maybe it did.
00:52But to me, that is almost an extension of what led us down draftisms hole.
01:00In other words, you decided in the offseason that the Rams were the best team.
01:06Then they come out.
01:07They're not even the same class as the team they're playing against on that given night.
01:12So now you've got to come up with a reason as to why they weren't good.
01:17What if we try?
01:18The Niners kicked their ass.
01:21They had better players.
01:22They had a better game plan.
01:24They had a better everything.
01:27And then we can, on some level, put the travel into it.
01:30But if that's your first answer, I don't love the way that sounds.
01:34It makes it sound like you're trying to find an excuse because you still know that the Rams are the
01:39better team.
01:40And maybe they will be eventually.
01:42It's only one game.
01:43But last night, they weren't even close.
01:45Outclassed in every way, shape, or form.
01:48The entire night in all phases of the game.
01:50I'm not blaming that on a plane.
01:52So that's all.
01:53I just want to get that out.
01:55It's a good rant.
01:55And I appreciate it.
01:57And I'm going to wait and see what happens next week when they host the Giants back at home.
02:02To determine whether or not they actually were wise or smart to do that.
02:07Because I do think that the Rams thought that they would approach it this way in order to not mess
02:13up week two, three, four.
02:15And I don't even know how many games beyond that.
02:18So it was almost like, you know what?
02:20We're not going to sacrifice the back end of the travel based on what we're going to do.
02:25So we're going to go ahead and just try to get in.
02:27You know, we're going to try and make adrenaline.
02:29That's the thing that works.
02:30And, you know, all credit to the Niners.
02:32They were better than us in all three phases and all three aspects and all the rest of it.
02:36I do think that they did this based on the fact that they wanted week two, three, and four to
02:42be different.
02:42You might be right.
02:43You might be right.
02:44My personal take as someone who's never done this.
02:47I've never done the cross-world travel.
02:49Europe is as far as I've gone.
02:52I don't think you can outrun jet lag.
02:54Like, that's just my take.
02:56Are the Niners going to be just dragging ass when they get home, whenever the hell they get home?
03:00Is it tomorrow?
03:01Is it tonight?
03:02I don't even know when they land.
03:04It's yesterday.
03:04Whatever.
03:04It's the past.
03:06They just came from the future.
03:07I don't know what's going on.
03:08Are the Niners going to be dragging?
03:10Yeah.
03:11You're telling me the Rams won't be?
03:12I don't buy it.
03:14Like, you're going to be dragging, dog.
03:16You went halfway across the world and messed your body up.
03:19I don't know if you can outrun it.
03:21So, but I don't know.
03:23How will this look week two, week three, week four?
03:25To me, that rings the same way.
03:28Same thing.
03:28When people are like, actually, the Rams are still the smart ones.
03:32Wait until you see what this looks like week four.
03:35Come on.
03:36Come on.
03:37Like, if you went to Australia and this is still bothering you three weeks from now, something's wrong.
03:44I don't, like, I'm not, by the way, I'm not giving the Niners that excuse.
03:48You don't get to come out nine days from now and look crap against the Dolphins and then blame Australia.
03:55Life comes at you fast.
03:57You'll come home.
03:58You got plenty of time to rest.
03:59Right.
04:00So, you don't need to practice until next Wednesday.
04:02You guys are fine.
04:04You're fine.
04:05And I think that they probably will land sometime tonight.
04:08Tonight, probably, right?
04:09I mean, based on, and I think we did this before, I think the flight is ultimately a 15-minute
04:14flight
04:14from the time you take off to the actual time you land.
04:18All right.
04:18So, if they, you know, took off last night, let's just say they took off, well, not last
04:22night, but yesterday, let's say they took off at, like, four.
04:25Yeah, game ends at, like, two.
04:26What's the process to gather?
04:27Probably five o'clock.
04:28Five or six, yeah.
04:28Gather everybody and get to the airport, I would think, at least.
04:31That's a hell of a traveling party, and people need showers.
04:33Well, let's just say it's 7 p.m.
04:35Yeah.
04:35By the time you go, wheels up, and you're in the air, so that means you get home tonight at,
04:40like,
04:40645.
04:41Sure.
04:41On Friday, well, Saturday is like, oh, my God, and Sunday, where are we?
04:467 hours of, you know, after box, and then you watch the Monday game, and then you get
04:51back to practice, and you still have some time until your next game.
04:54Yeah.
04:56Actually, Grandy and Pasta, you guys could probably do the, what's those little gizmos
05:00in the apps now that can track the flights?
05:02Probably see where the teams are right now.
05:04So, see if we can find out where they are right now.
05:06I have no idea who left when and when they're getting back.
05:08We're already back, actually.
05:09We left in the third quarter.
05:11I don't know if you noticed, but we put Sterling Bennett in, and we let him quarterback, and
05:16so we went ahead and took off.
05:17That's right.
05:18Stafford wasn't even there.
05:20So, I'm saying Miles Garrett was never even there.
05:22He didn't record any stats.
05:23You know that Puka Nakua had more tackles than Miles Garrett.
05:27I do.
05:28Which, to me, is one of the most unbelievable Australian footnotes of this whole thing.
05:33Old man Trent, get yourself a big, tall one.
05:36On the way home, you earned it.
05:39You took Miles Garrett out of the football game entirely.
05:45Non-factor.
05:46Yeah.
05:47Wow.
05:48What a job.
05:49Wow.
05:49Wow.
05:50And they didn't even really, like, set about chipping him much?
05:53Nope.
05:54They just kind of said...
05:55He didn't have to.
05:55He didn't do anything.
05:56Right.
05:56He didn't offer, like, a second pitch.
05:59None of them did anything.
06:00Brock got pressured four times, and...
06:04Clean jersey, bro.
06:05Yeah, and the second longest play from scrimmage for the Niners was the Brock Purdy scramble
06:10a lie, the one where he goes for 19 yards and did that...
06:13I don't know what the dance is.
06:14It felt a little too much like Shohei Otani for me.
06:17Text line says the Niners are landing here within the hour.
06:20Okay.
06:21So, somewhere in the next...
06:23Some people are saying 20 minutes.
06:24Some people are saying 45.
06:2545, but sounds like they're almost home.
06:28Great.
06:28They're almost home.
06:29I love it.
06:30Oh, one more.
06:31One more.
06:32Can I rub your face in it?
06:33The Rams, with their sleepy celebration?
06:37That's funny.
06:39Boy.
06:39What sleepy celebration?
06:41When they picked off Brock Purdy, they all ran to the end zone and laid down and pretended
06:45to take a nap.
06:46Gotcha.
06:46As if they were saying, did you think we were all tired?
06:49Yeah, we do.
06:50Because you never had a good play the rest of the entire night, defense.
06:54Not another good play the rest of the night.
06:57So, that was an ill-time celebration for the Rams.
06:59That was funny.
07:00It was a premature celebration sensation is what it was.
07:04All right, people.
07:05Here we go.
07:06What an awful throw from your guy.
07:07Oh, my God.
07:08No, he didn't see him.
07:09It was a bad throw.
07:10And Tittle even joked about it in the postgame.
07:12He's like, yeah, I mean, he threw it into quadruple coverage, but keep doing that, Brock,
07:16because, you know, I like when you throw it my way, but, you know, it's pretty funny.
07:20Yeah, like, look, I don't like doing that.
07:24Like, George Kittle had a drop.
07:25Mike Evans had a drop.
07:26Like, these guys are going to, Brock Purdy's going to throw some picks.
07:28That's okay.
07:29Drake May threw three of them in the fourth quarter.
07:32Are we cutting the guy?
07:33Are we not doing a contract now?
07:35Like, Brock Purdy was fantastic last night.
07:37That throw sucked.
07:38We're going to have some of those.
07:40Matt Stafford had some throws that sucked.
07:42That's my fantasy quarterback.
07:45That's your quarterback.
07:45That's my quarterback.
07:46I like that.
07:48Lovely Christy had Brock, too.
07:49And, boy, was she.
07:50I actually, she was leaning a little too much into the fantasy talk last night.
07:54A little too much.
07:56I'm like, this is a Niner game.
07:58Right.
07:58Niner game.
08:00I don't care how they score the touchdown.
08:02I don't want to hear, like, we got to throw it in.
08:04No, no, no, no, no, no.
08:05We're scoring.
08:06I don't care who scores.
08:09But it was week one, and it was her first experience with it.
08:12So, I kind of just let it breathe.
08:14That's a good husband right there.
08:15I let it breathe.
08:16But if we're doing this week 11 when the Niners are, like, 9-1 or something, I'm going to probably
08:20excuse myself.
08:23Like, McCaffrey can run the ball in.
08:24It's okay.
08:25No, he can't.
08:26He needs to see it.
08:28That's okay.
08:29Let's go to Jonathan.
08:30In the nut, Dibs.
08:32Yeah.
08:33Come on, Jonathan.
08:34Talk to us.
08:35Thanks for calling.
08:35What's up?
08:37Oh, it's just a Beration sensation down here in the nut, Mr. Willard and Dibs.
08:42Nice.
08:42I got to say, man, as an Army veteran myself, Beration sensation made the kid.
08:49And I got to tell you, some people fold, and some people name, you know, Renardo Green.
08:53Just go ahead and get a pick, baby.
08:55That's just what happens.
08:57It makes or breaks you.
08:57And that man said, all right, watch what happens next season.
09:01And Trent Williams, if you're listening, and I know you are, I know you're going to go on
09:04Odyssey and listen to the podcast of this because you wouldn't miss Willard and Dibs, because
09:08who would?
09:08Good point.
09:09I owe you an apology, baby, from Jonathan out in the nut.
09:13I'm sorry.
09:14I told people you were cooked.
09:16You're old.
09:17You're out of your days.
09:18No, yesterday, I was a fool.
09:21I eat my words, Mr. Trent Williams.
09:23You made that man look like a joke all week, did we hear about, you know, oh, wait till
09:28Miles Garrett.
09:29Wait till Miles Garrett.
09:30Trent Williams said, Miles who?
09:31And I just love that, what you just said, Willard.
09:34That first thing after yesterday, because I was watching it, shout out to all the cheer
09:39dads and cheer moms out there in cheerleading season.
09:42We had the iPad out, and nobody really had the Niner gear on that brought out the iPad,
09:47but the talk of the week and just all this buildup was to this game.
09:51And honestly, some of the parents said, I'm not really a fan of either, but I want to watch
09:56this.
09:56And thank God it was on Netflix, so it made it really easy to pull out the iPad.
10:00And there we were at cheer practice all behind a little screen and just really watching the
10:05first half.
10:05Man, I got to say, I was a little scared on certain plays.
10:09The throws into traffic, I was like, oh, no, are we seeing the same thing?
10:14That Debo drop, you know?
10:16I'm like, oh, no.
10:17And then the D line and just the injury, I started to think like, oh, my goodness.
10:22And then whatever that was in the second half, I don't know if they had the Space Jam, you
10:28know, Michael Jordan speech, but they definitely turned it around and pulled off a miracle and
10:33just looked like a whole different team.
10:35And the first thing I said after the game, too, Willard, was this isn't about don't you
10:39dare put this on, you know, some kind of, well, we didn't travel right.
10:44So that was a clinic.
10:46That was a show.
10:48Kyle and team put on a show and the world watched.
10:51And another thing I want to say is just the way they handled everything from media week
10:55and getting out there and people go, why do the 49ers travel well?
10:59Why is there 49ers fans everywhere?
11:01Bandwagon, bandwagon.
11:02No, they just proved in Australia, this is why the 49ers are America's team right now.
11:07And everybody loves it.
11:09You don't have to force it on anybody.
11:11If honestly, you would think that people wouldn't like this team, but you got George Kittle,
11:15you got, you know, just all of these characters that people love.
11:19And it's just a product that is hot right now.
11:22I think a lot of us were skeptical.
11:23And I know it's only game one.
11:25Slow your roll.
11:26Yeah, right.
11:26I ain't slowing my roll today.
11:28Hey, I'm going to be as loud and obnoxious and as excited as I can be because, again, football is
11:33week to week.
11:33Let's see what they do next week.
11:35But I honestly, I can sleep a little easier tonight and get ready for the next game than I would
11:40have if it looked like the first half.
11:42Jonathan, super strong call, man.
11:44Thanks.
11:45And enjoy it.
11:46And he brings up, you said this about 20 minutes ago.
11:50Fans of other teams won't agree because that's not the way we look at the world.
11:54But this team has a likability quotient that is off of the damn charts.
12:00And you could really feel it last night, not only because of the week-long buildup and all of the
12:06ambassadorship that they did,
12:08but because it did feel there was the return of Debo, the return of Dre Greenlaw, the return of guys
12:14from injury.
12:15And it very much did have a feel of the 49er band is back together.
12:21It was not a coming out party.
12:24It was like a reunion.
12:27It was like a regurgitation sensation is what it was.
12:29That's about it.
12:30It brought it back.
12:31And I mean, I think if you're a Niner fan, you inject that into your veins.
12:35No doubt.
12:36That's a drug.
12:37And today is a day where you can get over your skis.
12:40You can overreact.
12:42That's my opinion anyway.
12:43And I know some people are like, let's tamp it down.
12:46It's just one game.
12:47Yes, it's just one game.
12:49But if there are no ties at the end of Monday, there will be 16 teams that are 1-0
12:54and 16 teams that are 0-1.
12:57And so you as a 1-0 team can start to think about, yeah, we're 1-0, like bang, bang,
13:02Niner game.
13:02And we can start to, that's what my daughter says.
13:05Explain what that is.
13:05That's amazing.
13:06She says bang, bang, Niner game.
13:08And I will not correct her.
13:09I love it.
13:10It's hilarious.
13:11It's what we should all say when all games kick off.
13:14Right.
13:14Bang, bang, Niner game.
13:15And she wanted to yuck in last night, and so we did.
13:19And so, you know, we got a healthy portion of the third quarter, daddy-daughter time.
13:23And I know your daughter who's 17, like, you're cherishing those moments.
13:27Locked in.
13:28Because, I mean, coming up in whatever months, like, she's going to be probably elsewhere.
13:33No, this is probably our, this is our last season possibly together.
13:37Of bang, bang, Niner game.
13:38Yeah, exactly.
13:38And so, you know, it's a thing.
13:40So, whatever, if you want to say, like, slow your roll, you can do that.
13:44I'm not slowing my roll because I'm basking in yesterday.
13:47And that felt to me like a baseball team where your starter goes out and throws a one-hitter
13:53and you won 8-0.
13:54Like, that was a gem.
13:56It was an absolute gem.
13:57It was a joyous night, and I'm with you.
13:59You don't have to slow your roll as long as you're keeping in perspective what it was
14:03that just happened.
14:03The Niners didn't win the Super Bowl, but there's no reason to tap the brakes on the
14:09joy that last night brought.
14:11They were in a standalone, much-discussed game against a team that won the offseason, and
14:18they went out there and they blew them off the field.
14:22Three-touchdown victory.
14:23That's ridiculous.
14:25They beat the spread by 24 points.
14:27Like, oh, my God.
14:29They absolutely crushed on all levels.
14:32And I do think what we forget, because, and this is what we talked about so much in the
14:37offseason, what's tough is that the Niners deal with the injury issue so often that fans
14:44have a hard time remembering that when they are on the field, when that group plays, that's
14:53the best group in football over the last, whatever, five, six years, right next to the Chiefs,
15:00I would say, in terms of just the consistency of performance when that group's together.
15:05They're not always together.
15:06So the Chiefs have had a lot more success.
15:09But when that group is together, I think you've got to take a moment and go, how many of these
15:14people are going to be in the Hall of Fame?
15:16Like, I know the offense is old, but then go, okay, McCaffrey.
15:20Yeah.
15:20Yes.
15:20For sure.
15:21Kittle.
15:22Yes.
15:22Most likely.
15:23Trent Williams.
15:24Yes.
15:24Automatic.
15:25Mike Evans.
15:26Yes.
15:26Oh, yeah.
15:26How about Kyle Juszczyk?
15:29Positionally, maybe.
15:30I mean, fullbacks don't get that level of love.
15:32I know.
15:32I know, Lorenzo Neal.
15:33But like, he's a maybe.
15:35He's a maybe.
15:37And then you start.
15:39Well, like Trent, George, Mike, and Christian.
15:41Okay.
15:42Kukush.
15:43Right.
15:43I'll go ahead and lock those up.
15:44And then play on defense.
15:46Fred.
15:46Yes.
15:47For sure.
15:47Nick Bosa.
15:48Maybe.
15:48He's tracking.
15:49Yeah, tracking.
15:50And I mean, like.
15:51I need to have a few more good years, to be honest.
15:53It's like, you forget that when they're healthy, they're so talented.
15:59Right.
16:00Like, I don't want to hear about, ooh, that roster's scary.
16:02When this roster's healthy, it is as scary as anything in the NFL.
16:09But if you even want to play the game with the Rams, like Stafford, for sure.
16:13For sure.
16:14Donald and Garrett, for sure.
16:16Absolutely.
16:16Devontae Adams, yes.
16:17Yes.
16:18And Puka's on an early track.
16:20He's on the same track that you could, you know, look at for other people.
16:23Like longevity.
16:24Long way to go.
16:25Sure.
16:25Like, I think George Kittle has a certain amount of longevity that he needs as well.
16:30But, you know, beyond that, I don't know who on the Rams, and I'm not well-versed enough
16:35in their roster to, like, really project out.
16:38I mean, could Trent McDuffie be a conversation someday, maybe?
16:40Exactly.
16:41Someday.
16:42But you're looking at, you know, six Niners that are pretty certain, and then four Rams,
16:46and so we talk about, oh, this amazing Rams roster.
16:49Well, the Niners, like you said, if healthy, and, you know, thoughts and concerns to Dajon
16:55Stribling and, you know, the high ankle and whatnot.
16:59And you've pointed out stats, this will really get everybody pissed off, because it's way
17:03too early to have it.
17:04But if Brock Purdy does what he currently does for another 10 years, he will also be a Hall
17:09of Famer.
17:09If he does what he has currently done for 10 more years, he will be a gold jacket guy.
17:17Period.
17:18Man, it's a lot more inflammatory coming from you.
17:22I love that.
17:23I mean.
17:24As the president of Brockistan.
17:25What are we now?
17:26How many pass attempts did he have last night?
17:28He had, I think, 34.
17:31Okay, so now we need about 115 more to go.
17:35Something like that.
17:35Before he's the highest rated quarterback in the history of the NFL.
17:38Go ahead.
17:39Keep that out of the Hall of Fame if he does it for another decade, which is a monstrous
17:43if.
17:44But he threw a pick, Mark, and his quarterback rating was 105.6.
17:49Even with the pick, his QB rating, and I know it's not a perfect stat, but his quarterback
17:54rating was still, I think 105.6 is about where he is for his career.
17:59For his career, right.
18:00Which is a tremendously high number.
18:02He had three touchdown passes after the pick.
18:04Yeah.
18:04Yeah.
