00:00but a lot on the deadline that wasn't.
00:03And, like, no, I'm not going to come in here.
00:08I'm not screaming hot about this because I didn't expect the Niners to do something.
00:14How many days in a row have I said, first, second, third-round draft picks are off the table?
00:18We're not doing that.
00:20And I don't want you to just do something for the sake of doing it.
00:24I don't want some sort of a figurehead move.
00:26But I sort of like the way you said it yesterday.
00:31You know what you needed today?
00:32A human being.
00:34You need another human being on the defensive line.
00:37And I do think that there is an emotional message that gets sent to a locker room
00:43that has done an unbelievable job to be 6-3 through everything they've experienced.
00:48So, yeah, color me disappointed that the 49ers went silent on Tuesday, November 4th.
00:55They didn't want to go top of the market, which Quinton Williams was very expensive.
00:58And even, you know, Bradley Chubb, there was talk about the Dolphins shopping him,
01:03but the price was too high for many teams that wanted to go out there and get into that market.
01:08And so, yeah, as you get into Trey Hendrickson, there was no rumor, no whisper today about him possibly being out there.
01:16And so, if you're the Niners and you're not going to be in the top of the market, and I'm glad that they weren't,
01:21well, now you're looking at other teams' practice squads, and you're looking at other possible bodies you can find to bring in.
01:28And you've got practice squad guys of your own.
01:30You've got Bryce Huff hopefully coming back soon.
01:33You just got Keyon White.
01:35Cleland Furrell got a sack.
01:36Imagine that, a Niner who actually tackled the quarterback in the backfield.
01:40That was kind of fun.
01:41So, you do have reinforcements that you've already gotten.
01:45And if you're not going to go out there and make a really, really, really big splash,
01:49then just go ahead and wait, and now you can dumpster dive.
01:51Okay, but so we're assuming that no more injuries will happen on the defensive line for the rest of the year.
01:56They will happen.
01:57So, what are we doing?
01:58You're going to go to your own practice squad.
02:00You're going to go to other teams' practice squad, and you're going to sign people and bring in human beings
02:05who are 275 pounds or more and let them come in and wear Niner uniforms.
02:09But here's the real question, and this is what I think fans might be grappling with a little bit today.
02:16888-957-9570, the number.
02:20Did the 49ers, by the way, I'm going to go ahead and answer this, yes, already.
02:25But we'd love your answer.
02:28Did the 49ers signal today, we're not Super Bowl contenders this year?
02:35Math be damned, 6-3, whatever.
02:37They're telling you it's Super Bowl or try again.
02:40That's what this year is.
02:41Well, every year is that.
02:42Well, not last year.
02:43No.
02:44Because last year they lost about five or six starters, and so last year it really was bust.
02:49This year is really the epitome of what you talk about.
02:52This year, you're going to try again.
02:54You're not going to bring in somebody on a one-year rental and, darn it, we're going for it.
02:59You're not.
02:59You're keeping your picks, and you're going to keep your young core, and you're going to try like heck,
03:04and then you'll try again.
03:05No, see, I think what people feel today is that the Niners are not trying again.
03:09I think that's the issue.
03:11I don't think that people feel like the Niners are trying to win the Super Bowl this year.
03:15And the 49ers may privately say, exactly, exactly.
03:21You can't say that publicly because it just goes over like a barrel of rocks.
03:25You can't do that.
03:27And we don't like the word rebuild in a market like this, and we shouldn't.
03:31And I don't think that this is a rebuild.
03:33I don't think it's that.
03:34But there are adjustments that get made every year.
03:37There is strategy.
03:38There is an approach.
03:39And the 49ers approach has been as clear as day.
03:43Do you remember how we all felt during free agency?
03:46What was the feeling?
03:47Remember?
03:48Does everyone remember?
03:50Hey, Lynch, are you going to do something?
03:53No.
03:54And here we are again at the trade deadline.
03:57Well, they got Demarcus Robinson, right?
03:58Okay, sure.
03:58You know.
03:59I mean, yeah.
03:59Great.
04:00They got Demarcus Robinson.
04:01They got their.
04:02Sky Moore.
04:02Apparently, they've got their 8th and 9th receivers.
04:05Yep.
04:05Okay, great.
04:06Don't forget about Luke Farrell.
04:08The feeling over free agency was I can't believe how quiet the Niners have been.
04:15And they just did it again.
04:18And if you can't see the message, I think the clouds have dissipated, and it is clear as day.
04:25The 49ers are rebooting their finances on the defensive side of the football.
04:31They are not interested at all in putting future assets out the window so that they can go for it this year because this year is not really what it's all about.
04:43Like, hey, add a kid, slap on the butt Kyle Shanahan and Robert Sala because you're doing a great job by being 6-3 while you're both transitioning and beset by injuries.
04:55So that's incredible, but the 49ers are not going to change their philosophy come hell or high water, no matter how badly we want them to do it.
05:06And the truth of the matter is, is you had sat Kyle and Bob into a room before the year started and said, here's the list of people who will be injured this year.
05:15Many of them, like, overwhelmingly season-ending, Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, see you later, Mikel Williams, Brandon Iyuk's not coming back, Ricky Pearsall multiple games, Brock all but two, three games.
05:30Okay?
05:31And, oh, your No. 1 draft pick, gone, that's it, he'll miss the second half of the season.
05:36If we had told them that based on their preseason strategy, I don't think they would think they'd have more than two wins right now.
05:44But they have six.
05:47And that has not compelled them to change their strategy.
05:51It's because of what you talk about, process versus results.
05:53And it's hard for fans.
05:55It's hard for fans, but at the same time, if you really think that any of these additions would have changed their fortunes, like, let's say you got the Quinton Williams deal.
06:03You got Quinton Williams, which means you would have had to trade Kalia Davis, and a first, and a second.
06:09You get Quinton Williams.
06:11Okay, now, are we, we're going to be Super Bowl?
06:14No.
06:14You have three or four other holes, and that's what I've been thinking about this whole time.
06:18You're not a team that is one player away.
06:20You look at Indy.
06:22Indy lost Mooney Ward to a concussion in, like, preseason, not preseason, but pregame.
06:27Pregame, yeah.
06:28The weirdest thing ever.
06:29And they're like, whoa, we're really good.
06:31We need a corner.
06:32So you go out and you get sauce.
06:33Is he not coming back?
06:35What kind of concussion is this for Charverius Ward?
06:37He's on IR, so.
06:38Like, okay.
06:39I don't know how long he'll be out.
06:41Yeah, most of these guys.
06:42He's had multiple concussions, but it was so bad that they had to put him on the list, and so they need a corner.
06:47They're seven and two.
06:48They think that they're the team, and so you go out and you get sauce.
06:52And so that's what you do when you're a team like Seattle.
06:55They're thinking, you know what?
06:55We could use another receiver.
06:57We don't know about Cup or Coop, so let's go out and get a deep threat to go with JSN, who's really good.
07:02And we get cut back, and we feel like we're a team that could win this whole damn thing.
07:06The Niners are telling you they don't think that, and that's okay.
07:10I'm okay with it, because they're right.
07:13They're right to think that.
07:14I agree with you.
07:15I mean, as a fan, it's frustrating.
07:18It sucks.
07:18It does, but at the same time, I'd rather have them be sensible than, you know, throw a bunch of S at the wall and hope against hope that this is going to make the difference.
07:28Isn't there a middle ground to that?
07:30Like, yes.
07:30And that's what they've done, I think.
07:32I think they've done the middle ground.
07:34I don't, because of Mikel Williams and because of Yitor Grossmatos.
07:39I would agree with you if those two players were still playing football, but they're not.
07:44So you can't do, like, we got Keon White and Bryce Huff.
07:47Right, but you lost Grossmatos and Mikel Williams.
07:50So now you're back at a sum zero again, and you're sitting here incredibly thin on the defensive line.
07:57I don't want a dumpster dive.
07:59You're 6-3.
08:00In five days, the Rams will be here, and you have an opportunity to grab the division by the you-know-whats.
08:07You have that opportunity.
08:09You are one win away this weekend from being 4-0 in the division, from being 7-1 in the conference,
08:18and sitting there at minimum either atop the division or right alongside the Seattle Seahawks
08:24as you move into a stretch of schedule that gets friendly again after this game.
08:29Cardinals, Panthers, Browns.
08:32Like, you really have an opportunity.
08:35But the team doesn't really think so.
08:39Again, I get it.
08:41I would have loved a middle ground.
08:44That's all I'm saying.
08:45You've got to give these guys something.
08:47Listen, tell me that Trent Williams is like, yeah, yeah, we're building for next year.
08:52I wonder how that sits with Christian McCaffrey, who's got 500 touches already.
08:57You know what I mean?
08:58I wonder how that sits with Christian McCaffrey, who's got 500,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000
