00:00Why in the world would you buy in on this team?
00:03I'm perplexed here.
00:05So the market does in general like this team.
00:11There was a stretch where they were playing.
00:14This was pre-deadline, but they were still playing their sub-500 baseball
00:19and had the second best odds of any team in the American League
00:23to win a World Series in front of a team like the Tampa Bay Rays
00:27because of the pitching still having some pedigree, even if a down year.
00:31They played in the ALCS last year.
00:34Now, that respect in the market has dropped as their record has dropped.
00:38But the opportunity of their schedule was enticing.
00:43Teams have easy schedules.
00:44You actually have to still win the games.
00:47Well, what is on the plate for Seattle?
00:50Now, it is up to them to take advantage.
00:52But if you – and this was – so I took a snapshot, Craig, right?
00:56Maybe I placed the bet in the – it was the back end of August, give or take, right?
01:01Over the final 22 games for the Seattle Mariners, 17 of them were against,
01:08not bad teams, the literal three worst teams in baseball,
01:13in the Athletics seven times, Angels seven times,
01:17and then three games against the Rockies,
01:20with the other five games being against the teams they need to beat
01:24in the Rangers and Astros.
01:26Now, they're not going to go 22-0, as fun as that would be.
01:29But it is a team who is set up to sneak in, I believe,
01:35not only through the wild card.
01:37The division is live.
01:38And if Seattle gets in, you're going to be sitting on a very nice price.
01:43But I think they're one of the teams that if they get in, will –
01:47I think if the Baltimore Orioles get in, it's good for them.
01:50Nobody's picking Baltimore to win the American League.
01:53If Seattle gets in, I think there's a world they make noise.
01:58So how does this change the World Series outlook overall?
02:02Because Craig and I have been talking throughout the year,
02:04and really I would say that – Craig, I don't want to speak for you,
02:08but I would say almost 100% that you and I agree that the Yankees,
02:11the Rays, or the Red Sox will essentially 100% represent the AL
02:17when it comes to the World Series.
02:18One of those three teams is going to go through
02:20because those are the three best teams.
02:22If the Rays are going to not make it, they're going to have the bye
02:26and not make it, are the Mariners that pick to usurp them
02:29and take over the AL and really push, assuming they do end the season
02:33on a high note?
02:33So I think with the idea that one of that trio is obviously going to represent,
02:41unlike the – so the National League has a trio of Atlanta, Milwaukee, and L.A.
02:46The big difference is it is very, very likely that the NLCS will have two
02:54of those three teams in it, and there is almost no chance that happens
02:58in the American League due to the way the bracket is going to land here.
03:01The Rays will be the one seed, and then the Yankees and Red Sox
03:06will occupy the 4-5 in some order while whoever may – it does not matter
03:11if it is Red Sox, White Sox, and Chicago has home field.
03:15Any one of those three will be favorites in an ALCS,
03:18but I don't think they will be minus 250 favorites in an ALCS.
03:26And again, it's not the 100% pie that is available to a big three
03:32in the National League in comparison.
03:34So that's why I think there is some interest in can Seattle just sneak
03:38through the weaker AL portion?
03:41Because if they win the AL West and they were the three seed, right?
03:47I mean, who knows?
03:48Miracles happen.
03:49They're the two seed because it's not like Chicago has been given –
03:52it's not very likely they were to catch Chicago.
03:54But I'm just saying, like, if the White Sox fell off,
03:57it wouldn't be the most surprising thing under the sun.
04:00Like, there's pathways there for a team like Seattle.
04:03and you can find out that you might be THEM.
04:03So let's get out of here.
