00:00:14The symbol of the Hapkido, the emblem on the cover, which is symbol of the World Hapkido Federation, is well
00:00:22remembered and has been proudly worn by Hapkido practitioners since the beginning of the modern Hapkido period.
00:00:28From August 1967 until recently, the eagle has been used as a symbol of Hapkido. The members of the World
00:00:37Hapkido Federation, however, have now adopted the traditional and original Hapkido emblem as the official symbol of Hapkido.
00:00:45This symbol, although modernized somewhat in design, still embodies the theory, proof principles, and philosophy of Hapkido based on ancient
00:00:54and traditional Oriental teachings.
00:00:56The outer circle signifies the universe in its general sense and man in its specific sense. The circle has been
00:01:04adopted from the Oriental philosophy that a large circle represents a globe and a small circle represents a man or
00:01:11mind.
00:01:12The globe represents the constant growth and development of Hapkido and the World Hapkido Federation. The arrowhead shape symbols, which
00:01:20cannot be found in any other martial art emblem, face diagonally from opposite sides to signify the hand position and
00:01:28technique frequently applied in Hapkido.
00:01:30This shape is derived from the hand position established when both open hands are lifted vertically and the thumbs and
00:01:38index fingers are extended, forming a V design.
00:01:41Philosophically, philosophically, these two arrowhead shapes symbolizes the opposing principles of positive and negative, the yin and yang.
00:01:50Under the philosophy of Hapkido, there is no opponent who cannot be overcome by the technique of Hapkido.
00:01:55Regardless of size or strength, when utilizing these principles, these arrowhead symbols can also be interpreted as keys or as
00:02:03offense and defense in Hapkido.
00:02:05Thus, the emblem radiates all the meanings and traditions of Hapkido.
00:02:10For these principles and truths, we hope this will be a welcome representative symbol of the spirit of Hapkido.
00:02:23History of the World Hapkido Federation.
