00:02:47Hi. I'm Gary Costanza. It was once said that battle is in the eye of the beholder, and you must
00:02:52become the general of that battle. I hope that the techniques that you get from the tape series will help
00:02:56you reach that goal. Enjoy, and good luck.
00:03:09On this tape, we're going to be dealing with club disarms, or stick, or even as far as we might
00:03:15even go into, will be a baseball bat.
00:03:16The theory on this is this, is when Sean comes across with any type of a stick or club, the
00:03:23power of the stick is at the end.
00:03:27Same thing with this area. Power of the stick is at the end.
00:03:31Now, what your job is, your job is to move your body to be as close to the person attacking
00:03:36you, getting away from the power of the stick.
00:03:38And as we said in other tapes, that the safest place in a hurricane is right in the eye.
00:03:43So as I come out, you must body shift with the stick.
00:03:47If the direction the stick is going this way, then you must go with that stick.
00:03:51If the stick is coming from here, then I must go with the stick.
00:03:55The first type of angle we're going to do is he's going to side-slash me across the center of
00:04:00the body.
00:04:01On one of our tapes before, we mentioned to you about the trapping hands.
00:04:04Now, it becomes even more important with this tape because he has a weapon at this point.
00:04:10Now, the difference with this is that when I brush, this will distract him.
00:04:16Just a second, it will just distract him.
00:04:18He's going from now offensively going to attack me to now thinking defense.
00:04:23That's my job.
00:04:24So that I can think, brush, hold.
00:04:28Now, when I strike, I can go to any parts of his body as I want and pressure points and
00:04:33a multiple of things.
00:04:34What we're going to do with this technique is this.
00:04:36We're going to brush, hold.
00:04:38What I'm going to do at this point, I'm going to swing the stick by him, disarming the stick right
00:04:43off of his own ribs.
00:04:47Disarm into a figure four takedown.
00:04:52So from this angle, technique comes in, brush, hold.
00:05:01Swinging the stick by, disarming off Sean's body, goes against his wrist.
00:05:08At this point here, I'm reversing the direction on Sean, taking him into the throw.
00:05:14And ending up again with a joint lock technique.
00:05:17Full power.
00:05:26The side.
00:05:30The side.
00:05:55The side.
00:06:21The side.
00:06:41And this technique here, Sean's going to be coming again with the same angle.
00:06:44I'm going to do a double pseudo block.
00:06:47Double pseudo block.
00:06:48What this is going to do, I'm going to strike between the wrist and the elbow and against the tricep.
00:06:53You see from this angle here, I block between the wrist, the elbow, and the tricep.
00:07:01And again, the important point is moving the body, whole body movement, getting away from the power of the stick.
00:07:08That's the first move and most critical.
00:07:10If you cannot pull this move off, then it's not going to work after that.
00:07:14You must defend yourself first by whole body movement.
00:07:17At this point here, the force of Sean coming forward and my power coming in should have the stick out
00:07:26of his hand at that point.
00:07:28So when he comes in, that happens first.
00:07:33Now, before he reacts to that, I'm going to take a circular motion here, bringing Sean's arm up.
00:07:39I'm going to feed it under his groin, grab his two hands, and throw.
00:07:49Again, a slow motion from this side.
00:07:53I move, I block.
00:07:57Taking the arm away, through and under the groin for the throw.
00:08:05And you can always follow up with knee to ribs or strike.
00:08:11Full power.
00:08:21This angle.
00:08:25I move, I move, I move, I move.
00:08:53This angle.
00:08:58This angle.
00:09:21It's chill!
00:09:27This angle?
00:09:45and this technique again we're doing the same side technique I'm going again with the brush
00:09:50hold pattern okay we're doing the trapping hands brush and hold I'm taking this stick around Sean's
00:09:58neck against again the nerve in the neck the brachial plexus origin I'm going to take Sean
00:10:03down with the pressure against that nerve that point here I still have the pressure the nerve
00:10:10and you can still follow up with anything you have again this is a little bit more simpler
00:10:17but it's very effective I come across I brush hold take the stick to him recall this I call
00:10:25this in the system return to sender take him down for the throw this side again very critical brush
00:10:37hold circular motion and a quick downward takedown full power yes yes yes yes
00:10:52Up to the side.
00:10:56Yes, yes, yes!
00:11:14Yes, yes, yes!
00:11:15Up to the side.
00:11:21Yes, yes, yes!
00:11:22Yes, yes, yes!
00:11:43Up to the side.
00:11:45What's the whole...
00:11:46Yes, yes, yes!
00:12:08Up to the side.
00:12:11Yes, yes, yes!
00:12:11Oh, it's the whole...
00:12:12Yes, yes, yes!
00:12:24Okay, Sean's coming with the same technique again.
00:12:27Now, this is kind of like a part B to what we just did.
00:12:30I'm going to brush, hold.
00:12:32I'm going to the same area that I did before, but in this point, I'm going to knock the stick
00:12:37off his neck, striking that nerve, releasing the stick.
00:12:41At that point here, I'm going to insert the hand inside the lapel, raising the arm up, choke.
00:12:50Okay, so you see here again, he's going to come in, body shift, brush, hold, off the neck, arm up,
00:13:05choke.
00:13:13Again, I brush, I hold, I take the stick against the nerve for the disarm.
00:13:21I start already with the pull of the lapel.
00:13:24This is already inserted at this point to start the choke.
00:13:29Left hand goes underneath for the choke.
00:13:38Okay, full power.
00:13:47Yes.
00:13:48Yes, yes, yes.
00:13:50Yes, yes.
00:14:25Yes, yes.
00:14:26Yes, yes.
00:14:28Yes.
00:14:29Yes.
00:14:29Yes.
00:15:04Yes, yes, yes, that's awesome.
00:15:13Yes, yes, yes, yes.
00:16:05And this technique here, Sean's going to be coming down to the center of the head.
00:16:09We're back to our X-blocking that we did earlier in our tapes.
00:16:12Very, very important.
00:16:13Now what you can do with the X-block, you have the choice.
00:16:15I can go inside, I can go outside.
00:16:21That's the beauty of having the X-block available to you.
00:16:25Again, notice the body shifting.
00:16:27The stick goes by me.
00:16:29If I happen to even miss the block, I'm still safe.
00:16:35So this is here.
00:16:36I move outside.
00:16:38I take the stick, controlling him now, feeding it back.
00:16:43Again, a lot of these are returned to senders.
00:16:46Feed it underneath the groin and up the groin.
00:16:51Slowly from this angle, the block, feeding it through, grabbing the stick in between, lifting
00:17:04up the groin.
00:17:05This point here, you can throw, toss him in any position you'd like.
00:17:09Full power.
00:17:11Sit down!
00:17:20Sit down!
00:17:20Sit down!
00:17:21Ow!
00:17:21What the?
00:17:44See, that's it.
00:17:45Yes!
00:17:52Sit down.
00:17:53Sit down.
00:17:54Ow.
00:17:56Sit down.
00:18:16Sit down.
00:18:23Yes, yes, yes
00:19:11Another 12 strike in the angle coming over the top of the head.
00:19:15The body shift and the X block.
00:19:19Again, body shift and X block.
00:19:22Key move.
00:19:23Very key move.
00:19:26If you notice, we do a lot of directing.
00:19:29You manipulate, redirect, manipulate.
00:19:33Redirect, manipulate.
00:19:35You have to redirect the force of the weapon.
00:19:38Never do I try not to meeting this force on force, especially against a weapon like this.
00:19:43Because even if it's here and I'm strong, that wrist can still hit me.
00:19:47Okay?
00:19:48You can bend the wrist and the sticks can still hit.
00:19:52Here, redirect.
00:19:54Manipulate.
00:19:55Now, here's a key spot here.
00:19:57My pseudo hand is locking the wrist up.
00:20:00Paying compliance.
00:20:03Drops the stick.
00:20:04And I have a same standard type of wrist lock, but I'm doing it with my pseudo hand at the
00:20:09same time.
00:20:10Feeds down.
00:20:11Very important that you feed the pseudo hand to you.
00:20:15You watch again.
00:20:17Comes down.
00:20:19Key move one.
00:20:21Redirect.
00:20:23Circle.
00:20:26Joint lock.
00:20:27Disabling.
00:20:28Taking out the wrist.
00:20:30Okay.
00:20:31Now, before that, I come here.
00:20:35I come here.
00:20:38I strike the ear with the palm.
00:20:42This is to, again, give him that feeling that he's lost his imbalance for a split second, which enables me
00:20:51to go forward into completing the technique.
00:20:53Again, if you watch.
00:20:57Slow.
00:20:58Manipulate.
00:20:59Boom.
00:21:00Stick this arm.
00:21:02At that point here, we're going to go through the final move.
00:21:05I come through.
00:21:08Boom.
00:21:09Stick this arm.
00:21:11I go under for a joint locking technique again.
00:21:15Here's the position that you have to have.
00:21:17Wrist turn.
00:21:18Pinky to the ceiling.
00:21:20Get him on his toes.
00:21:22Preferably elbow bent.
00:21:26Joint lock.
00:21:28Throw.
00:21:31From this angle.
00:21:35Block.
00:21:38Stick by me.
00:21:41Strike the ear.
00:21:43Around.
00:21:46Joint lock.
00:21:49Takedown.
00:21:53Full power.
00:21:58Full power.
00:21:58AssAnd.
00:22:00Assas...
00:22:00Ass.
00:22:02Asss.
00:22:02Ass.
00:22:06Ass.
00:22:07Yes.
00:22:08Ass.
00:22:08You're a poor reflexive.
00:22:17You
00:23:41S, S, S, S, S!
00:23:47S, S, S!
00:23:49S, S, S, S!
00:24:32I don't know.
00:24:52In this technique here, now, Sean's going to be coming with a baseball bat.
00:24:55Now, you have a different set of problems here.
00:24:56Number one, you have a very heavy weapon and the length to get around.
00:25:01Now, with a bat, very, very important is the timing.
00:25:04You have to do one of two things here.
00:25:05You're going to have to either get him to swing the bat so you can go inside.
00:25:11Or you're going to have to try to, say, if he comes from the head here, you must get him
00:25:15to, if you entice him to move, to come down, and then you have to beat him before it comes
00:25:20up.
00:25:20The thing about a bat, you must time your swings.
00:25:23So what we're going to do here, we're going to try an overhead strike on the top of my head.
00:25:27Now, what I'm going to do with this is very important.
00:25:29Again, I'm going to lead Sean over so that he's off balance.
00:25:35I'm in balance.
00:25:37What I'm going to be doing at this point, if you see here, I'm taking his shoulder and I'm rolling
00:25:43him at one.
00:25:47And this all will happen at the same time because when Sean comes over the top of the head, I
00:25:51body shift.
00:25:52First, this has defended me at this point.
00:25:54I've already defended myself.
00:25:55You watch again.
00:25:56Back comes in.
00:25:58Defended myself.
00:26:00What I'm going to do at this point here, I have to control the weapon.
00:26:04Very important.
00:26:05And once I hold this, this is deadly force.
00:26:07I control this.
00:26:08What I'm going to do at this point, I'm going to still push, pull, roll Sean out, and I have
00:26:14the weapon for myself.
00:26:18And the technique that's going to follow, if for some reason he holds on to the bat, then I must
00:26:25reverse the direction.
00:26:27And we're going to go into that next.
00:26:29So there is a part B to look forward to on this technique.
00:26:34On the first version again, he comes down.
00:26:38I take Sean, continue the motion, throw.
00:26:43From this angle.
00:26:47He comes forward.
00:26:50I block, continue, throw.
00:26:54Full power.
00:26:59He'll like, run for you.
00:27:02If you want, please.
00:27:07He'll, he'll try.
00:27:13Please.
00:27:20Please.
00:27:21Using.
00:27:22Bye-bye.
00:27:22Please.
00:27:23Please.
00:29:01And this technique again, this is part B of what we just got done talking about, a 12-strike
00:29:06or overhead strike to the top of the head with the baseball bat.
00:29:09We just got done talking that by continuing the flow of Sean over into a throw.
00:29:15So what we're going to do here is that if he holds on to the bat, I'm going to take
00:29:21my,
00:29:21you notice my elbow's up a little bit higher at this point.
00:29:23I'm going to take his momentum, continue it, and reverse it if he holds.
00:29:33From this angle, bat comes down, I body shift, I continue the bat, continue Sean's momentum,
00:29:42he's still holding.
00:29:42Now, I go against his wrist and reverse it.
00:29:47Full power.
00:30:12Full power.
00:30:14Full power.
00:30:26Full power.
00:30:27Full power.
00:30:28Full power.
00:30:29Full power.
00:30:34Full power.
00:30:36Full power.
00:30:37Full power.
00:30:41Full power.
00:30:42Full power.
00:30:42Full power.
00:31:12I don't know.
00:31:54In this technique, another overhead strike with a bat.
00:31:58Again, we talked about moving away, letting him swing down.
00:32:01We talked about coming forward and leading him.
00:32:05This was going to be a little bit different.
00:32:07What I'm going to do, I'm going to try to time the bat in his swing.
00:32:10He raised it above his head.
00:32:12I beat him coming down.
00:32:14Very important.
00:32:15I beat the swing.
00:32:17Again, you can either let the swing go by or you try to beat the swing.
00:32:24It's a very dangerous situation, but one thing you cannot do is stay here.
00:32:30You cannot stay.
00:32:31You must move the body, especially the head.
00:32:36So he comes forward.
00:32:38I stop the force at its point at this here, at the section right above his head.
00:32:44I spit.
00:32:45The art of spitting works very, very good, especially in this type of situation.
00:32:49I distract him.
00:32:50Again, if you watch, I come in.
00:32:57Double palm strike to ears.
00:32:59Again, could break the eardrums with no problem.
00:33:01At this point, it gives me enough time to spin for the throw.
00:33:07Slow motion this side.
00:33:11That comes down.
00:33:13I'm here, ears, spin, and if anything goes wrong at this section, I can sweep.
00:33:22I can elbow.
00:33:23I can throw.
00:33:25Depending on how much knowledge you have, remember there's not a set pattern.
00:33:29You learn them in a set pattern, but you break it up if you have to for a real street
00:33:33fight.
00:33:33You're here, block, spit.
00:33:37At the eardrum strike, the bat will drop.
00:33:41Boom.
00:33:42His equilibrium is off.
00:33:43He could be in shock.
00:33:44Turn for the throw.
00:33:49Full power.
00:34:03Full power.
00:34:05Your hand side.
00:34:05Ah, see!
00:34:29Puttou atrás, Luisa!
00:34:31Yeah!
00:34:39Two hands!
00:34:41See you!
00:35:28In this technique here, Sean's going to be throwing a left-handed backhand
00:35:31strike.
00:35:32Again, going back to our basics, you cannot stay here, and you cannot try to go on the
00:35:38outside into it.
00:35:40So you must move your body with the stick.
00:35:45Again, very, very important, move with the power of the stick.
00:35:50As the stick moves, my body moves.
00:35:54Now this is what we call a gliding block.
00:35:58I'm going to take his hand and lead him, but if you notice what I'm doing here, very
00:36:02important that you see, I'm striking the top of his back of his elbow.
00:36:07That should release this because, not that I've given pain to his wrist, but I've given
00:36:12a hyperextension to the elbow or a possible break.
00:36:15It only takes about an eighth of an inch to break an elbow.
00:36:18So in this particular case here, he's coming inside.
00:36:22I pop that up.
00:36:24I spin.
00:36:26And I throw him.
00:36:27Again, with the pain compliance here, he has to go down.
00:36:31I can either do one of two things.
00:36:32I can walk him down or I would throw him down.
00:36:40Later on in the tapes, to follow in the series when we do knives, I'll walk him down because
00:36:45if I come here, I can turn, I can walk him down, and I can lock him up.
00:36:55Now, this particular technique, we're going to do an actual throw.
00:36:58He comes forward, I block up, I turn, my power throws him, and you lead him down.
00:37:07Don't bend your body.
00:37:08Just either do one or two things.
00:37:09You stay upright and lead him, or you kneel down and take him down.
00:37:12Full power.
00:37:13Don't bend your body though, I can never kill him.
00:37:15It's her.
00:37:16Don't, bend your body.
00:37:17It's her, it's her.
00:37:21It's her, it's her!
00:37:23It's her, it's her!
00:37:49I'm sorry.
00:37:51I'm sorry.
00:37:58I'm sorry.
00:38:13I'm sorry.
00:38:24I'm sorry.
00:38:31I'm sorry.
00:38:32I'm sorry.
00:38:43I'm sorry.
00:38:43In this technique here, you'll see Sean come across to the left side of my body with a strike across
00:38:48my body.
00:38:49And again, we've been moving to the outside on the crossovers from the left hand.
00:38:53With the right, I'm going to be moving to his inside.
00:38:56Because again, the power of the stick is here.
00:38:59The closer I get to the wrist, the eye in the hurricane, my damage is done inside.
00:39:05It's deadly force.
00:39:06I must get away from that deadly force.
00:39:07He comes forward.
00:39:09I come in with a double pseudo block.
00:39:12On the other hand, we came sideways, outside, both sides here.
00:39:16I'm going into the bicep.
00:39:18And what we have here at this point, I'm striking the median nerve.
00:39:23Very important to remember that when I strike the median nerve, it causes him to release the weapon.
00:39:28Very important when you're doing a temiwaza or striking techniques is that when I strike the body, especially if he
00:39:37has deadly force, I must cause a motor dysfunction in his body to give me the time to do what
00:39:43I have to do.
00:39:44So this is going against bicep.
00:39:47Now, a lot of times guys try to develop their biceps, and I'm a firm believer in weight training.
00:39:51However, those are the areas that you hit.
00:39:54You actually hit the lumps of, you hit those lumps.
00:39:57Okay?
00:39:58And even with the top of the thumb, a couple pounds of pressure to a muscle area causes pain.
00:40:04So what we're doing, when you think about this, and you're imagining this going on, is that that's why you
00:40:11don't want to be too close here, too close here, or too wide.
00:40:16I want to be bicep in the median nerve.
00:40:20First strike.
00:40:22One, left hand grabs.
00:40:25Right hand, elbow strike.
00:40:28At that point, the stick is released, but the stick could have been released on the first very shot.
00:40:34At this point, chances are the stick has been gone at that point.
00:40:38If it's still there, it's definitely going to be gone at this point.
00:40:45Okay, now from here, before Sean can react to this, boom, boom, I'm going to the floor.
00:40:55My hands are going to go down to the floor.
00:40:57I'm going to spring myself back up into a scissors.
00:41:00I'm going to have to move it back here to twitch.
00:41:02I'm going to come forward.
00:41:05I'm going to strike.
00:41:06I'm going to go to the floor and come up.
00:41:10Now at this point here, I can have an axe kick to the back of the spine.
00:41:15Slowly.
00:41:18Comes down.
00:41:20Boom.
00:41:22Boom.
00:41:23Down.
00:41:24Up.
00:41:26Head.
00:41:28Spine.
00:41:30Also, stomp to the ribs.
00:41:33Full power.
00:41:47Full power on this side.
00:41:51Oh, yes.
00:41:52Oh, yes.
00:41:53Yes.
00:41:53Lay fuck.
00:41:54Come up.
00:42:10Okay, wait.
00:42:15The angels.
00:42:19Butter.
00:42:19Yow.
00:42:20Theoy.
00:42:22The angels.
00:42:23The angels.
00:42:23Which is the king at us?
00:42:23What?
00:42:28Full power on this side.
00:42:31Oh, yes.
00:42:32Oh, yes.
00:42:33Yes.
00:42:34Yes.
00:42:35Yes.
00:42:36Yes.
00:43:03What?
00:43:05What?
00:43:09What?
00:43:10Full power on this side?
00:43:13Oh, yes.
00:43:14Oh, yes.
00:43:15Ah!
00:43:17Yes!
00:43:27OK, and this move here.
00:43:30This looks very simple.
00:43:31It's basically going to be one move, one turn.
00:43:34The reason why we put this in the tape is because sometimes you don't have enough time
00:43:38to see the person, you know, getting ready to strike you, doesn't give you enough time
00:43:42to get in a stance.
00:43:42You might not have enough time to put a foot forward, get a block up.
00:43:45You don't have the time to do anything but a quick, fast reaction.
00:43:50So I call this a Tai Kendo type of a move.
00:43:52We're using here the principles of Tai Shi.
00:43:56If you've ever seen an artist do it, very soft, warding off the power.
00:44:01I'm also using the footwork of our Kendo art.
00:44:06When I move here, the footwork or the feet are very, very important.
00:44:12Can you get the shanai for me, please?
00:44:15For the motion here, if you ever see, they move very quickly this side to side.
00:44:20One, two, three.
00:44:22So the motion of my body to move in these angles, taken from Kendo, gives me the footwork
00:44:27and the speed to be able to put it together with this.
00:44:32Plus, the angle is very hard.
00:44:34Because any time you have a long object to get around, it cuts down some of your options.
00:44:41If it was shorter, I would be able to get to Shawn's wrist easily if it's only out to here.
00:44:47But since it's so long, it takes away an option of mine.
00:44:50So what I'm going to do here, I'm going to use the warding off.
00:44:54I'm also going to use the footwork, which enables me to move out of the way similar to a Kendo
00:45:00man.
00:45:01So I'm facing the side of the stick.
00:45:04Now the key point is to control the weapon.
00:45:06Done.
00:45:07I move.
00:45:08I ward it off.
00:45:09Now, this is a subtle but very important move.
00:45:12You notice I can snap his elbow with the torque of my body.
00:45:15If he holds on, I have an elbow break.
00:45:19If he lets go, then that's fine because I disarmed him at that point, and you can kick.
00:45:26So we're going to come across.
00:45:27And I'm going to really try to torque the body to get the elbow strike so Shawn falls.
00:45:34So the options of the person assaulting you, he can either let go of the stick, and now
00:45:41you have disarmed him.
00:45:43He can hold on to the stick, and you are going to take him down.
00:45:48So one more time, slow motion.
00:45:51Putting together the body movement.
00:45:53Remember the most important thing that you have to remember in defending yourself, you
00:45:56must defend your center line.
00:45:58Your center line is your solar plexus, your heart, your lungs, the groin.
00:46:02And if you know a Wing Chun artist, they always protect center line.
00:46:06Your center line must be taken away from the attack.
00:46:10He comes forward.
00:46:11The center line is not there anymore.
00:46:13Okay.
00:46:14So what we're doing here, slow motion.
00:46:16Take the stick, glide him by with a possible elbow break.
00:46:20Very important.
00:46:21Full power.
00:46:23Full power.
00:46:24Two.
00:46:25One.
00:46:30Two.
00:46:32Each.
00:46:32One.
00:46:33One.
00:46:33Two.
00:46:34Two.
00:46:34Two.
00:46:34Five.ettenver.
00:46:40Choose.
00:46:41Two.
00:46:43Four.
00:46:44Two.
00:46:49Six.
00:46:51Three.
00:46:55Let's go.
00:47:21Hey, ice!
00:47:33Okay, now Sean's going to be coming from the side of my body again with the back hand with the
00:47:37right hand.
00:47:38Here we are back again to our trapping, the brush, and the hold.
00:47:43Again, body movement, brush, hold.
00:47:47I'm going to move inside, stopping the stick, gliding the right hand to the end of the stick.
00:47:53For this particular technique, depending on where I grab the stick, tells me on how to attack Sean back.
00:47:59If I take the end on this side, here, I'm going to come around Sean, and it's going to insert
00:48:10beneath his chin level.
00:48:16If I start in another position and happen to grab it in the middle, I will be going down to
00:48:22his legs.
00:48:25And if I happen to get this end here, I will go into a choke.
00:48:35Our priority on this particular move, because I'm going to try to do a throw, brush, take the hand at
00:48:42this end of the far end.
00:48:44I will turn back to back, and I don't know, glancing over my right shoulder, inserting the stick at this
00:48:51point.
00:48:51I'll grab the other end, I will kneel down, and I'll be throwing Sean over the top with the stick
00:49:00under his throat.
00:49:05Slow motion, this side, you want to try?
00:49:10I brush, hold, take the stick away, back to back, insert.
00:49:19Drop my center of gravity, kneel, and throw.
00:49:26Full power.
00:49:26Yes.
00:49:43Hammer.
00:49:44I'm not going to die.
00:50:14Seal, seal, seal!
00:50:24This has, uh, seal, seal!
00:50:55This has, uh, sealed, seal, seal!
00:50:58This, slash, seal!
00:51:05This has, uh, seal!The?
00:51:20In this technique here, Sean's going to be grabbing me with one arm
00:51:24and about to hit me with the other side with a stick.
00:51:27Now, this is very critical.
00:51:28Again, at this point here, I'm going to try to beat the stick
00:51:32before it comes down to me.
00:51:33Now, what I'm going to be doing here,
00:51:34I'm going to be actually blocking this hand away
00:51:38with my forearm against his forearm at this point.
00:51:41It will be actually shooting up, and it will be blocking at the same time.
00:51:46This hand will be also coming off
00:51:49because my two arms go up at the same time exactly here.
00:51:53I beat it from this side.
00:51:57Now, from here, he grabs.
00:52:00I block.
00:52:01The hand that's high, my right hand, strikes the collarbone.
00:52:06Chop to the collarbone.
00:52:08Chop to the ribs.
00:52:09This hand that I knocked off, I strike the tricep.
00:52:14I strike kidney area.
00:52:20Boom.
00:52:21Either a slap, palm, shooto.
00:52:24I come back, which pushes Sean forward
00:52:26into momentum of an elbow forearm strike coming back.
00:52:31So we call this the six swords in Zen Sakai.
00:52:33He comes forward, one sword, two sword, three sword, four sword.
00:52:40Five, six.
00:52:43One more time.
00:52:46One, two, three, four, five.
00:52:51Shooto to the back.
00:52:53Six, forearm strike.
00:52:56Four power.
00:52:58Seven, four, five, four, five.
00:53:01Four, five, four, four, five.
00:53:01Five, four.
00:53:11Four, six, four, six, three, six.
00:53:12Four, six, eight.
00:53:12I don't know.
00:53:49I don't know.
00:54:21I don't know.
00:54:43It's up for you.
00:54:43I'm going to go.
00:55:15I hope you enjoyed this tape and you'll continue with the rest of the series.
00:55:19Remember, it's always too soon to quit.
00:55:20I want to give special thanks to my assistant Sean Curran
00:55:23and especially Panther Productions for the opportunity of being on with their company.
00:55:29What attracted me most to the martial arts is probably the physical attraction of staying in shape.
00:55:35I always wanted to be into the health type of curriculum.
00:55:38And then after I was in it, of course, then I learned the whole scope of the program.
00:55:42What makes a good student to me is someone who has that drive, the will,
00:55:46to get knocked down seven times and get up eight
00:55:49and that they have to go after their highest potentials and reach it.
00:55:54A good instructor is somebody that I think draws out of the student the student's potential to excel.
00:56:00The training series on Panther Productions have given me an opportunity to take my style to the public
00:56:05so they can take some basic self-defense techniques as well as advance
00:56:08and incorporate it in their martial arts systems.
00:56:11The Zen Sikai Go Shun Jutsu system was basically formed when a police officer student of mine
00:56:16asked us to do a defensive tactics seminar for his police department.
00:56:20Upon doing that, it took root in that we noticed that men who were looking for in close range type
00:56:27of situations,
00:56:28basically dealing with the weapons of the 90s, guns, knives, clubs, baseball bats, direct attacks,
00:56:33someone high on drugs, and the ability to incapacitate someone was really the conditioning of the program was for that
00:56:41reason.
00:56:42I see the future of the martial arts more than ever going back to basic self-defense
00:56:48so that people now, with the crime rate the way it is,
00:56:50right now crime is the number one thing on anybody's mind.
00:56:54And there's a crime every two seconds in the United States,
00:56:56and I believe that now people, that is their priority.
00:56:59So now they're interested still in the Zen, they're interested still in the Doe, the Way,
00:57:04but they still want to stay traditional, which is great.
00:57:07But the bottom line now more than ever with sexual assaults against women and children in the United States,
00:57:12I think now they must have the ability to defend themselves.
00:57:16My future goals is just to continue learning and being a teacher as well as a student.
00:57:21The person most responsible for the creation of my system
00:57:24was a person who encouraged me at the beginning when I was putting it together.
00:57:28Sometimes I questioned whether I was good enough to do it
00:57:30or whether I had enough technique to do it.
00:57:31His name is Jerry Basilo, and Jerry is a very humble man
00:57:34who probably wouldn't want me to mention him,
00:57:36but I give credit to where it's due and I give thanks, and that's the man.
00:57:41My involvement with law enforcement started about 1987.
00:57:43We started teaching defensive tactics to police officers.
00:57:47It got to the point where it was not only enjoyable, but a great need for it.
00:57:52They have a couple weeks in the academy, they're never reviewed again,
00:57:55and chances are for police officers needing this on an everyday thing,
00:57:58especially with liability suits, it became critical and paramount
00:58:00that they knew how to do this in a structure that we're doing it now in Zen and my Zen
00:58:04Sakai system.
00:58:06One of the precepts of Ishma Karate, which is one of my traditional systems that we're trained in,
00:58:10unbalance is the same as weight.
00:58:12And I believe that you have to have that balance between your family and your career.
00:58:15And I believe that the balance that I've done with the physical end of my system is doing well,
00:58:20but without the love for my wife and my children, I know I could not have gotten to where I
00:58:23have now.
00:58:25My closing words for anybody, whether it's martial arts or whether it's life, your marriage, your job,
00:58:30it's always too soon to quit.
00:58:59It's always too soon to quit.
00:59:01I believe that he is.
00:59:30It's always too soon to quit.
