00:00One point in it between Levi Kitchin,
00:02the rider out of Washougal, Washington,
00:04and Cole Davies, the New Zealander.
00:07That's one thing to watch,
00:08but this class has opened the door for multiple winners,
00:11multiple podium finishers.
00:13A lot of riders and a lot to gain right now.
00:15Reds are up.
00:17Gates down.
00:19And Kitchin's going to use the line on the inside.
00:22He tried to get up on the grass.
00:24And it's going to work.
00:25The 47 has his first hole shot of the year.
00:28And guess who's in second?
00:29We got Cole Davies.
00:31One and two in the points.
00:32It's exactly what we wanted.
00:33That's where you talk about your championship contender.
00:36They get out there and make it happen.
00:38Now, they didn't have a parade lap,
00:39so they don't really know how this track's going to be.
00:41It's a lot different than what they were earlier.
00:43But nonetheless, it is.
00:45Here you go.
00:46And what did I just say in the keys to the moment?
00:48You want it?
00:49Well, go get it.
00:50Cole Davies and Levi Kitchin, they're trying to get it.
00:52Long race to go.
00:53But what can you say about Kitchin,
00:55who has struggled with starts this year?
00:57They've gotten better,
00:57but he has not been close to a hole shot until right now
01:00when he needed it most.
01:02Clutch for the 47.
01:04And now,
01:04Hymas has made the move on Davies.
01:07Yeah, good start by chance.
01:08It looks like he's trying to make the move on Levi.
01:11Now, what you're going to see is these guys
01:13execute that start,
01:14and then they'll probably try to calm down
01:16maybe everybody outside of Chance.
01:17Hymas, he wants to get up front
01:19as Levi almost goes over to handlebars right there.
01:21But that's where I was going back to, Jason,
01:23that they haven't done a parade lap,
01:24so they don't really know they're testing it out as they go.
01:28And I've got to imagine,
01:29there's so much risk in it.
01:30If Kitchin were to go down right now,
01:31it would ruin all the hard work,
01:32and it just happened!
01:35Unbelievable!
01:36How quickly can he get up the field?
01:38Oh, no.
01:39He dropped the bike a second time.
01:41Oh, man.
01:42Bummer for Levi.
01:43But you can see how spread out the field is.
01:46I mean, he's probably going to get inside the top 20,
01:48but that is costly.
01:50And going back to my point,
01:51they haven't had a parade lap,
01:52so he wouldn't know that.
01:54Yeah.
01:55Oh, you could see multiple times in that first lap,
01:57but I'm sure he was not alone
01:58with just hitting soft spots
01:59that the riders would not be aware of.
02:02Oh, and Landon Gibson just got it as well.
02:04So, again, Kitchin's not alone in this,
02:07but this was the most costly.
02:08Yeah, watch this.
02:09He goes to lean back.
02:11It looks like he's just starting to lose the front
02:13as Cole Davies slows down.
02:15But, man, Yvonne, this is the opportunity you needed.
02:18You needed a good start.
02:19Makes a small mistake.
02:21Comes up a little short on this.
02:22No big deal.
02:23He's leaning back.
02:24It just loses the front end
02:25because they put a little bit of...
02:27They worked on the racetrack there.
02:29Oh, man, that's tough for Levi Kitchin.
02:31Oh, and we'll get a...
02:33It's 17.
02:34He's in 17 right now.
02:35Chance Hymas to the lead.
02:36He has proven to be a mutter.
02:39Won a Supercross in these conditions last year, JT.
02:42Yeah, that's exactly where I was going to go.
02:45Listen, he hails from Pocatello, Idaho.
02:47Idaho spring and fall, a lot of wet weather,
02:50a lot of mud riding,
02:51and he used to race a lot of off-road races as well.
02:53So, inclement conditions right up his alley.
02:56And exactly like you said, Jason Foxborough,
02:582025 was his breakthrough main event win
03:01in conditions not so different than this.
03:03And you can see him going for the throat.
03:05Immediately made the move on Davies,
03:07putting pressure on Kitchin.
03:09And by the way, if someone new, like Hymas,
03:13were to win today, Hymas has not won this year,
03:15he would make seven different overall winners
03:18in this season, which would be a record for the class.
03:22Yeah, this class is wild.
03:24And as I was saying, like, the opening lap,
03:27you want to get a good start.
03:28But you can see how different Chance is riding right now.
03:30He's very aggressive.
03:31Now he's starting to kind of chill it out,
03:33let these lines form.
03:34And this track's only to get more difficult
03:37as these Bruts get a little bit deeper.
03:39This guy's going to start bearing a motorcycle.
03:41So, the real task starts now.
03:43Let's go to Will.
03:46Just looking at Chance Hymas,
03:47I know it's early days in this photo right now out front.
03:50And I'm going right back to our conversation
03:52that I had with him today.
03:53Where he's like, oh, would I like to get a moto win
03:56in these last two rounds?
03:58It's something...
04:00Oh, there's something.
04:02There's something.
04:02He's tripled up and just roosted our drone.
04:05I feel like I caused that.
04:06I feel like I caused that.
04:07He just...
04:08The opportunity was there today with the weather.
04:11It still is.
04:12But, yeah, for Chance, guys,
04:13he wants this so badly with four to go.
04:15But it's kind of like he's in that place, James.
04:17We talked about with Chance Hymas
04:19where he's trying to keep everything relaxed.
04:21He's not trying to force anything.
04:22I think he's just talking to me about
04:23what a tough balance that is to want it so much
04:25but still have to keep yourself in that place.
04:28Yeah, well, I think for him,
04:30he's got a great group of teammates around him.
04:32Jet Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence,
04:33you know, two of the best ones in the world.
04:35So he's got a lot of help there.
04:37But you've got to think Lars and Honda
04:39and those guys kind of allowing Chance
04:41to be able to do that.
04:43He's doing a great job.
04:44But I know he wants more, and he will eventually.
04:46And Davies wants it bad.
04:47He's really ramped it up.
04:48Hymas got around him and was pulling a gap.
04:51Next time around, Davies able to make the move.
04:53It looks like Chance goes to the inside.
04:56Or excuse me, Cole goes to the inside
04:58of the top makes that pass.
04:59Like I said earlier,
05:00these guys are going to get out here.
05:01These opening laps, they're wide open.
05:03Then they're going to calm things down.
05:05But Kareem brought us to the crop,
05:07the top, excuse me.
05:09You've got Cole Davies out front
05:10with almost three-second lead already.
05:12Kitchen is 12.
05:13Well, really unlocked that pass
05:15as that Davies went for the triple uphill.
05:18And how much do you think Davies just almost sat the first lap out,
05:22used that as his sight lap?
05:23He got a lot faster on lap two.
05:25Well, I think with Levi being out front
05:27and then Chance passing him,
05:29he obviously wanted to sit back
05:30because he was worried about the track condition.
05:32But you also don't want to be too close to a guy.
05:34So I think he sat back
05:35as long as he didn't have that pressure behind him.
05:38And then once he saw Levi go down,
05:40you know, now he kind of understands.
05:41Calm down.
05:42Let's get this track going.
05:43This race.
05:45Crowd cheering Davies.
05:47The top of the hill here.
05:49Got Landon, Gordon third.
05:50Katie Meneer fourth.
05:51Lux Turner fifth.
05:53Bomer, Mumford, Dudney Brown,
05:55and Thrasher top ten.
05:57Then Kitchen in 11th.
05:58Long way to go, though.
06:00So far, exactly the other 37 wanted it.
06:03There is Kitchen in the bottom box
06:05trying to move into the top ten.
06:07Got to get around Thrasher and Brown.
06:08Yeah, Levi's got to just continue moving.
06:10He's actually making up some good time.
06:12And when I talked about this earlier on Race Day Live,
06:15because of how this track spread out with the mud,
06:18that, hey, you're going to have a huge separation
06:20between, like, the first to fifth
06:22and these opening laps compared to other races.
06:24So when Levi went down,
06:25he didn't lose too many positions
06:26because the gap, the group,
06:28is already kind of spread out.
06:30So here he goes.
06:31As you can see, guys making mistakes.
06:33It's just got to be careful
06:33not to get caught up in this.
06:36Well, people love to ride Bugs Creek,
06:38but, James, it's always been said
06:39it's one of the tougher tracks to make passes on.
06:41And in these conditions, even tougher.
06:43Kitchen trying everything he's got.
06:45JT.
06:45Yeah, Kitchen moves through the field.
06:47But, you know, just thinking about
06:48Cole Davies overall in 2026,
06:50it's really been a season of answering questions.
06:53You know, first, he goes out and proves
06:54he can be the guy winning
06:55that Montreal Supercross championship.
06:57Then you come into motocross
06:59and everybody's asking,
06:59well, can he do it in motocross?
07:01We haven't really seen it yet.
07:02Well, here he is answering those questions.
07:04And the final one I had was
07:05implement conditions.
07:07And Joe, a purple ball at him,
07:08how will he respond?
07:09Yet here he is again,
07:11giving a good start
07:12and riding away
07:13with this first moto, Will.
07:15And, JT, the questions are there
07:17because we haven't seen them.
07:18When we look back to last year,
07:20it was only this moto
07:21and last weekend in Unidale
07:23that he even did.
07:25So we don't have anything to look at.
07:26It's not that we're saying
07:27he's not a good mud rider
07:28or he's not a good motocross rider.
07:30It's just that we haven't seen it yet
07:31on a 250.
07:32And talking to his dad this morning,
07:34he's like,
07:34well, even mud skills,
07:36he grew up in New Zealand.
07:37Yes, he's ridden a lot in the mud.
07:40But on a 250, no.
07:42On 85, yes.
07:43On a 250, no.
07:44So every time we see him
07:46answering those questions, JT,
07:47we're also seeing him
07:49in the process of learning something new.
07:51And now with a five and a half second gap
07:53of the lead.
07:55Quick learner, no doubt,
07:56Cole Davies.
07:57He figured out even this is the difference
07:58in the first and second laps down here
08:00where he lost positions
08:01and gained them back.
08:02Here is Kitchin still working.
08:05He's made it around Brown
08:06and Thrasher
08:07now looking to pass Caden Dudley.
08:10Yeah, another teammate to Cole Davies.
08:12But again, Levi's actually doing really good
08:15as he's trying to make passes.
08:17You've got to worry about somebody else
08:18coming up in between you
08:19trying to make that pass.
08:20But very hard conditions to do it
08:22as you see him slipping and sliding.
08:24But here, we're going to go back to the crash.
08:26You can see him lean back,
08:27lose the front end.
08:28Kind of a hard hit right there.
08:30But fortunately for him,
08:31he's able to pick up.
08:32Now watch this.
08:33He goes off track.
08:34AMA is going to review this
08:35because he did get off the track.
08:37And then they're going to review
08:38how fast did he go off to the side
08:41because that can be a penalty.
08:43I'm not the referee,
08:44but it didn't look like he gained any positions
08:46while he was off track.
08:47But it is being reviewed.
08:48He's on the gas right now.
08:50Look at him trying to square up on Dundee.
08:52It almost worked.
08:53Yeah, I think he was trying to stay on the racetrack
08:55as he almost goes down.
08:56I'm getting credit.
08:57Yeah, no, it was a good point.
08:58I'll give it to you.
08:59But probably a scary position
09:01to be in for Levi a little bit
09:02because you've got Pierce Brown
09:04and not saying any of these riders do anything.
09:06But that is Cole Davies' teammate.
09:07So as you're trying to pass another teammate,
09:09you have another one behind you.
09:11Leave that door open.
09:12You might not need any invite
09:15to walk through that door
09:16as Levi tries to get through, JT.
09:18Yeah, James,
09:19and one of the things
09:20that we're going to talk about more in this moto
09:22and it's relevant for Caden Dundee
09:23is he doesn't have any goggles left.
09:25We see Levi Kitchen still okay in that department.
09:27But the longer this race goes on,
09:29there's so much loose and water being thrown off
09:32because the dirt is so loose
09:33and there's just so much from them fixing the racetrack.
09:36So it's going to be a miracle
09:37if anybody has goggles up at the end of this thing.
09:40So for Dundee,
09:40he's trying to do everything he can
09:42to keep Kitchen behind him
09:43because if he doesn't
09:44and that's Kitchen may go right by right here,
09:46he's not going to be able to see
09:47for the next three corners right afterwards.
09:49Yeah, I agree with that.
09:50You can see the tear.
09:50I was hanging off Levi's goggles.
09:52But did you notice
09:53the slight hesitation Levi had
09:55when he went to go make that pass?
09:57I think he felt like he had it.
09:58But for sure,
10:00he's aware of the situations that's going on.
10:03But nonetheless, continue fighting.
10:06Actually, we have a correction here.
10:07The AMA is not reviewing Kitchen
10:09for the off track after the crash.
10:11They're reviewing the start
10:12where he gets up on this grass.
10:16See what's going on.
10:17Uh-oh.
10:21Definitely inside the markers,
10:22I'm going to say that.
10:24Again, I'm not the referee.
10:26Uh, so that is under review.
10:28And I don't know what the precedent
10:30for penalty there would be.
10:32Look, if you're the 47,
10:33you can't think about anything like that right now.
10:35Oh, do I see tear-offs hanging?
10:39That one straight?
10:40Yeah, he's pulling.
10:41It seems like he still has them on.
10:42I saw those tear-offs
10:43as he was pulling another one.
10:44But, yeah,
10:45that start situation
10:46was a little difficult
10:47because basically he was off the track.
10:49He ran off the track
10:51on accident
10:52and weighed at wheels.
10:52But we'll find out.
10:53AMA will do a great job
10:54at figuring it out
10:55and see what happens.
10:56But like you said,
10:57now he's doing a little wipe.
10:59So as JT was saying,
11:01Dutton didn't have goggles.
11:03Starting to see Levi Kitchen
11:04use his hands to wipe.
11:05And that's going to be
11:06a tough break here.
11:07Oh, no.
11:08So it's not mean he's out of tear-offs.
11:09Yeah, it looks like he's...
11:10Yeah, it looks like he might have pulled
11:12and then obviously pulled all of them.
11:14But because of this mud,
11:16it's sticky.
11:17So you only get a couple times
11:18where you can wipe
11:20before you can't even see him
11:21and he's pulling them off.
11:22JT.
11:23I'm just going to...
11:24I'm going to go back
11:25to one of the rounds
11:26from Supercross.
11:27We talked about this
11:28and the difference
11:28between roll-offs and tear-offs
11:30and why I'm such a fan
11:31of roll-offs in this situation.
11:33It basically comes down to
11:34you can have up to
11:35maybe 28 tear-offs.
11:37That's the maximum
11:37you're going to be able to see through.
11:38But roll-offs,
11:39that different type of goggle system
11:41where it's almost endless film,
11:43you have 200 individual poles
11:45on a set of roll-offs.
11:46And I don't...
11:47You know, I know
11:48the younger generation
11:49they white tear-offs,
11:50they grew up with them.
11:51But I think in conditions like this,
11:52you end up paying
11:53too big of a penalty
11:54if you do run out of tear-offs.
11:55We may see Levi Kitchen
11:56dealing with that right here.
11:57Yeah, he's under fire now
11:59from DeFrancisco
11:59probably because of the vision.
12:02Instead of attacking Dugney,
12:03he might lose a spot here.
12:05And there goes Ryder D.
12:08Desperate times now
12:09for the 47.
12:10This is not what he wanted.
12:11Yeah, that outside line
12:12was working earlier,
12:13but he just got a little too...
12:14And it looked like
12:15he might have pointed
12:16to his goggles
12:17or something there.
12:19At this point,
12:20it really doesn't matter.
12:21You got to keep going
12:22and sacrificing.
12:23Some guys will pull in,
12:24but Levi being one point...
12:26There you go.
12:27He's done.
12:28Toss him the goggles.
12:3018 minutes
12:31and two laps left
12:32in this moto.
12:35Yeah, that's going to be
12:36a hard situation
12:37because his track is slow
12:38and because of this mud,
12:40he's actually getting roosted
12:41by his own bike.
12:42The front tire,
12:43the mud comes off kicks
12:44and you can see
12:45how sticky it is.
12:47Probably going to have to deal
12:48with that the whole race.
12:49Oh, man.
12:49Now, explain the roll-off
12:50versus tear-off situation.
12:52Yes, the roll-offs,
12:53the film across the goggles,
12:55there are more pulls.
12:55That sounds like the easy choice,
12:57but explain why some riders
12:58don't necessarily want to run that.
13:00Well, it basically
13:00cuts your vision in half,
13:02maybe even more
13:03when you run the roll-offs.
13:04And so when you have that,
13:06it's like putting glasses on inside.
13:08It shrinks everything down.
13:10You really can't see
13:11as good for me.
13:12And I felt like
13:13when I had them on,
13:14it just made me tight.
13:15I couldn't see the vision.
13:17I couldn't feel
13:18the other riders around me.
13:19So I think it's more
13:20of a feel thing
13:20because of your vision
13:22and clearly going at these speeds,
13:24you want every opportunity
13:26to be able to see.
13:26But as JT said,
13:28when you run out of tear-off,
13:29you have this situation you have.
13:31So it is a 50-50.
13:34Levi did what he needed to do.
13:35He executed the start.
13:36He just didn't finish
13:37that first lap off.
13:39Davies has pulled it
13:40to five and a half seconds.
13:41Kitchen is in 10th.
13:44Going to try to hang
13:45with DiFrancisco here.
13:46Made the move on him.
13:48Gordon third.
13:50Mumford fourth.
13:51Veneer fifth.
13:52JT.
13:53Well, just thinking
13:53through this equation right now,
13:55and certainly this is not
13:57going to be easy moving forward.
13:58Especially if he tries
13:59to go back after Ryder
14:00being Kane Dudney,
14:01he's going to get roosted
14:02in the eyes
14:02and not be able
14:03to see immediately.
14:04So then you start to think,
14:06well, what does the math look like
14:07if he pulls into the mechanics area
14:08to get new goggles?
14:10Can he make up enough time
14:11once he has clear vision again
14:13to offset the time
14:14he would lose
14:15by going to the mechanics area?
14:16I'm sure it's something
14:17he's thought about right now.
14:18It's going to be an interesting one
14:20to see how it plays out.
14:21But so far,
14:21he's decided to not pull in.
14:23Well, he pointed last time around
14:24to the goggles
14:26when he went by the mechanics area.
14:28Here's the drop down.
14:29What will he do?
14:30Right hand turn after this
14:31is where he would stop
14:32if he's going to.
14:34Yeah, so what I think
14:35is going to happen is
14:36now he pulled his goggles off
14:38and I'm assuming
14:38he'll probably go another lap.
14:40So if he's going to pull in
14:41and it'd be this one,
14:42he wanted to let the guys know
14:43so they're prepared
14:44because you really don't know.
14:46And I'm with JT.
14:47if he's not moving forward,
14:49then you probably have
14:50to take that chance and go.
14:52Obviously, he has a lot of speed,
14:53but at the same time,
14:54if you can't pass these guys
14:56because you can't see
14:56and be in the track
14:57that's one line,
14:59it's going to be difficult
14:59for the 47 to pull in.
15:03Yeah, I'm looking at
15:04some of the gaps.
15:05Just to give you an idea,
15:07say 15th place
15:08is 12 seconds behind him.
15:10He could go further back
15:12than that if he stops.
15:15Starting to close back up
15:17to DeFrancisco.
15:18Halfway through,
15:19reminder to stock up
15:20on Monster Energy
15:21at 7-11.
15:23He has caught DeFrancisco,
15:25but DeFrancisco
15:26has caught a pack.
15:27You've got Dundee,
15:28Beaumare,
15:29Turner,
15:30Muneer,
15:31all in sight.
15:32Yeah, and for Levi,
15:34it probably makes it
15:34even more difficult
15:36to pull in
15:36because you have
15:37these guys in here
15:38and, you know,
15:39the hard part now,
15:40it's easier for us
15:41sitting here
15:42talking about it.
15:43This is where
15:43if you're Levi Kitsch,
15:44you've got to think,
15:46man, I'm going to lose
15:46the points lead
15:47at this moment,
15:48but I've still got
15:48three motos left.
15:49So how can I,
15:51you know,
15:51execute this race
15:52to draft
15:53as many points
15:54as I can
15:54and not throw it away,
15:55but it's going to be
15:56harder to do, Will.
15:57I just checked
15:58with the team, James,
15:59and asked them
16:00and at this point
16:00their words were,
16:01I doubt that he'll be
16:02coming in from both
16:03all sides of the world.
16:04If that's going to be
16:04my decision
16:05or whether that's
16:06the team letting you know
16:07that nothing's
16:07on the pit board
16:08right now,
16:08no plans to come in
16:09and get the change now.
16:11All right, thank you.
16:12And DiFrancisco
16:12just showed him
16:13some lines
16:14to make moves.
16:15Ryder D moving forward,
16:16he got around that group
16:17or at least several of them.
16:20So DiFrancisco up to eighth,
16:22Dudley ninth,
16:23bike is steaming
16:25and Chichen is right behind.
16:27Yeah, at the same time,
16:28if you're Levi,
16:29this might be
16:30the best case scenario
16:31in the sense
16:31you almost want
16:32these guys to spread out.
16:33You know,
16:34being in track,
16:34there's only one
16:35or two lines out here.
16:36If they're in a pack,
16:37then that means
16:37you really can't go anywhere.
16:39If they start spreading out,
16:40you're not going to be able
16:41to get them in bunches,
16:42but you might be able
16:43to see and make that pass
16:44on one guy.
16:47Trying to get around Dudley
16:48for a couple laps here.
16:54Yeah, I mentioned
16:54a steam coming out
16:55at Dudley's bike.
16:56That's often the first sign
16:57and they told them
16:58to get off the clutch.
16:59That's often the first sign
17:00of the bike.
17:00It's getting hot.
17:01Now that water's
17:02turning to steam
17:03and the first thing
17:04they tell the rider
17:04is don't use the clutch.
17:07That's what creates
17:08that heat.
17:10But how hard
17:11is it to ride
17:11in these conditions
17:12especially
17:14without using the clutch?
17:15Well, I mean,
17:15it's really hard.
17:16I mean,
17:16I was a guy
17:17that never really
17:18used a clutch,
17:18you know,
17:19for me.
17:19And it was still,
17:20I used quite a bit
17:21in the mud.
17:22More so.
17:23Yeah,
17:23so if you're a guy
17:23who revs it,
17:25I feel like
17:25the mechanics,
17:26they know they're a rider.
17:27If they know
17:28they run a clutch
17:29on the dry
17:29or use it a lot,
17:30then that's the first thing
17:31they do,
17:31get off the clutch.
17:32You know,
17:32the bike gets really hot.
17:33Especially in these situations
17:35when it slows down.
17:37And even more,
17:38another corner here,
17:39the bike gets buried,
17:40the RPM's dropped.
17:41They have to use the clutch
17:42to build the power back up.
17:43So easy to get a bike
17:44that's starting to smoke
17:44in this field.
17:47And that maybe
17:48could go to Kitchens' advantage.
17:51But the thing we mentioned
17:51on the show before,
17:53can Dudley even see that?
17:55He probably doesn't even know.
17:57Well, he ain't got no goggles.
17:58I don't know
17:58if he can see anything.
18:02Yeah, many times
18:03we've asked riders
18:04about what was the deal
18:05with your bike steaming
18:06and they didn't even realize that
18:07because you can see
18:08it's below where
18:09he could actually see it.
18:12It has stretched out now.
18:15Davies takes a look back.
18:16He's maintaining
18:17a five and a half second gap.
18:21Man, what can you say
18:23about this kid?
18:24The maturity
18:25beyond his years.
18:27We mentioned the mindset.
18:27He had one moto
18:29at Millville
18:29a couple races ago
18:30where it did fall apart for him.
18:32But for the most part,
18:33early in his professional career,
18:35really the mental side
18:36of just doing
18:37what he has to do
18:38week in and week out,
18:39he's done it.
18:40Absolutely.
18:41And when you go back
18:41to that moto at Millville,
18:43ever since then,
18:44the last four motos,
18:45he's won three of them
18:46and got second in another one.
18:48So you talk about rebounding
18:50and coming back.
18:51That's what this kid does.
18:52We've seen him do that
18:53in Supercross.
18:54And what's even more impressive
18:56is that it's a different scenario
18:57here in motocross.
18:59Will?
19:01Yeah, and they were
19:02talking about rebounding,
19:03James.
19:03I'm going to talk about
19:04last week, too,
19:05in that first moto.
19:07He had a,
19:07Cole Davis had that big crash
19:09in the practice rounds there.
19:11And I got to speak to him
19:14and his dad and the team
19:15and asked just how bad that was.
19:16And I said,
19:17it was bad.
19:18It was bad enough
19:18that he was in a lot of pain
19:20going into moto one.
19:21And, you know,
19:22he doesn't make excuses.
19:24He's the kind of kid
19:24who just won't say
19:25too many words about it.
19:26So he said,
19:27I'm fine when asked.
19:28But truthfully,
19:29it was a challenge.
19:30They said it was kind of
19:31really halfway through
19:32that first moto
19:33before he started
19:34to kind of peel back
19:35to himself
19:35and into the second one
19:37until he was kind of
19:38riding to his potential.
19:39Obviously,
19:39we saw him win
19:40that second one there.
19:41So a massive effect
19:42from him.
19:43But what they did tell me,
19:44Will Hahn,
19:45his mentor,
19:46team manager over there,
19:47he said,
19:47that was the most
19:48impressive ride
19:49for me from Cole
19:50because to see him
19:51dig that deep,
19:53go back out there,
19:54mentally overcome
19:55the crash,
19:56physically go out there
19:57and push himself
19:58past that point,
19:59that was huge.
20:00So to him,
20:01I think that's just
20:01another lesson learned
20:02that we're talking here
20:03for this whole day
20:04of the strength
20:04of the team's going on.
20:06Yeah, absolutely.
20:07And going back
20:08to what I was saying
20:09before we started talking
20:11was just what's impressive
20:12about this motocross
20:13championship
20:14is exactly what Will said,
20:15like the adversity
20:16compared to Supercross.
20:17Supercross,
20:18it felt like he had
20:18that pretty much
20:19in control.
20:20He was ahead
20:20the whole time.
20:21This one,
20:22he's had some up and downs.
20:23He had that buildable race.
20:24But even last weekend,
20:26what Will's talking
20:26about him overcoming,
20:27we talked about this
20:29on the broadcast
20:29was that the way he crashed,
20:31it was a scary crash.
20:33So as a rider,
20:33that can happen anyway.
20:35And you can see him build
20:36throughout that first moto
20:37to eventually in the second moto
20:39look like a whole different dude.
20:40And that's Cole Davey,
20:42resilient.
20:42And when you look
20:43at this championship,
20:44he's really going out there
20:46and taking advantage
20:47of everything right now.
20:49Although Hymas
20:50just ran the fastest lap
20:52of the race,
20:52track drawing out,
20:53getting quicker.
20:54Everyone's lap times
20:54are getting better,
20:55but Hymas most of all
20:56cut that gap
20:57a little bit.
20:59Kitchen is all the way
21:00back to 12th now.
21:02He's got a replay here.
21:05It's going to be some roost.
21:07Remember,
21:07he does not have the goggles.
21:09He's still battling Dudney.
21:12See where he's.
21:14Look in here.
21:18Yeah,
21:18you can see him
21:18taking a look down.
21:20Oh, wow.
21:26Yeah,
21:26that was kind of weird.
21:27So he must have
21:28took something
21:29to the face
21:30to the point
21:30to where he needed
21:31to pull over
21:31and kind of wipe it.
21:33but hey,
21:35at this point,
21:36this is your
21:37opportunity.
21:38This is your championship.
21:39So you're going to
21:40continue to fight
21:40by every point.
21:42And to me,
21:43he looks like
21:43he's riding good.
21:45It's just unfortunately
21:45he doesn't have
21:45any goggles
21:46and being on the track
21:48that's even more
21:49difficult to pass.
21:50I'm sure it's tough
21:51to leave by Kitchen
21:51immensely,
21:52but he's doing
21:52a good job.
21:54And there you see
21:55the championship points
21:56as they run right now
21:57would be Kitchen
21:58losing that red plate,
22:00that point lead
22:00to Davies.
22:01It'll be a 14-point gap.
22:03And normally
22:03that would seem
22:04like a big one,
22:04but it's just been
22:06so many swings
22:06in this series.
22:08Really never know
22:09what type of lead
22:10is safe.
22:11The Kitchen
22:11is definitely
22:11struggling right now
22:13trying to cling
22:14to anything.
22:1512th right now.
22:16And this is where
22:17your mechanic
22:17becomes very important.
22:19Like his mechanic
22:20needs to tell him,
22:21hey, fight for
22:22every position,
22:23even if it's 16.
22:24The way this
22:25championship has been,
22:26like no point lead
22:27is safe,
22:28but I'm sure
22:29it's hard for Levi
22:30mentally because he
22:31was leading.
22:31Yeah.
22:32He came out,
22:32he needed a hole shot,
22:33he got that,
22:34and then everything
22:34seems like it's
22:35falling apart.
22:36But him,
22:37you got to try
22:37to remember that,
22:38and that's hard
22:39to do in the middle
22:39of the action.
22:40That's where you lean
22:41on your mechanic
22:41and your team
22:42to keep you rolling.
22:43He was under pressure
22:44from the 42 of Schwartz.
22:45Seeing Munir here running
22:47solid in fifth.
22:49Mumford up ahead
22:50in fourth,
22:51and it's starting
22:52to tighten up
22:53just a little bit.
22:54Hymas had that fast lap,
22:56got it to about
22:57four seconds
22:58on Davies.
22:59Now it's back
23:00to where it was,
23:01about five and a half.
23:03Hymas has been
23:03really the next in line
23:05for these race wins
23:06lately.
23:07Bunch of podiums
23:08as of late.
23:13Oh, that is Connelly
23:14who had that great run
23:15going last week.
23:16The Quad Lock Honda,
23:18that's a lot of steam,
23:19and that might be
23:20the end of the moto
23:20for the New Zealand native.
23:22Remember,
23:23he battled Kitchen
23:23right to the line
23:25at Unadilla.
23:27It's a tough break
23:28for him.
23:30Here's Hymas.
23:33Let's credit
23:33the third place rider,
23:34by the way,
23:35who's Landon Gordon.
23:36Remember,
23:36had a great run
23:37in a muddy,
23:38supercross this year.
23:39That's probably
23:40a bit of a surprise
23:41because he is
23:41a California native,
23:42but Gordon,
23:44his best career
23:44moto finish.
23:45Rookie is seventh.
23:48That was at Lakewood,
23:49and right now
23:50he's running third.
23:51JT, we might have
23:52a new mud rider
23:52on our hands.
23:53Yeah, he looks
23:54spectacular,
23:54and I don't even know
23:55that it's necessarily
23:56even mud anymore.
23:57He's been great
23:57all morning
23:58and all afternoon
23:59thus far,
24:00and as I look
24:01through the field,
24:02Gordon is certainly
24:02one of them,
24:03but he is one
24:04of four
24:05Monster Yamaha
24:06star racing riders
24:07between Cole Davies
24:08and Levi Kitchen.
24:09That's the power
24:10of having really
24:11good teammates
24:12in a big team.
24:14That's four positions
24:15that he is creating
24:16in this points championship
24:17between the leader
24:18and Levi Kitchen.
24:21Every bit helps
24:23late in the year
24:23like this,
24:24so Gordon is third.
24:25That is a lap rider.
24:27That's Larwood
24:27who had another good run
24:28also last week.
24:29That's the Australian
24:30250 champion,
24:32but he is a lap rider
24:33right now.
24:34This is Mumford
24:34who's next in line.
24:36Just another solid run
24:38from Mumford
24:39who's been doing
24:40this all summer.
24:41Yeah,
24:41this is becoming a norm
24:42and almost reminds me
24:43of March Banks
24:44in the 450 class.
24:45If he's not inside
24:46the top five,
24:47you're like,
24:47what's going on?
24:48It just shows you
24:49how much that team
24:50is to prove,
24:50but also Carson,
24:51we talked about it a year,
24:53just been able
24:54to build
24:54and get that confidence
24:56and now start to believe
24:57this is where I belong
24:58and see if he can
24:59just stay where he's at
25:00and continue moving.
25:02Mumford really wants
25:03that overall podium.
25:05Been in fourth
25:06and fifth a lot lately.
25:07That will be
25:08a career first
25:09overall podium
25:10for him.
25:11Had the moto podium
25:12earlier in his career
25:13and then another one
25:14earlier this season.
25:16Minear starting to close in.
25:20Minear was a little off
25:21at Unadilla.
25:23Spoke confronted himself.
25:24She read one of his letters
25:26in the Title 24 podcast.
25:28It goes like this.
25:28Here's a letter
25:29from Kate Manear
25:30Hey guys,
25:30why does Kate Manear fade?
25:32Signed, Kate Manear.
25:34He made fun of himself.
25:35So I went to the truck
25:36today to ask him about that
25:37and he's like,
25:37honestly, I didn't fade.
25:38I was just slow
25:39the whole race.
25:39Same speed,
25:41just slow.
25:41Hey, just consistently.
25:42I was consistently slow.
25:44Yes.
25:45So he said
25:46he's hoping for better results
25:47today
25:47and the young Australian,
25:49he is hilarious.
25:49That's what every conversation
25:50with him is like.
25:51Is fifth.
25:52Much better today
25:53than at Unadilla.
25:55That is another monster
25:56Yamaha star racing rider.
25:59And then DeFrancisco
26:00would be next.
26:01Turner
26:03Kitchen
26:04is still 12th.
26:06Time running out.
26:08Yeah, time running out.
26:10But I'll tell you
26:11all these
26:11riders that we're talking about,
26:13Manear,
26:13Gordon,
26:14possibly Mumford,
26:16DeFrisco.
26:16This is when you're going
26:17to talk about next year.
26:19These are going to be guys
26:20up here battling for this title
26:21as they get a little bit
26:22more experience.
26:24Bomer
26:26battling it out
26:27with Lux Turner.
26:28Lux started the year
26:29with a great performance
26:30at the opener.
26:31Had a mid-season slump.
26:32He's been better
26:33as of late.
26:34I asked him
26:35what the difference is.
26:36He said,
26:36honestly,
26:36I think when I have
26:37a good result,
26:37I start wanting it too bad.
26:39I get too excited.
26:41Had to learn
26:41to just roll with it.
26:43And it has been better
26:44for Lux as of late.
26:45Now running seven.
26:47Yeah.
26:47Well, I mean,
26:48he's got a lot of pressure
26:49in the household.
26:50We're going to see
26:51his sister,
26:52Lachlan Turner,
26:53who's winning
26:54our WMX championship.
26:56We're going to see her
26:56in a couple hours here.
26:58So Lux,
26:59got to represent the house.
27:00Can't have a little sis
27:01out there getting you done.
27:03Yeah, that's been
27:04quite the theme.
27:04Hey, we had Mayla Herrick,
27:05the rookie in that series.
27:06Had her brother
27:07hanging out with us
27:08in the booth
27:08before the show.
27:10And he's only on a mini
27:11right now.
27:11But he's going to have
27:12a high standard
27:13to live up to as well.
27:14There's a lot of these
27:15stories mixed in
27:16in both the WMX
27:18and the 250 classes.
27:20As for Bo Mair,
27:23decent performance.
27:24Gotta wonder
27:25what might have been
27:27the last couple weeks.
27:28He has been luckless
27:28as well and has lost
27:29some points to JT.
27:32James,
27:32I have a question for you.
27:33And for a long time
27:34ProMotorcross fans,
27:35this is going to resonate.
27:36If it's your first time
27:37watching,
27:37just bear with me.
27:38But James,
27:39does this track
27:39start to remind you
27:40of how the 2003
27:42racetrack shaped up
27:43where super muddy
27:44in the morning
27:45and then one line
27:46gets worked in
27:47and that one line
27:47is really dry
27:48and really good
27:49but incredibly difficult
27:50to pass unless
27:51your name is James Stewart?
27:53Yeah,
27:54it was.
27:55It was really muddy
27:55in that one.
27:56And he's going back
27:57to the race.
27:58Probably one of my
27:58best races ever,
28:002003,
28:00where I went from
28:0140th to 1st
28:02pretty quickly.
28:03But yeah,
28:04it reminds me of it
28:04a little bit
28:05because it was
28:06a hard base
28:07but yeah,
28:08I didn't have
28:08any problems
28:09passing.
28:09I blacked out
28:10and I was getting
28:12around everybody.
28:14Easy to do
28:15when you're way faster.
28:16You can find lines.
28:17Beaumair,
28:18his crew cheering him on,
28:19trying to get him
28:20further forward
28:21around Turner.
28:22They're saying
28:22three laps to go.
28:24That's rough math.
28:25Time will expire
28:26that there'll be two.
28:27They just went around
28:29Mosman,
28:30who's having a bad moto.
28:32He was a lap down.
28:34This is Kitchen
28:35without the goggles
28:37or of the heartbreak.
28:39Look at what this is like.
28:42Rotter looking into
28:43the soul of the champion
28:45right there.
28:46You know,
28:46wannabe champion,
28:48tough conditions.
28:49And imagine doing all that
28:51and having to pick,
28:52you know,
28:53pick ruts at speed,
28:55getting roosted,
28:56dodging other stuff
28:57and this is what
28:58these guys are going
28:58to have to deal with.
28:59But you see that face
29:00right there.
29:00That's determination.
29:01Never give up
29:02and that might pay off.
29:06JT.
29:07Yeah,
29:07just to add to the complexity
29:09for Levi Kitchen,
29:10it's not just that
29:11he can't see.
29:12You know,
29:12crashing on that first lap,
29:13your gloves get covered
29:15in mud.
29:16You can't,
29:16you know,
29:16you don't have the dexterity
29:18to hold on to the handlebars
29:19and use the clutches easily
29:20because you have mud
29:21all over your hands
29:22and also the insides
29:23of your pants.
29:24When you fall into the mud,
29:25you get covered in mud.
29:26You don't have as much grip
29:27so you can't squeeze the bike
29:29and you simply can't
29:30ride as well
29:31as a guy like Cole Davis
29:32or Chance Heimers
29:33put out front
29:33who are more or less
29:35clean from the opening lap.
29:36Yeah,
29:37and even,
29:38let me add it,
29:38it's billions of dollars
29:40on the line
29:40in a championship
29:41that's,
29:42hey,
29:42you got to do it
29:43but at the same time,
29:44is he going to get
29:44a BOGO special right here?
29:46He did one.
29:47finally got around,
29:48doesn't he?
29:48This is Daxton Bennett.
29:51Yeah,
29:51Bennett passed him
29:52a couple laps ago
29:53and he's about to go by
29:54and there's more traffic
29:55right in front.
29:56No,
29:56he doesn't go by
29:58but now there's Thrasher.
30:00That's Moesman,
30:00he's a lap down.
30:04Oh,
30:04that's brutal.
30:05You know,
30:06he just got roosted
30:07right there
30:08but yeah,
30:09he's making his way up there
30:11I mean,
30:11exactly what he's got to do.
30:14Like I said,
30:14when I watch him,
30:15he looks fine.
30:17You know,
30:17he's riding good
30:17but unfortunately for him
30:18with no goggles
30:19and disconditions,
30:22really tough
30:23out there.
30:25Let's talk about
30:26a guy who's not
30:27having a tough
30:27without a leader,
30:28Cole Davis.
30:303.6 now is the gap
30:31between Davies
30:32and Hymas
30:33but I will say
30:34I think we have seen
30:35from Davies
30:35he's kind of that
30:36new school.
30:37He only leads
30:38as much as he needs to
30:40so I don't know
30:40if this is a true
30:42charge from Hymas
30:45or if this is Davies
30:46just trying to maintain.
30:47I guess we'll know
30:48in two laps
30:49when the checkered flag
30:50comes out.
30:51Last opportunity
30:52for Kitchen
30:52to scratch some points back.
30:54Every spot he can make up
30:55is one championship point.
30:58Yeah,
30:59to go back to
30:59what you said with Cole
31:00I think it's a little bit
31:01of both
31:01because of how slippery
31:03his track is
31:04and with the mud
31:05it kind of tames everybody
31:06so your pace is
31:07kind of your pace
31:08and it really comes down
31:09to mistakes.
31:10You gain a couple seconds
31:11by a little mistake
31:12like Levi made
31:13you can lose
31:13a lot of time there
31:14so
31:16grabbed by all these guys.
31:19Levi digging deep
31:20and
31:22so
31:23I'm assuming
31:24you've ridden a moto
31:24without goggles
31:25for whatever reason
31:26at some point
31:26I mean
31:27what do the eyes
31:27feel like
31:28and he's got to get
31:28ready for a second moto
31:29you want to cut him out
31:31after the race
31:32yeah
31:33yo no Vaseline
31:34what is it
31:35it ain't gonna help you
31:36too much out of there
31:37but
31:37Visine
31:38yeah
31:38get about a gallon
31:40at this point
31:40you're gonna be dry eyes
31:42I hear
31:42but
31:43at the
31:44right now
31:44he understands
31:45what's on the line
31:46and
31:47you know
31:47for a championship
31:48we'll do a lot of things
31:49and that's including
31:50Ron without goggles
31:51in the mud
31:51so
31:53yeah
31:53they'll be flushing
31:54the eyes out
31:54I'm sure
31:55well done Levi
31:56fighting
32:06all right
32:07there is a
32:08ruling from the AMA
32:09it is going to be
32:10a four position penalty
32:11for Kitchen
32:12for this off the start
32:13off track
32:14yeah
32:15you can see Levi
32:15he's on the grass
32:17now
32:17the hard part for him
32:19you can see the way
32:19that the angle is
32:20off the start
32:21it basically puts him
32:22into the mechanics
32:23there
32:23so
32:24because of the mud
32:25it's probably been harder
32:26for him to get back
32:26but nonetheless
32:27he ends up on the grass
32:29inside those stakes
32:31those white stakes
32:32and that is the penalty
32:33so
32:34could have been a lot worse
32:35could have been more
32:36in four position
32:37but you add that up
32:38with a first lap crash
32:40in 11th place right now
32:41Levi's looking for
32:43outside
32:4415th place
32:45had to do a little JS
32:46five out of four math
32:47right there
32:48so
32:48he got it right
32:49well done sir
32:50as we watch Davies
32:51so
32:52you don't know
32:52if that was an actual
32:53strategy of Kitchen
32:55or do you think
32:55the way that it was
32:56angled
32:56he might have
32:57ended up on that grass
32:59even if he didn't
33:00intend to
33:01yeah well I didn't
33:02you know
33:03I hate to say
33:04what we have to say
33:04I don't think he went
33:05to the inside
33:06saying you know what
33:06I'm going to be on the grass
33:07because he also understands
33:08there's a lot of cameras
33:09he is your championship
33:10points leader
33:10and you know
33:11if you do that advantage
33:13somebody's going to
33:13call it out
33:14so I don't think
33:14Yamaha's team
33:15star racing
33:16I don't think he went
33:18to the gate
33:18saying I'm getting
33:19on the grass
33:19but you know
33:20at the same time
33:21he didn't think
33:21I'm letting off
33:22the gas either
33:22yeah
33:24Moseman also has been
33:25penalized
33:26we're going to show you
33:26what happened to him
33:27he takes three positions
33:29penalty from the AMA
33:31this is on the near side
33:36far left they say
33:37oh same thing
33:38on the right side
33:39as Kitchin was doing
33:41on the left
33:42he tried to make
33:43the ultimate gamble
33:44there
33:45it almost worked
33:45yeah
33:46and again
33:47to
33:48to end the defense
33:49because of the mud
33:50it's easy for these guys
33:51to lose the rear end
33:53and then of course
33:54off the gate
33:55you're not letting off
33:56you know
33:56so they end up
33:57on the grass
33:57they end up
33:58on the grass
33:58so fortunate for them
34:00that is a penalty
34:01you got to stay
34:01inside the markers
34:02but
34:04it's going to cost them
34:05yeah that would be
34:06if it ends like this
34:0715th for Kitchin
34:08and suddenly
34:10Cole Davies
34:10a point lead
34:11although the lead
34:12is shrinking
34:13it might have been
34:14management mode
34:14because two and a half seconds
34:16I think Heimitz
34:17is still getting closer
34:18but
34:20we're near the finish
34:21about four turns left
34:23and the teenager
34:24out of New Zealand
34:25I talked to his dad
34:26this morning
34:26said yep
34:27grew up riding
34:28plenty of mud
34:29back in New Zealand
34:29now said one thing
34:30hasn't actually
34:32ridden a 250F
34:34in the mud
34:35it hasn't been much
34:36mud riding
34:36since he moved
34:37to America
34:37but as a kid
34:38on minicycle
34:39one hit this
34:40no worries
34:41and he's proven it
34:43Cole Davies
34:44it's going to be
34:45four of the last
34:46five motos
34:47Cole Davies
34:48takes moto one
34:49at Buds Creek
34:51Hymas chases him
34:52to the line
34:52second
34:54and is Landon Gordon
34:55going to get his first
34:56moto podium
34:57he is
34:58the mudmaster
35:00from California
35:01yeah
35:02great ride by Landon
35:03you go back to his
35:03supercross
35:04in Cleveland
35:05the mud race
35:05got on the podium
35:06there so
35:07yeah
35:08they like the mud
35:09and two Yamahas
35:10on the podium
35:11which
35:11pond in the middle
35:13and Hymas
35:14would love to turn
35:15that second
35:15into an overall win
35:17the rebats
35:18comes in moto
35:18two later today
35:20but right now
35:21Cole Davies
35:22continues to do
35:23what he needs to do
35:24to win this title
35:31so Davies gets it done
35:33that's a big step
35:36as he retakes
35:37the points lead
35:37in the 250
