00:00One point in it between Levi Kitchin, the rider out of Washougal, Washington, and Cole Davies, the New Zealander.
00:07That's one thing to watch, but this class has opened the door for multiple winners, multiple podium finishers.
00:13A lot of riders with a lot to gain right now.
00:15Reds are up.
00:17Gates down.
00:19And Kitchin's going to use the line on the inside.
00:22He tried to get up on the grass.
00:24And it's going to work.
00:25The 47 has his first hole shot of the year.
00:28And guess who's in second?
00:29We got Cole Davies, one and two in the points.
00:32It's exactly what we wanted.
00:34That's where you talk about your championship contender.
00:36They get out there and make it happen.
00:38Now, they didn't have a parade lap, so they don't really know how this track's going to be.
00:41It's a lot different than what they were earlier.
00:43But nonetheless, it is.
00:45Here you go.
00:46And what did I just say in the keys to the moment?
00:48You want it?
00:49Well, go get it.
00:50Cole Davies and Levi Kitchin, they're trying to get it.
00:53Long race to go.
00:54But what can you say about Kitchin, who has struggled with starts this year?
00:57They've gotten better, but he has not been close to a hole shot until right now, when
01:01he needed it most.
01:02Clutch for the 47.
01:04And now, Hymas has made the move on Davies.
01:07Yeah, good start by chance.
01:08It looks like he's trying to make the move on Levi.
01:11Now, what you're going to see is these guys execute that start.
01:14And then they'll probably try to calm down.
01:16Maybe everybody outside of Chance Hymas, he wants to get up front.
01:19As Levi almost goes over the handlebars right there.
01:21But that's why I was going back to, Jason, that they haven't done a parade lap, so they
01:25don't really know they're testing it out as they go.
01:28And I've got to imagine, there's so much risk in it.
01:30If Kitchin were to go down right now, it would ruin all the hard work.
01:32And it just happened!
01:36Unbelievable!
01:36How quickly can he get up the field?
01:38Oh, no.
01:39He dropped the bike a second time.
01:41Oh, man.
01:42Bummer for Levi.
01:43But you can see how spread out the field is.
01:46I mean, he's probably going to get inside the top 20, but that is costly.
01:50And going back to my point, they haven't had a parade lap, so he wouldn't know that.
01:54Yeah.
01:55Oh, you could see multiple times on that first lap.
01:57And I'm sure he was not alone with just hitting soft spots that the riders would not be aware
02:01of.
02:02Oh, and Landon Gibson just got it as well.
02:04So, again, Kitchin's not alone in this, but this was the most costly.
02:09Yeah, watch this.
02:09He goes to lean back.
02:11It looks like he's just starting to lose the front as Cole Davies slows down.
02:15But, man, Levi, this is the opportunity you needed.
02:18You needed a good start.
02:19Makes a small mistake.
02:21Comes up a little short on this.
02:23No big deal.
02:23He's leaning back.
02:24It just loses the front end because they put a little bit of it.
02:27They worked on the racetrack there.
02:29Oh, man, that's tough for Levi Kitchen.
02:31Oh, man.
02:32We'll get it.
02:33It's 17th.
02:34He's in 17th right now.
02:35Chance Hymas to the lead.
02:37He has proven to be a mutter.
02:39Won a Supercross in these conditions last year, JT.
02:43Yeah, that's exactly where I was going to go.
02:45Listen, he hails from Pocatello, Idaho.
02:47Idaho spring and fall, a lot of wet weather, a lot of mud riding, and he used to race a
02:52lot of off-road races as well.
02:53So, inclement conditions right up his alley.
02:56And exactly like you said, Jason Foxborough, 2025 was his breakthrough main event win in conditions not so different than
03:03this.
03:03And you can see him going for the throat.
03:05Immediately made the move on Davies, putting pressure on Kitchen.
03:09And, by the way, if someone new, like Hymas, were to win today, Hymas has not won this year, he
03:16would make seven different overall winners in this season, which would be a record for the class.
03:22Yeah, this class is wild.
03:24And, as I was saying, like the opening laps, you want to get a good start.
03:28But you can see how different Chance is riding right now.
03:30He's very aggressive.
03:31Now he's starting to kind of chill it out, let these lines form.
03:34And this track's only to get more difficult.
03:37As these grunts get a little bit deeper, these guys are going to start bearing the motorcycle.
03:41So, the real task starts now.
03:43Let's go to Will.
03:46Just looking at Chance, Hymas, I know it's early days in this moto right now out front.
03:50And I'm going right back to our conversation that I had with him today.
03:53Where he's like, oh, would I like to get a moto win in these last two rounds?
03:58It's something.
04:00Oh, there's something.
04:02There's something.
04:02Tripled up and just roosted our drone.
04:05I feel like I caused that.
04:06I feel like I caused that.
04:07He just, the opportunity was there today with the weather.
04:11It still is.
04:12But, yeah, for Chance, guys, he wants this so badly with four to go.
04:15But it's kind of like he's in that place, James.
04:18We've talked about with Chance, Hymas, where he's trying to keep everything relaxed.
04:21He's not trying to force anything.
04:23But he's just talking to me about what a tough balance that is to want it so much,
04:26but still have to put yourself in that place.
04:28Yeah, well, I think for him, he's got a great group of teammates around him.
04:32Jet Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, you know, two of the best ones in the world.
04:35So he's got a lot of help there, but you've got to thank Lars and Honda and those guys
04:40kind of allowing Chance to be able to do that.
04:43He's doing a great job, but I know he wants more, and he will eventually.
04:46And Davies wants it back.
04:47He's really ramped it up.
04:48Hymas got around him and was pulling a gap.
04:51Next time around, Davies able to make the move.
04:53It looks like Chance goes to the inside and, or excuse me, Cole goes to the inside,
04:58makes that pass.
04:59Like I said earlier, these guys are going to get out here, these opening laps,
05:02they're wide open, then they're going to calm things down.
05:05But Kareem brought us to the top, excuse me.
05:09You've got Cole Davies out front with almost three-second lead already.
05:12Kitchin is 12th.
05:13Well, really unlocked that pass as that Davies went for the triple uphill.
05:18And how much do you think Davies just almost sat the first lap out, used that as his sight lap?
05:24He got a lot faster on lap two.
05:25Well, I think with Levi being out front and then Chance passing him,
05:29he obviously wanted to sit back because he was worried about the track conditions.
05:32But you also don't want to be too close to a guy.
05:34So I think he sat back as long as he didn't have that pressure behind him.
05:38And then once he saw Levi go down, you know, now he kind of understands.
05:41Calm down, let's get this track going, this race.
05:45Crowd cheering Davies at the top of the hill here.
05:49Got Landon Gordon third, Katie Meneer fourth, Lux Turner fifth.
05:53Volmer, Mumford, Dudney, Brown, and Thrasher top ten.
05:57Then Kitchin in 11th.
05:58Long way to go, though.
06:00So far, exactly the other 37 wanted it.
06:03There is Kitchin in the bottom box trying to move into the top ten.
06:07Got to get around Thrasher and Brown.
06:08Yeah, Levi's got to just continue moving.
06:10He's actually making up some good time.
06:12And when I talked about this earlier on Race Day Live, because of how this track spread out with the
06:17mud,
06:18that, hey, you're going to have a huge separation between, like, the first to fifth in these opening laps compared
06:23to other races.
06:24So when Levi went down, he didn't lose too many positions because the gap, the group has already kind of
06:29spread out.
06:30So here he goes, as you can see, guys making mistakes.
06:33It's just got to be careful not to get caught up into this.
06:36Well, people love to ride Bugs Creek, but James, it's always been said it's one of the tougher tracks to
06:41make passes on.
06:41And in these conditions, even tougher.
06:43Kitchin trying everything he's got.
06:45JT.
06:45Yeah, Kitchin moves through the field.
06:47But, you know, just thinking about Cole Davies overall in 2026, it's really been a season of answering questions.
06:52You know, first, he goes out and proves he can be the guy winning that Monchini Supercross championship.
06:58Then you come into motocross, and everybody's asking, well, can he do it in motocross?
07:01We haven't really seen it yet.
07:02Well, here he is answering those questions.
07:04And the final one I had was implement conditions.
07:07You can throw a purple ball at him.
07:08How will he respond?
07:09Yet here he is again giving a good start and riding away with his first moto, Will.
07:14And, JT, the questions are there because we haven't seen them.
07:18When we look back to last year, it was only this moto and last weekend in Unidale that he even
07:24did.
07:25So we don't have anything to look at.
07:26It's not that we're saying he's not a good mud rider or he's not a good motocross rider.
07:30It's just that we haven't seen it yet on a 250.
07:32And talking to his dad this morning, he's like, well, even mud skills.
07:36He grew up in New Zealand.
07:37Yes, he's ridden a lot in the mud.
07:40But on a 250, no.
07:42On 85, yes.
07:43On a 250, no.
07:44So every time we see him answering those questions, JT, we're also seeing him in the process of learning something
07:50new.
07:51And now with a five and a half second gap of the lead.
07:55Quick learner, no doubt.
07:56Cole Davies, he figured out even just the difference in the first and second laps out here where he lost
08:01positions and gained them back.
08:02Here is Kitchen still working.
08:05He's made it around Brown and Thrasher now looking to pass Caden Dudley.
08:10Yeah, another teammate to Cole Davies.
08:12But again, Levi's actually doing really good as he's trying to make pass.
08:16He's got to worry about somebody else coming up in between you trying to make that pass.
08:20But very hard conditions to do it as you see him slipping and sliding.
08:24But here we're going to go back to the crash.
08:26You can see him lean back, lose the front end.
08:28Kind of a hard hit right there.
08:30But fortunate for him, he's able to pick up.
08:32Now watch this.
08:33He goes off track.
08:34AMA is going to review this because he did get off the track.
08:37And then they're going to review how fast did he go off to the side because that can be a
08:42penalty.
08:44I'm not the referee, but it didn't look like he gained any positions while he was off track.
08:47But it is being reviewed.
08:48He's on the gas right now.
08:50Look at him trying to square up on Dudley.
08:52It almost worked.
08:52I think he was trying to stay on the racetrack as he almost goes down.
08:56I'm getting credit.
08:57Yeah, no, it was a good one.
08:58I'll give it to you.
08:59But probably a scary position to be in for Levi a little bit because you've got Pierce Brown.
09:04And I'm not saying any of these riders do anything, but that is Cole Davies' teammate.
09:07So as you're trying to pass another teammate, you have another one behind you.
09:11Leave that door open.
09:12You might not need any invite to walk through that door as Levi tries to get through, JT.
09:19Yeah, James, one of the things that we're going to talk about more in this moto,
09:22and it's relevant for Caden Dudley, is he doesn't have any goggles left.
09:25We see Levi Kitchen still okay in that department.
09:27But the longer this race goes on, there's so much roost and water being thrown off
09:32because the dirt is so loose and there's just so much from them fixing the racetrack.
09:36It's going to be a miracle if anybody has goggles up at the end of this thing.
09:40So for Dudley, he's trying to do everything he can to keep Kitchen behind him
09:43because if he doesn't, and this Kitchen may go right by right here,
09:46he's not going to be able to see in the next few corners right afterwards.
09:49Yeah, I agree with that.
09:50You can see the tear I was hanging off Levi's goggles,
09:52but did you notice the slight hesitation Levi had when he went to go make that pass?
09:57I think he felt like he had it, but for sure he's aware of the situations that's going on,
10:03but nonetheless, continue fighting.
10:06All right, actually, we have a correction here.
10:07The AMA is not reviewing Kitchen for the off-track after the crash.
10:11They're reviewing the start where he gets up on this grass.
10:16Let's see what's going on.
10:17Uh-oh.
10:21Definitely inside the markers, I'm going to say that.
10:24Again, I'm not the referee.
10:26So that is under review.
10:28And I don't know what the precedent for penalty there would be.
10:32Look, if you're the 47, you can't think about anything like that right now.
10:35Oh, do I see tear-offs hanging?
10:39Not even more.
10:40Got one straight?
10:40Yeah, he's pulling.
10:41It seems like he still has them on.
10:42I saw those tear-offs as he was pulling another one.
10:45But, yeah, that start situation was a little difficult because basically he was off the track.
10:49He ran off the track on an accident the way that wheels.
10:52But we'll find out.
10:53AMA will do a great job at figuring it out and see what happens.
10:56But, like you said, now he's doing a little wipe.
10:59So as JT was saying, Dutton didn't have goggles.
11:03Starting to see Levi Kitchen use his hands to wipe.
11:05And that's going to be a tough break here.
11:07Oh, no.
11:08So it's happening he's out of tear-offs.
11:09Yeah, it looks like he started seeing that.
11:11Yeah, it looks like he might have pulled and then obviously pulled all of them.
11:14But because of this mud, it's sticky so you only get a couple times where you can wipe
11:20before you can't even see him and he's pulling them off.
11:23JT.
11:23I'm just going to go back to one of the rounds from Supercross.
11:27We talked about this and the difference between roll-offs and tear-offs
11:30and why I'm such a fan of roll-offs in this situation.
11:33It basically comes down to you can have up to maybe 28 tear-offs.
11:37That's the maximum you're going to be able to see to him.
11:39But roll-offs, that different type of goggle system where it's almost endless film,
11:43you have 200 individual pulls on a set of roll-offs.
11:47And I know that younger generation, they white tear-offs, they grew up with him.
11:51But I think in conditions like this, you end up paying too big of a penalty
11:54if you do run out of tear-offs.
11:56We may see Levi Kitchen dealing with that right here.
11:58Yeah, he's under fire now from DeFrancisco probably because of the vision.
12:02Instead of attacking Dudley, he might lose a spot here.
12:05And there goes Ryder D.
12:08Desperate times now for the 47.
12:10This is not what he wanted.
12:11Yeah, that outside line was working earlier, but he just got a little too,
12:14and it looked like he might have pointed to his goggles or something there.
12:19At this point, it really doesn't matter.
12:21You've got to keep going and sacrificing.
12:23Some guys will pull in, but Levi being one point, there you go.
12:27He's done.
12:28Tossing the goggles.
12:3018 minutes and two laps left in this moto.
12:35Yeah, that's going to be a hard situation because his track is slow,
12:39and because of this mud, he's actually getting roosted by his own bike.
12:42The front tire, the mud comes off kicks, and you can see how sticky it is.
12:47He's probably going to have to deal with that the whole race.
12:49Oh, man.
12:50Now, explain the roll-off versus tear-off situation.
12:52Yes, the roll-offs, the film across the goggles, there are more pulls.
12:55That sounds like the easy choice, but explain why some riders don't necessarily want to run that.
13:00Well, it basically cuts your vision in half, maybe even more, when you run the roll-offs.
13:04And so when you have that, it's like putting glasses on inside.
13:08It shrinks everything down.
13:10You really can't see as good for me.
13:12And I felt like when I had them on, it just made me tight.
13:15I couldn't see the vision.
13:17I couldn't feel the other riders around me.
13:19So I think it's more of a feel thing because of your vision.
13:22And clearly, going at these speeds, you want every opportunity to be able to see.
13:27But as JT said, when you run out of tear-off, you have this situation you have.
13:31So it is a 50-50.
13:34Levi did what he needed to do.
13:35He executed the start.
13:36Just didn't finish that first lap off.
13:39Davies has pulled it to 5 1⁄2 seconds.
13:41His kitchen is in 10th.
13:44Going to try to hang with DiFrancisco here.
13:46Made the move on him.
13:48Gordon, 3rd.
13:50Mumford, 4th.
13:51Vineyard, 5th.
13:52JT.
13:53Well, just thinking through this equation right now, and certainly this is not going to be easy moving forward.
13:58And especially if he tries to go back after Ryder B and Kate Dudney, he's going to get roosted in
14:02the eyes and not be able to see immediately.
14:04So then you start to think, well, what does the math look like if he pulls into the mechanics area
14:08to get new goggles?
14:09Can he make up enough time once he has clear vision again to offset the time he would lose by
14:15going to the mechanics area?
14:16I'm sure it's something he's thought about right now.
14:18It's going to be an interesting one to see how it plays out.
14:21But so far, he's decided to not pull in.
14:23Well, he pointed last time around to the goggles when he went by the mechanics area.
14:28Here's the drop down.
14:29What will he do?
14:30Right hand turn after this is where he would stop if he's going to.
14:34Yeah, so what I think is going to happen is now he pulled his goggles off.
14:38If I'm assuming he'll probably go another lap.
14:40So if he's going to pull in, it would be this one.
14:42He wanted to let the guys know.
14:43So they're prepared because you really don't know.
14:46And I'm with JT.
14:47If he's not moving forward, then you probably have to take that chance and go.
14:52Obviously, he has a lot of speed.
14:53But at the same time, if you can't pass these guys because you can't see and be in the track
14:57that's one line,
14:58it's going to be difficult for the 47 to pull in.
15:03Yeah, looking at some of the gaps, just to give you an idea, say 15th place is 12 seconds behind
15:10him.
15:10He could go further back than that if he stops.
15:15Starting to close back up to DiFrancisco.
15:19Halfway through, reminder to stock up on Monster Energy at 7-11.
15:23He has caught DiFrancisco, but DiFrancisco has caught a pack.
15:27You've got Dundee, Bomer, Turner, Muneer, all in sight.
15:32Yeah, and for Levi, it probably makes it even more difficult to pull in because you have these guys in
15:38here.
15:38And, you know, the hard part now, and it's easier for us sitting here talking about it.
15:43This is where, if you're Levi Kitchen, you've got to think,
15:45man, I'm going to lose points lead at this moment, but I've still got three motos left.
15:49So, how can I, you know, execute this race to death as many points as I can and not throw
15:55it away?
15:55But it's going to be harder to do, Will.
15:57I just checked with the team, James, and asked them, and at this point, their words were,
16:01I doubt that he'll be coming in from the goals.
16:03I don't know if that's going to be my decision or whether that's the team letting you know.
16:07But nothing's written on the football right now.
16:08No one is coming to get the change now.
16:11All right, thank you.
16:12And DeFrancisco just showed him some lines to make moves.
16:15Ryder D moving forward.
16:16He got around that group, or at least several of them.
16:20So, DeFrancisco up to eighth.
16:22Doug D ninth.
16:23Bike is steaming.
16:25And Kitchen is right behind.
16:27Yeah, at the same time, if you're Levi, this might be the best case scenario in a sense.
16:31You almost want these guys to spread out.
16:33You know, being on track, there's only one or two lines out here.
16:36If they're in a pack, then that means you really can't go anywhere.
16:39But if they start spreading out, you're not going to be able to get them in bunches.
16:42But you might be able to see and make that pass on one guy.
16:47Trying to get around Dudney for a couple laps here.
16:54Yeah, I mentioned a steam coming out of Dudney's bike.
16:56That's often the first sign.
16:57And they told him to get off the clutch.
16:59That's often the first sign of the bike.
17:00It's getting hot.
17:01Now that water is turning to steam.
17:03And the first thing they tell the rider is, don't use the clutch.
17:07That's what creates that heat.
17:10But how hard is it to ride in these conditions, especially, without using the clutch?
17:15Well, I mean, it's really hard.
17:16I mean, I was a guy that never really used a clutch, you know, for me.
17:19And it was still.
17:20I used quite a bit in the mud.
17:22More so.
17:23Yeah.
17:23So if you're a guy who revs it, I feel like the mechanics, they know their rider.
17:27If they know they run a clutch on the dry or use it a lot, then that's the first thing
17:31they do.
17:31Get off the clutch.
17:32You know, the bike gets really hot.
17:33Especially in these situations when it slows down.
17:36And even more, another corner here.
17:39The bike is buried.
17:40The RPM is dropped.
17:41They have to use the clutch to build the power back up.
17:43So easy to get a bike that's starting to smoke in this field.
17:47And that maybe could go to Kitchens' advantage.
17:51But the thing we mentioned on the show before, can Dudley even see that?
17:55He probably doesn't even know.
17:57Well, he ain't got no goggles.
17:58I don't know if he can see anything.
18:02Yeah.
18:02Many times we've asked riders about, oh, what was the deal with your bike steaming?
18:06And they didn't even realize that.
18:08Because you can see it's below where he could actually see it.
18:12It has stretched out now.
18:15Davies takes a look back.
18:16He's maintaining a five and a half second gap.
18:21Man, what can you say about this kid?
18:24The maturity beyond his years.
18:27We mentioned the mindset.
18:28He had one moto at Millville a couple races ago where it did fall apart for him.
18:32But for the most part, early in his professional career, really the mental side of just doing
18:37what he has to do week in, week out, he's done it.
18:40Absolutely.
18:41And when you go back to that moto at Millville, ever since then, the last four motos, he's
18:45won three of them and got second to another one.
18:48So you talk about rebounding and coming back.
18:51That's what this kid does.
18:52We've seen him do that in Supercross.
18:54And what's even more impressive is that it's a different scenario here in motocross.
18:59Will?
19:01Yeah, and they were talking about rebounding James.
19:03I'm going to talk about last week, too, in that first moto.
19:07He had a, Cole Davis had that big crash in the practice rounds there.
19:12And I got to speak to him and his dad and the team and ask just how bad that was.
19:16And I said, it was bad.
19:18It was bad enough that he was in a lot of pain going into moto one.
19:22And, you know, he doesn't make excuses.
19:24He's the kind of kid who just won't say too many words about it.
19:27So he said, I'm fine when asked.
19:29But truthfully, it was a challenge.
19:30They said it was kind of really halfway through that first moto before he started to kind of
19:34peel back to himself and into the second one until he was kind of riding to his potential.
19:39Obviously, we saw him win that second one there.
19:41So a massive effect from him.
19:43But what they did tell me, Wilhan, his mentor, team manager over there, he said,
19:47that was the most impressive ride for me from Cole.
19:50Because to see him dig that deep, go back out there, mentally overcome the crash,
19:56physically go out there and push himself past that point, that was huge.
20:00And so did him.
20:01I think that's just another lesson learned that we're talking here for this whole day.
20:06Yeah, absolutely.
20:07And going back to what I was saying before we started talking was just,
20:11what's impressive about this motocross championship is exactly what Will said,
20:15like the adversity compared to Supercross.
20:17Supercross, it felt like he had that pretty much in control.
20:20He was ahead the whole time.
20:21This one, he's had some up and downs.
20:23He had that billboard race.
20:24But even last weekend, what Will was talking about him overcoming,
20:28we talked about this on the broadcast, was that the way he crashed, it was a scary crash.
20:33So as a rider, that can happen anyway.
20:35And you can see him build throughout that first moto to eventually in the second moto,
20:39look like a whole different dude.
20:40And that's Cole Davey, resilient.
20:42And when you look at this championship,
20:45he's really going out there and taking advantage of everything right now.
20:49Although Hymas just ran the fastest lap of the race, track drawing out, getting quicker.
20:54Everyone's lap times are getting better.
20:55But Hymas, most of all, cut that gap a little bit.
20:59Kitchen is all the way back to 12th now.
21:02He's got a replay here.
21:05It's going to be some roost.
21:07Remember, he does not have the goggles.
21:09Still battling Dudney.
21:12See where he's looking here.
21:18Yeah, you can see him taking a look down.
21:20Oh, wow.
21:26Yeah, that was kind of weird.
21:27So he must have took something to the face, to the point to where he needed to pull over
21:31and kind of wipe it.
21:34But, hey, at this point, this is your opportunity.
21:38This is your championship.
21:39So you're going to continue to fight by every point.
21:42And to me, he looks like he's riding good.
21:45It's just unfortunate he doesn't have any goggles.
21:47And being on the track, that's even more difficult to pass.
21:50I'm sure it's tough for Levi Kitchen immensely.
21:52But he's doing a good job.
21:54And there you see the championship points as they run right now.
21:57It would be Kitchen losing that red plate, that point lead to Davies.
22:01It would be a 14-point gap.
22:03And normally that would seem like a big one.
22:04But it's just been so many swings in this series.
22:08Really never know what type of lead is safe.
22:10But Kitchen is definitely struggling right now, trying to cling to anything.
22:1512th right now.
22:16And this is where your mechanic becomes very important.
22:19Like, his mechanic needs to tell him, hey, fight for every position.
22:23Even if it's 16th, the way this champion has just been,
22:26like, no point lead is safe.
22:28But I'm sure it's hard for Levi mentally because he was leading.
22:32He came out.
22:32He needed a hole shot.
22:33He got that.
22:34And then everything seems like it's falling apart.
22:36But him, you've got to try to remember that.
22:38And that's hard to do in the middle of the action.
22:40That's where you lean on your mechanic and your team to keep you rolling.
22:43He was under pressure from the 42 of Schwartz.
22:45You're seeing Muneer here running solid in 5th.
22:50Mumford up ahead in 4th.
22:51And it's starting to tighten up just a little bit.
22:54Heimus had that fast lap.
22:56Got it to about 4 seconds on Davies.
22:59Now it's back to where it was, about 5.5.
23:02Heimus has been really the next in line for these race wins lately.
23:07Bunch of podiums as of late.
23:12It's...
23:13Oh, that is Connelly who had that great run going last week.
23:17The Quad Lock Honda.
23:18That's a lot of steam.
23:19And that might be the end of the moto for the New Zealand native.
23:22Remember, he battled Kitchen right to the line at Unadilla.
23:27It's a tough break for him.
23:30Here's Heimus.
23:33Let's credit the 3rd place rider, by the way, who's Landon Gordon.
23:36Remember, had a great run in a muddy Supercross this year.
23:39That's probably a bit of a surprise because he is a California native.
23:42But Gordon, his best career moto finish.
23:46Rookie is 7th.
23:48That was at Lakewood.
23:49And right now he's running 3rd.
23:51JT, we might have a new mud rider on our hands.
23:53Yeah, he looks spectacular.
23:54And I don't even know that it's necessarily even mud anymore.
23:56He's been great all morning and all afternoon thus far.
24:00And as I look through the field, Gordon is certainly one of them.
24:03But he is one of four Monster Yamaha Star Racing riders
24:07between Cole Davies and Levi Kitchen.
24:09That's the power of having really good teammates in a big team.
24:14That's four positions that he is creating in this points championship
24:17between the leader and Levi Kitchen.
24:22Every bit helps late in the year like this.
24:24So Gordon is 3rd.
24:25That is a lap rider.
24:27That's Larwood, who had another good run also last week.
24:29That's the Australian 250 champion.
24:32But he is a lap rider right now.
24:34This is Mumford, who's next in line.
24:36Just another solid run from Mumford, who's been doing this all summer.
24:41Yeah, it's becoming a norm.
24:42It almost reminds me of March Banks in the 450 class.
24:45If he's not inside the top five, you're like, what's going on?
24:48And just shows you how much that team is to prove.
24:50But also Carson, we talked about it a year, just being able to build and get that confidence
24:56and now start to believe this is where I belong and see if he can just stay where he's at
25:00and continue moving.
25:02Mumford really wants that overall podium.
25:05Been in fourth and fifth a lot lately.
25:07That will be a career first overall podium for him.
25:11Had the Moto podium earlier in his career and then another one earlier this season.
25:16Muneer starting to close in.
25:20Muneer was a little off at Unadilla.
25:23He's poking fun at himself.
25:25She read one of his letters in the Title 24 podcast.
25:28It goes like this.
25:29Here's a letter from Cade Muneer.
25:30Hey, guys, why does Cade Muneer fade?
25:32Signed, Cade Muneer.
25:34He made fun of himself.
25:35So I went to the truck today to ask him about that.
25:37And he's like, honestly, I didn't fade.
25:38I was just slow the whole race.
25:40Same speed, just slow.
25:41Hey, just consistently.
25:42I was consistently slow.
25:44Yes.
25:45So he said he's hoping for better results today.
25:47And the young Australian, he is hilarious.
25:49That's what every conversation with him is like.
25:51Is fifth, much better today than at Unadilla.
25:55That is another monster, Yamaha star racing rider.
25:59And then DeFrancisco would be next.
26:02Turner.
26:04Kitchen is still 12th.
26:06Time running out.
26:08Yeah, time running out.
26:10But I'll tell you all these riders that we're talking about.
26:13Muneer, Gordon, possibly Mumford, DeFrisco.
26:16Like, this is when you're going to talk about next year.
26:19These are going to be guys up here battling for this title.
26:21As they get a little bit more experience.
26:25Gomair.
26:26Battling it out with Lux Turner.
26:28Lux started the year with a great performance at the opener.
26:31Had a midseason slump.
26:32He's been better as of late.
26:34I asked him what the difference is.
26:36He said, honestly, I think when I have a good result, I start wanting it too bad.
26:39I get too excited.
26:41Had to learn to just roll with it.
26:43And it has been better for Lux as of late.
26:45Now running seven.
26:47Yeah.
26:47Well, I mean, he's got a lot of pressure in the household.
26:50We're going to see his sister, Lachlan Turner, who's winning our WMX championship.
26:56We're going to see her in a couple hours here.
26:58So Lux got to represent in the house.
27:00Can't have a little sis out there getting you done.
27:03Yeah, that's been quite the theme.
27:05Hey, we had Mayla Herrick, the rookie in that series.
27:06Had her brother hanging out with us in the booth before the show.
27:10And he's only on a mini right now.
27:11But he's going to have a high standard of up to as well.
27:14There's a lot of these stories mixed in.
27:17In both the WMX and the 250 classes.
27:20As for Bo Mair, decent performance.
27:24Gotta wonder what might have been the last couple weeks.
27:28He has been luckless as well and has lost some points to JT.
27:32James, I have a question for you.
27:33And for a long time from motocross fans, this is going to resonate.
27:36If this is your first time watching, just bear with me.
27:38But James, does this track start to remind you of how the 2003 racetrack shaped up
27:43where super muddy in the morning and then one line gets worked in.
27:47And that one line is really dry and really good.
27:49But incredibly difficult to pass unless your name is James Stewart.
27:53Yeah, it was.
27:55It was really muddy in that one.
27:56And it's going back to the race.
27:58Probably one of my best races ever.
28:002003 where I went from 40th to 1st pretty quickly.
28:03But yeah, it reminds me of it a little bit because it was a hard base.
28:07But yeah, I didn't have any problems passing.
28:09I blacked out.
28:10And I was getting around everybody.
28:14Easy to do when you're way faster.
28:16You can find lines.
28:17Beaumair, his crew cheering him on, trying to get him further forward.
28:21Around Turner, they're saying three laps to go.
28:24That's rough math.
28:25Time will expire.
28:26There'll be two.
28:27They just went around.
28:29Mosman is having a bad moto.
28:32He was a lap down.
28:34This is Kitchin without the goggles.
28:37It's more of the heartbreak.
28:39Look at what this is like.
28:42Roder looking into the soul of a champion right there.
28:46You know, want to be a champion.
28:48Tough conditions.
28:49And imagine doing all that and having to pick, you know, pick ruts at speed, getting roosted,
28:56dodging other stuff.
28:57And this is what these guys are going to have to deal with.
28:59But you see that face right there.
29:00That's determination.
29:01Never give up.
29:02And that might pay off.
29:06JT.
29:07Yeah, I just need to add to the complexity for Levi Kitchen.
29:10It's not just that he can't see.
29:12You know, crashing on that first lap, your gloves get covered in mud.
29:16You can't, you know, you don't have the dexterity to hold on to the handlebars and use the clutch as
29:20easily.
29:20Because you have mud all over your hands.
29:22And also the insides of your pants.
29:24When you fall into the mud, you get covered in mud.
29:26You don't have as much grip.
29:27So you can't squeeze the bike.
29:29And you simply can't ride as well as a guy like Cole Davies or Chance Heimus put out front who
29:34are more or less clean from the opening lap.
29:37Yeah, and even, let me add, it's millions of dollars on the line in a championship that's, hey, you got
29:42to do it.
29:43But at the same time, is he going to get a BOGO special right here?
29:46He did one.
29:47He finally got around, doesn't he?
29:48This is Daxton Bennett.
29:51Yeah, Bennett passed him a couple laps ago.
29:53And he's about to go by.
29:54And there's more traffic right in front.
29:56No, he doesn't go by.
29:58But now there's Thrasher.
30:00That's Mosman who's a lap down.
30:04Oh, that's brutal.
30:05You know, he just got roosted right there.
30:08But, yeah, he's making his way up there.
30:11I mean, exactly what he's got to do.
30:14Like I said, when I watch him, he looks fine.
30:16You know, he's riding good.
30:18But, unfortunately for him, with no goggles and disconditions, really tough out there.
30:25Let's talk about a guy who's not having it tough.
30:27He's our leader, Cole Davis.
30:303.6 now is the gap between Davies and Hymas.
30:33But I will say, I think we have seen from Davies, he's kind of that new school.
30:37He only leads as much as he needs to.
30:40So I don't know if this is a true charge from Hymas.
30:45Or if this is Davies just trying to maintain.
30:47I guess we'll know in two laps when the checkered flag comes out.
30:51Last opportunity for Kitchen to scratch the points back.
30:54Every spot he can make up is one championship point.
30:59Yeah, to go back to what you said with Cole, I think it's a little bit of both.
31:02Because of how slippery this track is and with the mud, it kind of tames everybody.
31:06So your pace is kind of your pace.
31:08And it really comes down to mistakes.
31:10You gain a couple seconds by a little mistake like Levi made.
31:13You can lose a lot of time there.
31:15So, right by all these guys.
31:20Levi digging deep.
31:21And so, I'm assuming you've ridden a moto without goggles for whatever reason at some point.
31:26I mean, what do the eyes feel like?
31:28And he's got to get ready for a second moto.
31:30You want to cut him out after the race.
31:33Yeah.
31:33You know, no Vaseline, no Vaseline, what is it?
31:35It ain't going to help you too much out of there.
31:38But...
31:38Vizine.
31:38Yeah, Vizine.
31:39You can get it by the gallon at this point.
31:41Yeah, you can be dry eyes out here.
31:43But right now, he understands what's on the line.
31:46And, you know, for a championship, we'll do a lot of things.
31:49And that's including Ryan without goggles in the mud.
31:52So...
31:53Yeah, they'll be flushing the eyes out, I'm sure.
31:55Well done, Levi.
31:57Fighting.
32:06All right.
32:07There is a ruling from the AMA.
32:09It is going to be a four-position penalty for Kitchen for this off the start, off track.
32:14Yeah, you can see Levi is on the grass.
32:17Now, the hard part for him, you can see the way that the angle is off the start.
32:21It basically puts him into the mechanics there.
32:24So, because of the mud, it's probably been harder for him to get back.
32:27But nonetheless, he ends up on the grass inside those stakes, those white stakes.
32:32And that is the penalty.
32:33So, could have been a lot worse.
32:35Could have been more in four-position.
32:37But you add that up with a first-lap crash.
32:40And 11th place right now.
32:42Levi is looking for outside the 15th place.
32:45Had to do a little JS.
32:46Five out of four math right there.
32:48So, he got it right.
32:49Well done, sir.
32:50As we watch Davies.
32:51So, you don't know if that was an actual strategy of Kitchen.
32:55Or do you think the way that was angled, he might have ended up on that grass?
33:00Even if he didn't intend to?
33:02Yeah, well, I hate to say what we have to say.
33:04I don't think he went to the inside saying, you know what, I'm going to be on the grass.
33:07Because he also understands.
33:08There's a lot of cameras.
33:09He is your championship points leader.
33:11And you know, if you do that advantage, somebody is going to call it out.
33:14So, I don't think.
33:15Yamaha's team star racing probably.
33:16I don't think he went to the gate saying, I'm getting on the grass.
33:19But, you know, at the same time, he didn't think I'm letting off the gas either.
33:23Yeah.
33:24Moseman also has been penalized.
33:26We're going to show you what happened to him.
33:27He takes three positions penalty from the AMA.
33:31This is on the near side.
33:36Far left, they say.
33:38Oh, same thing on the right side as Kitchen was doing on the left.
33:42He tried to make the ultimate gamble there.
33:45It almost worked.
33:45Yeah.
33:46And, again, to the end of the defense, because of the mud, it's easy for these guys to lose the
33:52rear end.
33:53And then, of course, off the gate, you're not letting off.
33:56You know, so they end up on the grass.
33:58They end up on the grass.
33:58So, fortunate for them, that is a penalty.
34:01You've got to stay inside the markers.
34:02But it's going to cost them.
34:05Yeah, that would be, if it ends like this, 15th for Kitchen.
34:09And suddenly, Cole Davies, a point lead.
34:11Although the lead is shrinking.
34:13It might have been management mode, because two and a half seconds, I think Heinitz is still getting closer.
34:18But we're near the finish.
34:21About four turns left.
34:23And the teenager out of New Zealand, I talked to his dad this morning, said, yep, grew up riding plenty
34:28of mud back in New Zealand.
34:30Now, he said one thing, hasn't actually ridden a 250F in the mud.
34:35It hasn't been much mud riding since he moved to America, but as a kid on minicycle, look at this,
34:40no worries.
34:41And he's proven it.
34:43Cole Davies is going to be four of the last five motos.
34:47Cole Davies takes moto one at Buds Creek.
34:51Heimus chases him to the line second.
34:54And is Landon Gordon going to get his first moto podium?
34:57He is the mud master from California.
35:01Yeah, great ride by Landon.
35:03You go back to his Supercross in Cleveland, the mud race got on the podium there.
35:07So, yeah, they like the mud and two Yamahas on the podium, which honed in the middle.
35:13And Heimus would love to turn that second into an overall win.
35:17The rebats comes in moto two later today.
35:20But right now, Cole Davies continues to do what he needs to do to win this title.
