00:00Lawrence over Hunter, the stretch run for Motos begins now, jet lining up pretty close to the inside, Hayden Deegan
00:07next to him, the Monster Energy fast qualifier, Hunter Lawrence choosing to go a little bit further out from the
00:13inside, 40 riders, 30 minutes and 2 laps, and this is a big moment, and you can see the nerves
00:22start to rise, now the focus heads down toward the gate,
00:26the brakes are up, gates down, oh rockets start for Chet, too much, he wheelies, he's on that grass, Deegan
00:36is going to grab the whole shot,
00:42and here's down there, that's hand, oh Deegan almost goes down, Eli Tomek up to second, fighting, Hayden Deegan and
00:48Jet Lawrence, they didn't take a parade lap, so they're going to fill it out, but listen to this crowd,
00:56and Deegan got a lot of fans on his side this morning, staying out in the rain, jumping the uphill
01:00triple, listen to this,
01:06got heat from Hunter though, oh that was close by Hunter, he got a little wide right there, now he
01:14understands that Hayden didn't do that parade lap, so Hunter did, so he probably has a better feel of this
01:18racetrack, Hayden's going to be filling it out, so that's why you see Hunter
01:22trying to get around him, although he's trying to get around him, because of the ruse, good to see Eli
01:26Tomek up near the front, I'm sure the Buzz Creek foul, they're going to be cheering for him as well,
01:33listen to this,
01:42Deegan leads it, third hole shot of the year, Tomek's in the fight,
01:45Toronto fourth, and Jet Lawrence is 17th, this is Hunter Lawrence's opportunity.
01:50Yeah, you're talking about a rider who's resilient, I mean, what he went through last weekend, it's just emotionally, it's
01:57a lot, but that's who he is, responds back out here.
02:09Look at, down at the, the running order, Jet Lawrence's 17th, yeah, yeah, exactly, that's how bad that start was,
02:15oh Hunter squares up, Deegan and shoots by to the lead.
02:19Nice move by Hunter Lawrence, and maybe that's one of the benefits of him taking that parade lap, you would
02:23have known that outside was probably a little bit better, Hayden didn't,
02:27and the 96th is back up front, where he's been at most of the time this year.
02:32Now, explain to the other end why, if you're Deegan or Jet Lawrence, why you would not have taken that
02:36sight lap.
02:37Yeah, well, one of the things is, they have the luxury now, being able to watch the broadcast, so I'm
02:41sure they watched that 250 class,
02:43understand that the track's getting better, they knew they were going to do a little bit of work, so it's
02:46a lot different than what it was,
02:48so hey, you don't take it, you try to keep the mud off the bike, so that it doesn't get
02:52weighed down, hopefully get a better start, which he was able to do, and Jet wasn't.
02:58One lap down, and Hunter Lawrence's mission to get back into the points lead, doing what he needs to do,
03:04he leads, Jet Lawrence is way back,
03:07Hunter would actually have the points lead right now, but you know Jet's going to do some work,
03:10and will cover it with this Hearts Unlimited battle box, he is still in 17th.
03:17I know we've got a long ways to go, but, I mean, with all this, Hunter has the points lead,
03:22the way it runs right now, as you said, it's going to change,
03:24but you've got to love the way these guys love the way Hunter's responding, and look at Hayden Deegan,
03:29now understanding where the lines is, and because the track isn't that rough, and just like that 250 class,
03:35I think the way this track is, is going to keep these guys closer together, Hayden Deegan, he's smelling like
03:40he wants to put some guys in a danger zone.
03:43This is Jet, battling it out with Guillo, and this is going to be tough, he's back out of the
03:50points,
03:51he's actually back to 22nd place, he lost five spots.
03:56Yeah, earlier when I said he was in 17th, I know he got a bad start, but I actually thought
04:00he was a little bit farther up,
04:01so I don't know if there was a mistake, or that was generally a bad start, but for him going
04:06backwards now,
04:06he must have failed, or got caught up somewhere.
04:09Well, remember, he didn't take the sight lap either, so he had the bad start, and he was probably feeling
04:14his way around, in traffic.
04:15Yeah, for him, that 10-point lead, he understands that, hey, you know what, it's a long race,
04:19I don't want to throw it away, but sometimes when you do that, it puts you in these kind of
04:23scenarios,
04:24and we talk about it every weekend, this might be a bad track to be able to do that, but
04:29he's going to have to do it.
04:30We've got him highlighted here, Jet Lawrence gets in.
04:36Yeah, he was on the inside, that's where Kitchen was when he got penalized, now it wasn't nearly as far.
04:42Oh, and then he has a collision, that's what cost him, a collision in turn one on the very left.
04:47Is that Ferrandez?
04:50Yeah, I'm not sure who that is, and because these guys, that 180, they did a little bit of work,
04:54is very slippery, so guys are coming out of that corner trying to get on the gas,
04:58the rear end breaks loose, and he ends up catching Jet Lawrence.
05:02But obviously, there was something else that happened, because when we called it earlier, he was in 17th.
05:07Now he's down to 21st, and...
05:09Marzalizzi almost knocks the champ over, Jet completes that pass,
05:18and that is 20th.
05:22And there's chaos all around right now.
05:25Yeah, that was some chaos right there, as Vince Freeze goes down and he gets past JT.
05:30Well, the toughest part of this for Jet Lawrence is, one, he's not riding like typical Jet Lawrence,
05:34but two, there's really nowhere for him to go.
05:36The track is so unwinded and in traffic, he simply doesn't have other areas to go around,
05:41because if he gets out of the main line, he gets into that soft, muddy area, and he can't make
05:45moves.
05:46So, once he clears some of these guys and able to pick up the pace,
05:49maybe he can start to close some of these guys back down.
05:52But right now, the gap between he and the top 10 is really far, guys.
05:57Like, he has lost a ton of time on these first two laps.
06:00Yeah, and you're talking about going back to that 250 class, that's what I was explaining with Levi,
06:05and imagine not having any goggles, and the track's a lot better than what it was in that 250 class.
06:10So, Jet Lawrence has got a long ways, but we talked about it today,
06:13is when I was saying, because of the way this track is, guys, the field separates really quickly,
06:18and what you're seeing is Jet Lawrence, he's running 18th, but he's 38 seconds behind the leader,
06:25and normally at a normal racetrack, he wouldn't be that near that far back,
06:29but because of Bud's Creek and how difficult is the pass with the Bud,
06:32he's nine seconds a lap slower than what the leader's pace is.
06:37Bad time to get a rare bad start for the two-time champion,
06:42and now we hear the AMA is looking into Lawrence's start.
06:45He makes a quick move on Chambers.
06:48That'll move him to 17th, which is where he was earlier,
06:52but could there be a penalty coming?
06:54We will stay on top of that.
06:56Hunter Lawrence has pulled clear of Deegan by about three seconds.
06:59Tomac holding strong in third.
07:01Prado and Webb next.
07:03Then Barsha, Plessinger, Marchbanks.
07:05Malcolm Stewart, power, round out the top ten.
07:11Yeah, he's about 14 seconds behind 10th place here,
07:17so he's got a long ways to go, but he's got plenty of time to do it.
07:21As you can start to see, there's nobody in front of him.
07:24Rare to be this early in the moto, be it 18th,
07:27and there's really nobody in front of you.
07:2817th, excuse me.
07:30And then Hunter Lawrence, stretching it.
07:373.7 seconds is the lead over Deegan.
07:42And Hunter, what a rebound.
07:45Remember, he had the heartbreak in Supercross,
07:47came right back to win the Pro Motocross opener,
07:49right back up front today.
07:50And this guy's back in the front pack.
07:53The legend, the four-time champion.
07:55It has been a rough return from injury this summer
07:57for the Red Bull KTM of Eli Tomac,
07:59but he's in podium spot, and he's not letting Deegan go.
08:03I love what I see from him.
08:04And we saw a little bit of glimpses of Eli Tomac at first moto
08:08last weekend at Unadilla,
08:09being able to run inside the top ten and look solid.
08:12And because the way this track is,
08:14I actually think it's going to help a guy like Eli keep Hayden Deegan.
08:18He sees Hayden Deegan in front of him.
08:20The track's difficult.
08:21It's been over a year since he's been up in his position,
08:24and this crowd loves these two,
08:26Hayden Deegan and Eli Tomac running top three.
08:29That was a battle I was afraid we were never going to get to see
08:31because of Deegan moved up to the 450s at round one,
08:34and Tomac got hurt in the very first lap of that race.
08:38But it looks like Tomac is getting back toward his old form,
08:41and we might have a battle
08:44between a man who's dominated this class for years
08:47and the next big graduate into it.
08:50Yeah, and make no mistake,
08:52this guy you're seeing on the screen,
08:54you give him a little belief,
08:56he's able to close in on Hayden Deegan.
08:57This is Eli Tomac,
08:58one of the greatest riders ever in this field,
09:01and especially in motocross,
09:03as we're watching Jet Lawrence on the bottom right here,
09:06close that gap on those guys.
09:08He's not able to hit this uphill triple,
09:09but now he's starting to see those people in front of them,
09:13and every point from here on out is one point.
09:15Every pass, it would be one point.
09:19Up to 16th is Jet.
09:22He's going to need to make up nine more positions
09:24to get back to a tie with Hunter in the standings.
09:28Hunter right now would be the point leader by nine.
09:31So Jet's got a lot of work to do.
09:36Yeah, we're talking about the 250 class going on break.
09:39The question was,
09:40would they have these huge point swings?
09:42And it's like the 450 class just inherited that scenario.
09:47You're talking about 25-point difference
09:49between the last couple of motors between these guys.
09:5150 almost.
09:52Jet Lawrence makes another pass.
09:54Trying to get around Carroll here,
09:57rider out of New Jersey,
09:58rides a Club of X,
09:59certainly familiar with this track.
10:01This is one of the states nearby,
10:02and Jet is able to clear him around the outside.
10:09And that is 15th for the champion.
10:13He's in a tough spot right now.
10:16Yeah, I think we might have lost Beaton behind it
10:19because it looks like he's running 14th on the live timing.
10:22We saw Yamaha that Jet got by,
10:24got stuck on the inside of that corner.
10:26That might have been beaten.
10:27It was actually the Australian National Motocross champ
10:30coming in here and riding with the Lawrence
10:32the story of the week while he's in America.
10:34But, of course, the big story is
10:35the brothers battling for this title.
10:38Here's Jet's thoughts on it.
10:41Yeah, because, I mean, most of the year,
10:42it's been me chasing Hunter,
10:44so it's been different,
10:46but it's been good, you know.
10:47I don't think I'd want it any other way.
10:49You know, battling my brother for a championship
10:51is pretty awesome, so, yeah.
10:54Yeah, that has always been their motto.
10:56Yeah, I mean, I don't know if he has much of a choice.
10:59That's how good the Boat brothers are.
11:01They're just the best.
11:02But I saw that little wave that Dylan Brandis, Jet, gave him.
11:06Thank you note for getting by, Will.
11:09Yeah, he did, James.
11:10Just listening to that sound from Jet there
11:12doesn't quite kind of tell the full story
11:14of how it is for these two battling each other.
11:17And they get asked a lot of times, obviously,
11:19what's it like battling your brother, racing your brother?
11:21Well, they don't know any different.
11:23This is what they have done their entire lives.
11:25I got to talk to Dazzy, their father, earlier on yesterday,
11:29and he said, look, this is what we've always done.
11:31These boys have been doing this their whole life.
11:33We've basically learned that if we can go one, two,
11:36that is a win for both of them
11:39because there is only one top step.
11:41Only one of them can stand on it.
11:43So we can't ever have this massive celebration
11:45because there's always somebody getting second.
11:48So they've just adjusted to it.
11:49And this is what they've done their entire racing career.
11:52Yes, it's challenging for all involved.
11:55It's challenging for the team.
11:56It's challenging for their families
11:57because they're going up against each other.
11:59But that strong bond that you talked about, you guys,
12:02when you're talking about their brothers first,
12:05that ties them together.
12:06That's about upbringing.
12:07Dazzy said, that is how we have always been.
12:09That's how we always will be.
12:10You will always be brothers.
12:12And it's just a strong bond that keeps a family together.
12:15They ride as a unit.
12:17Heck, we've seen them jump on each other's bikes
12:21both at home and then on press day before the races
12:24just to try each other's setups.
12:25But right now, they are title rivals.
12:27And Chet is now up to 12th.
12:30Hunter has pulled a four-second lead over Deegan,
12:32who's up by three and a half over Tomek.
12:35Lawrence working on Mitchell Harrison here.
12:37Yeah, but, you know, his pace that Jett has,
12:40you know, he was 10 seconds down or 12 seconds down a lap ago
12:44on Malcolm, a little bit farther back than that.
12:47But he's going eight seconds a lap faster than these guys.
12:49So you're talking about somebody who's making a lot of time up,
12:52but you've got to be careful.
12:54Inside of Harrison.
12:55Harrison wants points.
12:56You see, he's on the bubble there
12:57to be automatically into the motos at the SMX playoffs.
13:01Battling with Justin Hill, who does not race pro motocross.
13:04So if Harrison can score a few points,
13:06that would guarantee him in.
13:07He wouldn't have to race the wildcard races at the playoffs.
13:10So all these riders have goals.
13:13But as we did see Christian Craig take a look over,
13:16we saw Ferrandez take a look over.
13:18It's like a few of them are showing respect
13:20to the guys that are in the championship fight.
13:21Yeah, absolutely.
13:22I mean, it's the same thing with most of the class.
13:25Except for when you get around teammates,
13:26you know, the other rider,
13:27then they might not make it as easy.
13:29But the cream rises to the top,
13:30and you guys understand guys going eight seconds faster
13:33than you.
13:34Probably be a little easier.
13:36Got Cooper Webb running top five here.
13:39Good to see the three-time Lost Energy champ out here.
13:44And Coop gets the old vibes,
13:45and he goes to Bud's Creek for a North Carolina native.
13:48This is considered a home race.
13:49I saw his mom and dad back in the races.
13:51You don't see that all the time with Coop any longer.
13:54But they got great memories here at Bud's.
13:56So he's running well.
13:57The next battle is this, Barsha.
14:00The trolley designs Red Bull Ducati
14:02and the Monster Energy Kawasaki at Marchbanks.
14:06Marchbanks has been almost an automatic top five
14:09a lot of this year.
14:10Barsha's going to try to stop that.
14:14Oakley racer update.
14:15It is Tomac third.
14:16Barsha there in that sixth.
14:18Miranda's 14th.
14:19Hampshire Bloss Smith round out the field
14:22of opening back riders.
14:23Nice move by Marchbanks.
14:25Yeah, Garrett's like, look, Justin, that's cool.
14:27But you know, I'm missing top five.
14:29So I'm going to need this position.
14:31Let's see if I continue moving forward.
14:33Got Cooper Webb right in front of him.
14:39Yeah, I just can't say enough
14:40about the riding of Marchbanks this summer.
14:41He has been rock solid.
14:43No, you can tell.
14:44And you can tell also the team's making the bike better,
14:48you know, continuing.
14:49And it takes a lot of hard work from all these guys.
14:51And Garrett's paying it off.
14:53Top fives.
14:54Even Mark Vinnisat.
14:55These guys out here.
14:56Yeah.
14:57Will.
14:59James, talking at Garrett earlier on today,
15:01obviously, like you said, the bike's gotten a lot better.
15:03They've made a ton of progress.
15:05So I said, what's been the biggest difference maker?
15:08What has made this season a success that it has been?
15:11And he pointed to a new relationship that he has with sports psychologists who he's been working
15:16with, he said, since earlier on in the year.
15:18He said he's always kind of had this problem of sort of like high nerves and anxiety on race
15:23day.
15:24And the biggest thing was just saying, hey, I know I've got to try and fix this part of
15:28it.
15:28Because it's not something that's massively talked about, James, through this sport.
15:32But Garrett's saying that it has made that much difference to him, that he feels like
15:36a different athlete on race day now.
15:39And he said that, obviously, along with all the work that the team would be putting in
15:42has just led to those top fives that you talked about.
15:46No, that's good to see.
15:48I mean, it just shows you at this level, you've got to work on all parts of your body.
15:52And the hard part is, I mean, all these guys are talented.
15:55And it really does come down to mentality and how you think.
15:59And Garrett's, whatever he's doing, is working.
16:01Glad to see the team has success as he has success moving around Cooper Webb for fourth
16:05position.
16:07Well, there it is.
16:08Fifth place for March Banks.
16:10Like I said, you can almost snap it before the moto begins.
16:13He'll find a way to get there.
16:14So he's around and made quick work of Webb there.
16:18We're halfway through this moto.
16:21A reminder, halfway, Mark.
16:22And you can stock up on Monster Energy at 7-Eleven.
16:27Who's this guy?
16:27Who's this guy that just passed it right here?
16:29His brother, my brother out here.
16:32That's Malcolm.
16:33Again, another rider Malcolm understands.
16:36Jets in the championship just makes it a little easier on him.
16:39And, you know, again, I think if Malcolm or any of these guys are up to pace, then it
16:43might be, they wouldn't make it so easy.
16:45But when you know a guy's coming up that fast, he's moving forward, all you can do is try
16:49to get on that tail and just don't want to get in the way at this moment.
16:53And look, I just feel bad for Malcolm, who says he's mud races.
16:56Does a number on the hair.
16:58That's a lot of work at the end of the day here.
17:00This is a concern in these mud races.
17:03Although, I got to say, not as bad as you would have thought for how much rain we had
17:08earlier to watch Hunter Lawrence work his way through lap traffic, but Hayden Deegan has
17:12taken that gap down to just 1.4 seconds.
17:17Yeah, I'm thinking Hunter has gotten caught up because I was looking at the lap times and
17:21Hayden was about a second and a half a lap ago.
17:24Then it went out to three.
17:26But you can see why.
17:28Hunter's getting caught up with these lap riders.
17:29And it's easier for the guy in second place if you catch him in the right spots.
17:33As they take a look over, they'll understand Hunter's there.
17:36They'll take another look and see Hayden and they'll continue moving over.
17:40So, I don't know if he's got through him, but Hayden Deegan, let's see if he gets through
17:44him as well.
17:45There you go.
17:46Well, Hayden's hustling right now.
17:47Got the double.
17:53We had a battle for the lead.
17:55Oh, Deegan almost got taken down by that lap rider.
18:00So, the story right now, of course, Hunter trying to make up for the error last week.
18:05We asked him about this season and those ups and downs yesterday.
18:13I don't know if you'd say lessons.
18:15There's things I still don't understand 100%.
18:18I feel like my kind of things that I could improve on is, I mean, what I feel like are
18:25really small mistakes have seemed to be the most costly for me.
18:29Which is a bit of a bummer, given the mistakes, in my opinion, not being necessarily massive
18:37errors on my side of things, riding side.
18:40But the consequences have been drastic, honestly.
18:44So, yeah, that's about it.
18:46But just probably put it behind me, learn to get up, shake it off, look for it, and not
18:53think about it in the past and just kind of carry on.
18:57That's probably what I'd take in the playoffs.
19:00Yeah, that's a tough position for Hunter to be in because he hasn't really made, it's easier
19:08if you make, let's say you just make a mistake.
19:10Oh, it's just going too fast and all this.
19:12But kind of his crashes this year have been so costly.
19:15There are things that can happen 10 times a lap, you know, essentially.
19:19And for him, they cost him a lot.
19:22See that radiated stride on the left-hand side of the motorcycle is hanging off.
19:27I don't know if he got caught up with something, but hopefully for him, not catching his boot
19:31as he throws his foot out there, really slowing him down.
19:34But I'll tell you one thing, Peyton Deegan, he is feeling it right now.
19:38Yeah, he's not slowing down, although he almost has to.
19:40Roughness ran into the back of the lap rider, JT, 38, on the move.
19:44He is really coming, guys.
19:46And this is probably the closest he's been.
19:48I don't have the stats in front of me, but this late Inomoto, this is the closest and
19:51most relevant he has been all season.
19:53And I wonder if this track would be a big part of that.
19:56When you look at Bud's Creek and what it rewards, you can be hyper-aggressive on this
20:00track.
20:01You see Hayden maybe overriding the situation, but that's what he wants to do.
20:05He wants to ride as hard as the track will allow you to.
20:08A track like Unigila won't let you get away with that type of thing.
20:12It will punish that.
20:12Butch Creek rewards it, and I think that's why you're seeing Hayden able to fight this
20:17late Inomoto compared to last week.
20:19Yeah, absolutely, JT.
20:20I agree.
20:21And I think the fact that the track's wet and it's not that rough, there's a certain
20:25pace that you can run here.
20:27And Hayden, clearly, he's feeling good today.
20:30He's looked good.
20:30He's the fastest qualifier.
20:32And he said earlier, like, he's not in a championship, so he's run really loose.
20:36You're seeing the improvements, but also you're seeing a guy who smells the opportunity, and
20:41these fans here at Bud's Creek can be behind at 38, see if he can do something with them.
20:55Down to the final third of this one.
20:58Ten minutes and two laps to go.
20:59Deegan looking forward.
21:02Wants a piece of Hunter Lawrence.
21:07And he is slinging some mud right now.
21:10And more lap traffic.
21:13Back to Jett Lawrence.
21:14Has he caught Harrop?
21:15Yes, he went seven seconds faster than Harrop last time around to catch the rider in ninth.
21:23Yeah, that's crazy to, like, seven seconds just to get ninth.
21:27You know, at this point, he's going that much faster.
21:29And that just shows you how spread out the leaders are.
21:33He needs to make three more passes to get back for a tie for the point lead.
21:40And he's working on Harrop, the rider.
21:44Out of Denmark.
21:46On the triumph.
21:47That's the battle in the bottom box.
21:48Hunter and Deegan.
21:50Deegan just cleared the lock traffic, and he has him in his sights.
21:54Yeah, that gap is close now.
21:55It looks like Hunter has a little bit of freedom in front of him.
21:59You know, about five, six seconds for another lap rider.
22:02So you're going to find out, is eight faster?
22:04Or was Hunter getting caught up as Jett Lawrence makes that pass for ninth place?
22:08See if Hunter pulls away.
22:10But all three riders riding really good.
22:14Shout out to Eli Tomac.
22:16He's running four if he got passed by Jorge.
22:18He was just ahead of him.
22:19So still top five for the chance.
22:21But this is the battle with eight minutes left.
22:23The young hate Deegan versus Hunter Lawrence.
22:28Bad lock for Tomac.
22:29That's where he got passed.
22:30I'm sure if there was an error, but he was in third.
22:32But ran a 213.
22:36Where the lead group here, 203s for Lawrence and Deegan.
22:40So I'd imagine a mistake for Tomac.
22:42He has lost a toe.
22:44Deegan hasn't.
22:46He's going all out.
22:49Yeah, you can see Hunter starting to stretch that gap out a little bit.
22:52And really kind of wondering about that radiator shroud, JT.
22:57Yeah, I wonder if it's maybe just taking his eye off the ball a little bit.
23:00You know, Hayden drops back a little bit.
23:02He's been making up a lot of time at the bottom of Henry Hill here.
23:05He's been going to this inside, and Hunter's been going outside.
23:08You'll see him close back up every single lap.
23:11He's probably making up at least half a second there.
23:12And it's those little sections of the racetrack that are keeping him in this thing.
23:16Not sure if Hunter's going to figure those out.
23:18But it's been a huge factor thus far.
23:20Well, he figured something out because he pulled it gaps.
23:24And kind of going back to my point, you know, Hayden's riding really good.
23:27But you were starting to wonder, was that Hunter?
23:29You know, he's got a better pace than Hunter?
23:32Or was Hunter getting caught up in lap riders where you kind of see that a little bit
23:35as Hayden's making a little bit of mistakes.
23:37And you're starting to see that bike smoke a little bit.
23:39So I'm sure the mechanic can tell him, easy, young buck.
23:42Easy.
23:42Get off that clutch a little bit as the bike's starting to heat up.
23:45But he ain't going to listen.
23:47Yeah.
23:47He ain't listening.
23:48I'm sure they've told him that many, many times.
23:50He rides that bike hard.
23:57Whoa!
23:59Hey, that was beautiful.
24:00What you talking about, Willis?
24:01Not there.
24:02You won't ever remember that.
24:03Look, he planned it that way.
24:04He planned it.
24:05He's looking good.
24:06I like some of these ruts.
24:07He's really just throwing it in some of these corners.
24:11Tell he's holding on to the bike.
24:12Look at the plastic.
24:15Hanging off the side.
24:17That's hanging off the side right there.
24:19Yeah.
24:19Over every jump.
24:23Look at this.
24:24A couple more positions made up.
24:27Jet Lawrence has passed Plessinger.
24:28I said he needed to get three to get back to a tie for the lead.
24:32Harapin Plessinger.
24:33He would now be down one in the championship.
24:37Next on his list would be Barsha.
24:39He's about five seconds ahead.
24:44Yeah, Jet really has an opportunity.
24:47Probably to get up to maybe sixth place Cooper Webb.
24:54Well, if Jet Lawrence wants points, here's a phrase he didn't think he'd hear.
24:58Hayden Deegan could be his best friend right now.
25:00Go ahead after Hunter.
25:02That would be three points to the good for Jet.
25:05I still don't know if Jet would root for that.
25:08But Deegan's trying.
25:10That would be some really family dynamics.
25:14Do you want those three points that much?
25:16Yeah, it would be questionable.
25:18But, you know, hey, if it ends like this, that moto last week kind of gets erased.
25:23Hey, it's knocking over the salt takers, knock the kitchen countertop, everything between brothers,
25:31because it's going to be winner-take-all with three races left.
25:34I saw a mom, Emma, is here this weekend.
25:36She'll be here at Iron Man as well.
25:38It's going to come down to the wire between the Lawrences.
25:42Five minutes and two laps to go.
25:45It looks like Lawrence has, Hunter at least, has survived that storm.
25:50What are you seeing down there in the mechanics area, Will?
25:54Just looking at Brent Duffy mechanic for Hayden Deegan, his pit board on that last lap,
25:59that last go around there, and he was telling him to get off the clutch.
26:02He said the bike is hot.
26:04I don't know what you guys are seeing, but that's coming from the mechanic.
26:07Oh, we saw it.
26:08Steam was coming out, and it has stopped.
26:11Oh, as I say that it comes back.
26:17So Deegan got it back to three seconds down on Hunter Lawrence.
26:22We now have an update on the Chet Lawrence penalty on the start.
26:25It is going to be one license point.
26:28That is not a position penalty, but one on his racing license.
26:32That could result in a penalty if you score enough license points as the year goes on.
26:37Let's bring on Mike Calatier, the racing director from the AMA.
26:41Mike, talk about this decision here to just do a license point penalty for Chet Lawrence with this start.
26:46Yeah, guys, thanks for having me.
26:47And I think it's important to explain the difference from the first moto in the 250
26:50that we saw Levi and Moseman do compared to what Jett did.
26:54So any time a rider is off the racetrack, race direction looks like they've gained a competitive advantage.
26:59That's the first thing that we determine.
27:01So in Levi's case and Michael Moseman's, they gained time and positions on the side of the racetrack.
27:07So that is a set penalty of positions gained,
27:10then plus one for the infraction itself.
27:12In Jett's case, we determined that there was no competitive advantage,
27:16any lost time and spots.
27:18However, we do want the riders to stay on the racetrack.
27:20So we just issued a one license point penalty.
27:23I got you, Mike.
27:25That makes sense.
27:25Yeah, I was curious on that.
27:26And so essentially, if you end up,
27:29there's some kind of penalty if you end up outside of those markers.
27:34That is correct.
27:35We really want the riders to stay on the racetrack.
27:37We've made a big effort for this year, especially using these license points now.
27:40So what we're really looking for is if they're gaining time or positions off that racetrack.
27:44If not, we still do want them to stay on.
27:46That's why we have license points now.
27:48All right.
27:48Thank you, Mike.
27:48We got to get back to this battle.
27:50Appreciate the time.
27:51This is Justin Barsha trying to hold Jett Lawrence off.
27:55And one more point would put Lawrence into a tie with Lawrence.
28:00Hunter and Jett for the lead.
28:01So Jett's hustling.
28:03Yeah, I think he actually is because we lost Marchpanks.
28:06If you look at Gary, he's down at 10.
28:07So that Jett.
28:09Yeah, they're even right now on the points.
28:12Well, that's what I get for saying you could just stamp Marchpanks in the top five.
28:17I've been jinxing riders all day.
28:19Also, Marsha, maybe not surprising.
28:21He's fighting for it.
28:23He's fighting a lot.
28:25He's fighting to hang on there, feet off.
28:27But that's what he done, being comfortable, being uncomfortable.
28:31See Justin out here.
28:36And there was only a few seconds to start this lap behind Cooper Webb.
28:40But these mistakes, the lap riders, you don't even see Cooper Webb in the shot.
28:44So they've lost a little bit of time.
28:46So Jett probably going to try to get around Justin if he wants to have a shot at getting around
28:50Cooper Webb.
28:51But the pace he's been running, he still have a shot if he can move.
28:55Number 51 on the Ducati out there.
28:59Yeah, a couple riders looking over, even waving Jett by.
29:02You're not going to get that from the 51.
29:06Fighting sixth.
29:08Webb fifth.
29:09That would actually be Webb's first top five moto finish of the year.
29:13It was close to it at Southwick.
29:14It might have it now.
29:17With a minute and two laps to go.
29:19Gap is about the same up front.
29:22Hunter Lawrence and Deegan.
29:23Prado is third.
29:25Then Tomac, Webb, and these two.
29:28Now going back to my point earlier when you saw my brother wave Jett by.
29:32And I said, well, yeah, the difference in speed, you know, you'll get guys doing that.
29:36But as you get closer to the front or whatnot, the guy's running the same speed as Jett.
29:40You might not make it as easy.
29:42Whoa!
29:43Marsha's not going to make it easy.
29:45Fighting Lawrence.
29:46And repasses him at the bottom of the hill.
29:48What'd you say?
29:49Correct.
29:49Well, I mean, Justin's a special case out there.
29:52But he's running a good, you know, pace.
29:54And top five's right in front of him.
29:56So, you know, I don't think Justin's going to do anything ridiculous.
29:59But at the same time, he is kind of running Jett's pace.
30:03Now there, this is where I was saying, like, he's not going to.
30:06He could have ran Jett off in that thing.
30:08But, you know, hey, he understands that championship.
30:11He's not going to make it easy for him.
30:13But he ain't going to do anything because of how close they are running.
30:17And with that pass, Jett Lawrence would now have the championship lead by one.
30:23Is there time to get this number two of Webb?
30:29It's going to be two to go.
30:31I mean, Cooper's right in front of him.
30:34He's probably going to feel the roost off of him in a while.
30:37So, as a shot, he's got to get through these lap riders.
30:41The question is, will he be able to move up even farther?
30:44If he's able to get around Cooper Webb for fifth place, Eli, about 15 seconds farther than that in front
30:51of these guys.
30:51So, yeah, that would be tough to get any further.
30:55But he's got a shot at Webb.
31:02Actually, by the time that clock expired, Hunter Lawrence had already gone by.
31:09So, it's going to be two to go the next time around.
31:13That's going to give Jett Lawrence one more lap to work with.
31:17Yeah, but the hard part is him and Eli are basically running the same lap.
31:21Oh, Webb's off the track.
31:22This is going to help Jett.
31:24And he goes by.
31:25I love how Cooper took his time right there.
31:28He's off the racetrack.
31:29Yeah, I'm going to put it in the take of your time.
31:32You should not, because here comes Barca.
31:34Yeah, no penalty there.
31:36No.
31:36I'm not gassing.
31:37If I could put it in reverse, I would.
31:39But I can't do it.
31:40No, the penalty could be because he's going to battle Bam Bam now.
31:44And we'll know he'll fight for it.
31:47That is going to be for sixth now.
31:48So, Jett Lawrence has done it.
31:49It's come from about 22nd to fifth.
31:55But it is going to be winner takes it at this point.
31:58Two-point lead.
31:59It would be for Jett with three motos to go.
32:00That can go any direction.
32:03Check back in with Deegan here.
32:06Yeah, I was looking at the time, and I thought we were just talking three laps to go.
32:10But it is two.
32:11I'm like, something's wrong.
32:11But that just shows you how far these guys out front, JT.
32:14You nailed it there, James.
32:16Look at the pace that they put in.
32:17They put 51 seconds until Jorge Prado, who was in this fight.
32:21He was in the fight to try to win this race a week ago.
32:24This shows you how hard those top two have been pushing.
32:27We haven't been focused on them the entire time,
32:29but they have been still dropping their lap times lap after lap.
32:33Yeah, these two are 51 seconds ahead of Jorge Prado, JT.
32:37You're right.
32:38But, hey, he's in the top three.
32:40Still a good ride by these guys.
32:44So, this is Deegan's rookie year.
32:47Still doesn't have the bow to win.
32:48Thought he might have an opportunity at it here.
32:50Checked in with Deegan.
32:51And on that rookie year and how he feels about it yesterday.
32:58Yeah, I'd say I'm pretty stoked.
33:00Obviously, there's things I need to work on.
33:02But even just this podium streak I got going,
33:04the amount of podiums I've gotten this season, I'm stoked on it.
33:06I'm going against a lot of good guys.
33:07So, obviously, you guys all know what my goal is.
33:10I want to win.
33:11So, it's going to take a little to get to that point.
33:13I'm working towards it.
33:14I'm working with the team.
33:15The team wants to win just as bad as me.
33:17So, they're trying their hardest as well, getting the bike ready.
33:19And I'm also new to this.
33:21I'm new to the 450s.
33:22So, some of my impact may not be good and some of it is good.
33:25So, it's taking a little bit of time.
33:29Yeah, when you look at the results, I'm sure Hayden wanted more.
33:32But I also think he understood and he saw the level.
33:37And he'll eventually get there.
33:38But he also understands, too, that you've got to have a motorcycle underneath.
33:42You've got to work as a team.
33:43There's a lot more things.
33:45He saw his talent coming out here, which Hayden has it.
33:47And that's what you're seeing.
33:48So, he's gotten better throughout the year.
33:50And it's only going to help him continue to build for the future and eventually get one of these wins.
33:56He put it on himself last week.
33:57Tried something pretty wild.
33:59The bike didn't work.
33:59But he said, that's on me.
34:01Better today.

34:31Hunter Lawrence.
34:33We've talked so much about his demeanor.
34:36This is twice this year that he has had heartbreaking moments and has been able to bounce back.
34:40That supercross finale, that was obviously a crusher when he crashed, battling Ken Rockson.
34:46Lost that title.
34:46A couple weeks later, back to win the Pro Moto Cross opener.
34:49Bouncing back from Unadilla with what would be a huge first moto win.
34:54I'm kind of shocked a little bit.
34:57I wouldn't say shocked, but just so impressed with this guy out here going through the things.
35:02And I almost don't really want to say much.
35:05I want to get across the checkered flag.
35:06But I'm so impressed by what he's able to do just mentally.
35:09It is so hard to overcome once what he went through this year in the Supercross season.
35:15And he stood there and he took it like a champ, came out, won the next race at Paula.
35:20And then to go through it again and then come out and possibly win the next single race.
35:26Had pressure from Haydeegan.
35:29And what can you say about the 90s that he is back in his championship with his brother.
35:33And truthfully, probably Jet, you know, he doesn't want to lose.
35:36But he's probably happy too because now they can really just go out there and race.
35:40And not worry about what just happened a week ago.
35:43It's going to be nearly even up.
35:45Hunter Lawrence erasing eight points of his ten-point deficit in the series in this moto alone.
35:54And a clutch ride for sure.
35:57Hunter Lawrence takes the first moto at Bunce Creek.
36:00That's a big one.
36:03Deegan across in second.
36:06Got off the clutch a little bit.
36:09Shout out to Cooper Webb.
36:11Yeah, keep it in sight.
36:13Got to thank Justin Barsham for that one.
36:16Yeah, he couldn't go any further back.
36:18Didn't want to go into the clutches.
36:21Well, you almost never see bad starts from Jet Lawrence.
36:23This is the worst-case scenario for that on a muddy and one-line track.
36:29And last year he had a moto where everybody went down, came from 18th to 1st, and it didn't even
36:34take that long.
36:36This time it took the whole moto to go from about 18th to 5th.
36:41Really good ride by Jet Lawrence.
36:43And, you know, he probably, in the back of his mind, got to think even Levi Kitchen from what happened.
36:50And what I mean by, because he, that start, he goes on the grass.
36:53Maybe if Levi didn't get the penalty, he didn't see that.
36:57Maybe he was gassing.
36:58He really shut it down because he understood what just happened.
37:01So, I don't know.
37:01Maybe he doesn't know.
37:02Jorge Prada ends up third place.
37:04Eli's going to come through in fourth.
37:06Great ride by Eli.
37:08And you got our champion here running fifth place.
37:12And people, here we go.
37:14Two points between the brothers.
37:17There's three points of separation between first and second.
37:20There you go.
37:22Jet Lawrence.
37:25And Hunter, no worries, Nate, with that one.
37:29Let's talk to you.
