00:00Here in the forecast feed, we're going to take more of a forecast-on-the-field type approach here,
00:06field conditions, if you will, for football.
00:08We've got college football, NFL action, and then we've got the ALDS and NLDS,
00:14the second round of the Major League Baseball playoffs,
00:17the American League and National League Divisional Series,
00:20eight remaining teams, six of which have outdoor venues,
00:23two have the option of a roof, one always has a roof.
00:26We're going to look at all this and the weather impacts,
00:28a huge, huge temperature contrast between two cities and the rest coming up for this next week
00:35in terms of temperature as well.
00:37Some will be near 100 this weekend playing baseball,
00:41while others are going to be layering up for some chilly nights.
00:44All right, let's take a look at the big picture here, and here's our weekend forecast.
00:47I'm going to make myself disappear here so you can see.
00:51The drenching thunderstorms in Texas are beginning to taper down.
00:54We have widespread showers and storms into the southeast, though,
00:59and as we look at the modeling here, I'm going to jump to a few different forms of this.
01:04But overall, at first glance, let's take you into the upper-level flow,
01:10and we're going to be dealing with, again, a setup that brings us some widespread areas of lift
01:17across the southeast.
01:18As that loads, I wanted to show you showers and thunderstorms.
01:21There's an enhanced area of rain right along the Gulf Coast.
01:24It's not going to be an organized tropical system,
01:26but we have a widespread area where widespread abundant moisture is present.
01:33There's a southbound front that's going to be pushing drier air in,
01:38but it will still be encountering.
01:40And in advance of this, there's widespread moisture along the Gulf Coast.
01:44So that's going to bring some widespread showers and storms to much of the southeast,
01:47both on Saturday and on Sunday as a secondary wave forms along this
01:52and brings significant rain into the mid-Atlantic states as well.
01:56Again, widespread showers and storms Saturday,
01:59a little more widespread for a time on Sunday into the mid-Atlantic.
02:03Here's the European model showing showers and storms Saturday.
02:06And then the secondary wave, it's a weak area of low pressure,
02:10but it will be enough to increase the amounts of rain across the northeast.
02:14And as we look at this here aloft, here's the upper level flow.
02:18And you can see this weak disturbance that spins up near the Gulf Coast and drifts north.
02:24It's not an organized tropical system.
02:25That interacts with some of this eastbound moisture over the southern plains
02:29and the area of Texas.
02:31And in conjunction with one another, that helps to spin up this area of slightly enhanced lift
02:36in the atmosphere over Virginia and the Carolinas on Sunday.
02:40So that's going to prolong the rain there before we see a big change.
02:44And then let's fast forward before we really get into next week.
02:47I just want to show you a couple of these city-by-city impacts here with a couple of games.
02:52Here you can see the amount of rain that we might see this weekend.
02:56And the GFS is really ramping up that weak disturbance near the northern Gulf.
03:01This is separate from the one that Bernie's tracking that could potentially organize in the southwestern Gulf.
03:06This is a weaker one to the north that will be impacting the central Gulf Coast.
03:11Modeling hinting at potential for four to eight inches of rain here in areas near Mobile and Pensacola and Hattiesburg.
03:18That's the GFS.
03:19What does the NAM do?
03:21The NAM also lights that area up.
03:23You get into the bright blues here and look at the key.
03:27We're looking at eight-plus inches of rain near Pascagoula and maybe double digits.
03:34The European also hinting at widespread drenching rain.
03:38The amount of areas, widespread areas seeing, in this case, the blues would be six inches plus, much more limited,
03:44but still some three, four, five-inch amounts near Pensacola.
03:47That's a lot of rain.
03:49So, as we go back to our graphics here, highlighting SEC football and some of the football in the southeast
03:57in general,
03:58we're looking at widespread areas with showers and storms.
04:02We can see lightning delays for some.
04:03And our official forecast before we move into next week, we have four to eight inches of rain.
04:08Mobile, Panama City, Pensacola, Pascagoula, and Gulfport.
04:12That's a big deal.
04:13I showed you that mid-Atlantic rainfall Sunday, that secondary wave that rides along the front.
04:20Rain in our forecast for Baltimore.
04:22Beware of that, but if you're farther northwest, just a gorgeous, gorgeous time.
04:26New England, a Buffalo in the NFL.
04:27Orchard Park, they've got the new stadium there.
04:29We're looking great.
04:30Mid-60s, beautiful weather there.
04:31All right, three things for next week.
04:34Sizzling, absolutely sizzling in the west.
04:36Autumn perfection Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday from the plains to the east,
04:39so that we will have some chilly nights and rounds of rain continue in Florida.
04:43Those are three big headlines for next week.
04:44So here we have the eight remaining teams in Major League Baseball that are still in it.
04:49Still in it.
04:51Six of them, with the red backplates, have traditional outdoor stadiums.
04:56Traditional outdoor stadiums.
04:58Down in Tropicana Field, there's always a roof over St. Petersburg.
05:02So thunderstorms will be an issue there.
05:04They're not going to impact play.
05:05They're under the roof.
05:06And up into Milwaukee, where we're going to have chilly nights,
05:08they have the option of the retractable roof there at American Family Field.
05:12Now, it is going to be scorching in the southwest.
05:15Take a look at this.
05:16This is the shift of tails.
05:18It's a statistical way of looking at how unusual temperatures are compared to the historical average.
05:24And man, if you look at the coast of Southern California,
05:26we're like at the top of the charts there.
05:28Extreme heat.
05:29This is the time of year, more than July.
05:32This is the time of year when extreme heat is most likely in Southern California.
05:35Even on early October standards there, it's going to be really hot.
05:38So take a look at this here.
05:39I'm going to go back to our graphics.
05:41They're going to be outside.
05:43Atlanta playing in L.A.
05:45Dodger Stadium.
05:47101 Saturday.
05:48It's a 1 o'clock local time game.
05:50Then they start at 5 Pacific time on Sunday.
05:54So it's a 4 o'clock Eastern, 1 p.m. Saturday game, 1 p.m. Pacific time.
05:58Then Sunday, it's 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific.
06:01Still sweating it out.
06:02103 is our forecast high.
06:04As hot as it's going to be here in Southern California, L.A.
06:07And then next week, the Padres, San Diego, they're hosting during the week.
06:12The Padres start, though, in Milwaukee this weekend.
06:16Then they come to the southwest.
06:18We're going to have chilly nights.
06:19We have Cleveland at home.
06:21We have New York at home.
06:24Chicago, AL at home.
06:27They're going to be layering up here, so bundle up out there.
06:31Meanwhile, that Atlanta-L.A. series, frosty nights, by the way,
06:35that Atlanta-L.A. series, it begins into L.A.,
06:40but the rain should be exiting Atlanta by the time they come home to Atlanta,
06:45and that's on Tuesday.
06:47We should be dry for game three in Atlanta.
