00:00Let me ask you, first and foremost, tonight's game, A, what is the status of Caleb Williams?
00:06Is this just he'll miss this game and we expect him back next game, or is this maybe a little
00:12bit longer?
00:13And they're going with Case Keenum, but Tyson Badger, I guess, has cleared the concussion
00:19protocol.
00:20What are we to think of that move as well with Chicago?
00:24Well, what we think of that move is he's cleared, but he was cleared late in the week.
00:30He didn't get a lot of first team reps.
00:33He's still a young quarterback in a complicated Ben Johnson system, whereas Case Keenum got
00:39all the number one reps and has more experience in the NFL.
00:43So would you want to go a young guy without first team reps or experienced guy with first
00:49team reps?
00:49This doesn't mean that Keenum is now the number two quarterback.
00:53It just means for this week, it makes the most sense for the Bears.
00:57As far as Caleb Williams goes, initially he was reported as a grade one hamstring, and
01:03now we see all this backtracking that it's a grade two.
01:07Initially, they said he could have played the next week, and he obviously didn't.
01:12And then now here we go with the revisionist history.
01:17It's a grade two.
01:18Look, on MRI grades, there's not a hard grade one, hard grade two.
01:23It's all relative in nature.
01:25And can he play?
01:27Could he play from the pocket today?
01:29Yes, but that's not the nature of his game or the NFL.
01:33And you don't want him to do what?
01:35Return too early.
01:37And I'm not being critical, but Travis Etienne perhaps returned a game too early.
01:42Re-aggravated the hamstring because now he's out multiple weeks.
01:46That was the worry with Zay Flowers returning too early.
01:49Looks like he did not return too early.
01:52Looks like he made it through with limited snaps, the game in Brazil.
01:56So they're just trying to, you know, titrate the situation with Caleb Williams.
02:01I think he's getting close here.
02:03Next week is not impossible, but most likely the week after.
02:09You know, Dr. Joe, Joe and I were having a conversation that I'm sure that would be interesting for you
02:15to weigh in as well,
02:16is that we seem to be prisoners of the moment every year with injuries and always feel like there's always
02:20more every season.
02:22And so rather than having that conversation, the one that I wanted to ask you about specifically is just focusing
02:28on quarterbacks.
02:29Joe and I were talking about how we're now, if you consider Darnold at the beginning,
02:33five different quarterbacks have had to be replaced by injury over the course of the season for a lot of
02:39different reasons.
02:39And, you know, certainly one of them was season ending in Jackson Dart.
02:43Do you think that changes the impact of the league?
02:46Because it does feel like without healthy starting quarterbacks in the league,
02:50we're almost doomed to have these low scoring games because of the poor backups that we have in the league.
02:55Is there anything you think that can be done more than what they're doing already?
02:59Because I would hate to think in two weeks from now, we'll have 10 quarterbacks out.
03:03Yes, run less, extend plays less.
03:06Let's go through the quarterbacks that were injured.
03:09My long-term quarterback, Phillip Rivers, had the longest active starting game streak, quote, ever.
03:15Ironman streak.
03:16Yes, he got hurt, but he got rid of the ball and he didn't run.
03:20Eli Manning didn't run.
03:22Tom Brady didn't run much.
03:24Peyton Manning didn't run.
03:26Those guys had longevity.
03:28Let's break down the injury.
03:30Kyler Murray, concussion, running for a first down and got hit.
03:34Jackson Dart wasn't running, but was extending plays, jump pass when he got hit.
03:40Sam Darnold was trying to escape the pocket when he got crunched.
03:45Caleb Williams was running for the goal line when he got hit.
03:50Jayden Daniels, okay, it was dropping back on the goal line there.
03:54He got stepped on.
03:55But even he was trying to extend the play by righting himself instead of just going down to the ground
04:01or throwing it away.
04:02So, the style of quarterback play is just different.
04:06There's a lot more exposure.
04:08I've been hoping this year that Josh Allen doesn't get hurt.
04:12He got dinged yesterday.
04:15Hurt, not injured.
04:17Lateral knee contusion, IT band, some stiffness, seen postgame in the locker room.
04:23But he runs a lot.
04:25He's bigger than people, and he's been very healthy.
04:28But remember, he's the targetee, not the targeter.
04:32So, even I worry for Josh Allen, as big as he is.
04:36I think it's the way the position has changed.
