00:00But last night had to have been one of the, and I thought the game was going to be terrible,
00:05but as far as Hall of Fame games go and preseason football had to be one of the more entertaining
00:12games I least expected to see in a very, very long time there.
00:17And not because, you know, Kenny Pickett was playing in it, but because I was going to
00:22be real interested to see what we were going to get from Haynes King, who a lot of people
00:27thought should have came out of Georgia Tech earlier than he did.
00:32Undrafted, you know, free agent rookie, signed with Carolina.
00:36And of course, Carson Beck from the U and Georgia, both guys feel like they played until they
00:41were 40 in college.
00:43But can I tell you something?
00:45They were both pretty good against the second and third teamers.
00:49You know, granted, it wasn't the starters, but so what?
00:53You still got to be able to, to produce no matter who you're playing with.
00:57And I got to tell you, I was pretty impressed with both guys last night.

01:01I tell you, you know, outside of having to deal with Chris Collinsworth, who it only took
01:06me one game to remind me how bad he, oh, is he just brutal?
01:10I mean, Carson Beck's first drive, Joe, he's talking about how he's like a seven time all
01:15pro play.
01:16Even Mike Tirico, who's pretty good.
01:19I like Mike.
01:19Even he was like, Chris, take it easy.
01:22It's the first freaking drive.
01:23Let him get out of the first quarter before you send him to the hall of fame here.
01:26I know it's the hall of fame.
01:27The game, oh, Collinsworth is such, he's just unlistenable, Joe.
01:30He's just unlistenable.
01:31But that said, you know, the other thing we learned with is, you know, these mediocre
01:36quarterbacks, like the Kenny Picketts of the world, one thing I've noticed in these preseason
01:39games, if they stink in the regular season, if they actually play, they generally also stink
01:45in the preseason.
01:46It's the rookies who come in that actually tend to play a little bit better versus the
01:50Kenny Picketts of the world.
01:51And that's how a lot of people, you know, bet on basically who the backup quarterbacks
01:55are, right?
01:56But I also love to look for these scrambling quarterbacks.
01:59And really, it came to perfection.
02:00I like Carolina.
02:01It looks like I'm fortunate, right?
02:02But the reason they won is because, you know, Haynes King is running the ball all over the
02:06place on that last drive, including the touchdown drive.
02:09Looks like he's got a little moxie.
02:11You know, he's not a bad guy to keep on your roster.
02:13So, yeah, it was a good entertainment, 33-30, man.
02:16This is also, Joe, the fifth time that the Hall of Fame game has gone over.
02:21I know the perception is with these preseason games, you know, 10-3 all over the place, but
02:25that's really not the case.
02:27A lot of these preseason games, actually, because there's fewer games.
02:30So, you get starters playing a little bit more each game.
02:33So, I like the over.
02:35I hit with Carolina.
02:36But that said, who cares what I've done?
02:38But I was impressed with Haynes King and Carson Beck, both of them.
02:42I, again, I wasn't, I thought for sure it was going to be terrible, but you're right.
02:47It's a fifth straight now, Hall of Fame over, Hall of Fame game over.
02:51So, and usually, it's supposed to be, I mean, call me crazy, but it's supposed to be the
02:57defenses are supposed to be ahead of the offenses.
03:01If any of those guys in the secondary in either Arizona or Carolina are vying for either a
03:09starting role or a backup role, they might want to find some other avenue to make a living
03:16because, boy, oh boy, those secondaries got absolutely torched.
03:22But, having said that, I mean, let's look at who the backup quarterbacks are going to be
03:26for both those teams this year.
03:28Gardner Minshew and Kenny Pickett.
03:31Did I, you know, both of those guys that I watched last night are more than capable of
03:36taking the backup role from the Kenny Picketts and Gardner Minshews of the world.
03:41Scott, am I right?
03:42Yeah, absolutely.
03:43You know, and people don't realize, or maybe they do, I don't know.
03:46But, you know, if you're a backup like Kenny Pickett or Gardner Minshew, you make more money.
03:52Every year when you're in the league, you make more and more.
03:55Your minimum is higher and higher and higher, which means you've got to really outperform
04:00the Carson Becks or the Haynes Kings of the world.
04:02Otherwise, teams will just say, well, why should we pay you, you know, $750,000 when we could
04:07pay this guy $300,000?
04:09So, yeah, those guys, you know, one game, great.
04:13But they may have earned themselves at least a decent shot anyway of sticking on these clubs.
04:17Yeah, both look good.
04:19And you know what, Liv?
04:20It's one thing that we know that this league needs.
04:23It's quarterbacks of all shapes and sizes and all different types.
04:28Now, Carson Beck, you know, experience, yes.
04:31The guy's played a lot of football in his time.
04:34He's not going to run all over you, but he didn't a couple of times, progressed through
04:39his read last night and ran the ball three or four yards for a first down.
04:43And guess what?
04:44You can make a living in the NFL if you can do that all year.
04:48Just I don't want either of those guys anywhere near the Jets because I only need them to win
04:53one or two games this year.
04:54That's all I'm looking for out of them.
04:57But, you know, Chris Wink is another guy.
05:00It feels like he played 100 years in college football, right?
05:03These guys, they come in.
05:04They're not intimidated.
05:05It's not too big for them.
05:07And they come in and they do what they've been doing for the last 17 years in college football
05:12is they go out there and they play the game.
