00:00I have really enjoyed every second of watching other people react to the energy that Jared
00:07Verse is bringing here. Obviously, we had Todd Munkin on this station with his press conference
00:13the other day talking about just how wild he was by Jared Verse staying after practice with
00:18Spencer Fauno. I don't want to do the thing where we compare each guy to each other at all points,
00:26but what I can tell you is when you've got a team full of guys like Jared Verse and that
00:32energy cannot
00:33be replicated. When you've got guys that are about the team and that are loving and infectious,
00:40you cannot understate the importance of that in building culture that goes beyond just are we
00:46winning or not. Daryl and I were talking about this a little bit on Sunday, Nick, just the fact that
00:50with Jared, it feels like he bought in and it felt like with Myles Garrett. Again, we're not trying
00:56to compare the two and that's going to become such a tiresome thing, but with Myles, it felt like you
01:01were always trying to get him to buy in and he never fully did. Maybe at times he had one
01:07foot
01:07bought in and one foot bought out. Sometimes he was riding that fence, but Myles was about Myles.
01:12We spent a lot of time hoping that Myles would buy into whatever iteration of Browns football we were
01:17trying to throw at Myles and it just never fully clicked. Whereas it felt like with Jared Verse,
01:22he admitted on his own accord, he was upset, disappointed when the trade happened, went from
01:28Super Bowl favorite in the Rams to Cleveland who wouldn't be, but then it felt like he bought in
01:33right away and he's kind of helping this coaching staff with their messaging to get other guys,
01:38other vets to buy in. And it is a really positive thing that we've been able to see unfold out
01:43here
01:43since spring practices and obviously now into training camp. Yeah. And I just think it's as simple
01:48as I think Jared Verse mimics the culture that Todd Munkin wants. Same thing with Spencer Fano.
01:55And I think you start to look at the green dot guy, sorry, the orange dot guys they brought in.
02:00Like I remember a town where if you're good at football, we're going to love you. Right.
02:08But at the same point, if you're, if you got a team chock full of orange dot guys and you,
02:15and they play hard, we can accept, Hey man, we got a B plus year instead of an A. What
02:21made,
02:21what I think the last, you know, Baker and for as many people that loved him, Baker was a complicated
02:26guy for people, right? Miles was a complicated guy for people. Certainly Deshaun is a complicated
02:32guy for people. And I think the Browns, and I know Deshaun's still here, but I think mostly the Browns
02:38are devoid of complicated guys from a Browns fan perspective. And again, Jared Verse, Jared
02:45Verse doesn't have to be every bit the player that Miles was, but if he's 90% the player and
02:53twice the
02:53teammate, twice the leader, I'm sorry. I think you win that trade no matter what happens with the
02:59first, second and third round picks you got for him as well. And I think that's something that like
03:04is going to take time because in February, if miles is hoisting the Lombardi, you know,
03:09that Monday after the Superbowl, there were going to be a lot of upset Browns fans. And rightfully so
03:14miles is a generational talent and it is a bummer that he's not here, but they found a suitable
03:19replacement from an on the field perspective. I think verse is going to have a career year in
03:23numbers. Don't you? Yeah. But I get to get back to that. Like I'm not bummed that miles isn't here.
03:29That's what surprised me so much is once you got over the emotions of the trade, and again,
03:34I wouldn't have traded miles. Miles is a hall of famer. That guy should have been a one helmet
03:39player. And the fact he's not is an indictment of how this thing has been run. But the same point,
03:45miles was a part of the losing. And I, I, I'll be honest. If you went to miles and said,
03:50how are you going to have all your stats and you're going to be on a six win team, or
03:55you can have,
03:56uh, none of the stats and you can be on a super bowl winning team. I think miles would rather
04:01be
04:01the best player on a six win team because miles was about me and not having that anymore to worry
04:08and basically try and do the mental gymnastics. Right. And, and again, I don't, I didn't realize
04:13I felt this way until watching Jared verse. And it's like, man, that is a like watching Jared verse
04:20react and watching people react to Jared, his teammates, his coaches. Like that's what being
04:26a Cleveland Brown is supposed to be. If you're a Cleveland Browns fan, this isn't a Miami, this
04:31isn't LA right where you can just kind of be a jag and do whatever the hell you want. And
04:36as long as
04:37you're good, people are going to know your name. Like the person matters. We know it seems like we got
04:42an upgrade. And Browns fans do notice that. I do think that is one piece of the fan base where
04:47Lima and I were debating, you know, how smart are Browns fans and Lima debated, not very smart
04:53because of all people that were blowing them up. I was debating, but I think Browns fans are pretty
04:58smart. And I actually think Browns fans and in Cleveland, by the way, bold of you to say that
05:03I do very proud of you for saying that. Not a lot of guys would say it, but I'm, I'm
05:08willing to go
05:08out there. But I think it's true because I do think that this is a place that actually understands
05:14everything that goes into it. Like, like to your point with verse, if he's only 90% the
05:19player, but double the leader, I think that resonates with Browns fans that, Hey, he might
05:23not ever get a 24 sack season. Like miles could potentially have with LA. I don't think he's
05:28going to, but if he's twice the leader and he puts up 15 sacks and the Browns win a bunch
05:33of games and he's bought in and there's plenty of signs of leadership throughout, we're going
05:37to have no qualms. Here's the other part. I'm, I'm a little sick of people talking about
05:41the Browns defense. Like there are no name, like Alex Wright is a dog. Isaiah McGuire is
05:47a dog. Mason Graham was a top five draft pick and played with all throughout the second half
05:52of last year that everybody keeps referencing was so great. He had broken ribs and people
05:56and people forget that people conflate his lack of sack production with a lack of actual
06:02production. So he actually had a lot of quarterback hits and pressures last year. Malik Collins,
06:07who is, I mean, a huge part of miles chasing that record last year was Malik Collins
06:11pressure up the middle. Oh, look at that. If you can't hear it, the young kids are losing
06:15their mind because Shador is there. You know, these little guys just want to do a six, seven
06:20or maybe a dab to be kids still dab these days or just dapped up Bernie. And I think the
06:26older
06:27crowd went crazy because he dapped up Bernie and the kids are going crazy because he's walking
06:31closer to them to start signing some stuff. Now, while we talk about that, but like, and even
06:36beyond that guys like Aiden Huntington and I still, I actually have ever since they, you know,
06:42got close to signing Jadavian Clowney. Now I want another edge rusher, but like this team has talent.
06:48And yes, I think Jared verse is going to be the face of that defensive line, but I think people
06:53are
06:53going to realize miles is great. Miles is a singular talent. This team still has, has, has talent.
06:59And I think, I think it might feel a little less lopsided in that room over who gets the attention
07:06defensively and who doesn't. Yeah. Yeah. It might be more evenly dispersed now amongst those guys.
07:12And it might just be a really elite defense instead of one elite player that you hear so much about
07:17because he's the guy getting four or five sacks in a given game. I'm, you know, Malik Collins hasn't
07:22even been out here by the way, and this defensive line has looked this good. Um, he's still on that
07:26pup list. I did want to push back. You, you want another edge. Oh yeah. I'll take another edge or
07:31another, uh, interior pass rush. So were you, you were in on Clowney? Yeah, I actually was. I'm not,
07:37I'm not disappointed. Do you know why dude still plays at a high level and JP kind of convinced me
07:43maybe a lot of the smoke here was miles versus Jadavian and the fact that Munkin was with him in
07:49Baltimore three years ago.
