00:00The trade deadline is always so exciting because you don't know who is going to get traded.
00:07And there's like this moment of, oh my gosh, are we going to see X, Y, and Z get traded?
00:13And when the top name does get traded, that is huge.
00:17There's really nothing that can compare to Tarek Skubel going from the Tigers as the two-time defending American League
00:26Cy Young champion to go to the Dodgers, where he will instantly be at the top of the rotation for
00:32one of the greatest rotations on paper that we have ever seen constructed in Major League Baseball.
00:38It is truly ridiculous what the Dodgers have right now, and that is without Otani pitching.
00:44If Otani comes back and pitches, it's even more ridiculous.
00:47But next year and the year after, and they're probably going to grab Skubel for five to seven years after
00:54this.
00:56This team is already deferring $1.1 billion.
01:00That's the number that's got everybody up in arms.
01:02They're going to be deferring probably even more because you've got to assume the Skubel deal will be under the
01:07current collective bargaining agreement, not the new one, whatever the new one will be.
01:13If we even get a new one coming up this winter, so there'll be even more money deferred.
01:21They're doing what you should do when you have the advantage, right?
01:27This show is called Pushing the Odds.
01:30If you know poker, what does pushing the odds mean?
01:32It means that when you have the advantage, when you have the mathematical advantage over your opponent, you should push
01:39it.
01:40You should push the odds.
01:41The Dodgers are pushing the odds.
01:44They have the money advantage.
01:45They have the fan base advantage.
01:47They have the talent advantage.
01:48And so they are pushing their chips to the middle of the table and saying, go for it.
01:53They also have a war chest of prospects to go and grab a hold of and utilize.
01:58And so that's the biggest trade of the trade deadline.
02:03Skubel going to the Dodgers is not going to be topped.
02:05But behind it, Adelaide Rushman going to the Red Sox is a huge deal on a variety of different fronts.
02:14Let's take it from the Orioles perspective for a second.
02:17This is a 1v or 1.1 guy.

02:22Round one, pick one.
02:25Rushman was the top pick in the 2019 draft.
02:28He was the major linchpin.
02:32He was the focal point.
02:33He was the guy that helped this Orioles franchise win the division, make the playoffs in 2023 and 24.
02:40This was an Orioles team that looked like they were on the come-up, that they were going to be
02:47a team.
02:47Red Sox, Yankees, Orioles, right?
02:50Or Blue Jays, Yankees, Orioles.
02:53Like you thought this team had some faces, some players, some pieces that were going to be there for a

03:02Rushman's been hurt a lot over the last three years.
03:05He's a catcher.
03:06Catchers get beat up.
03:07Their fingers break.
03:09They get bumps and bruises and they're sore.
03:13Look, I was a catcher coming up.
03:15I don't think I ever caught anyone faster than 85 miles per hour, but it hurts.
03:21Okay.
03:22Playing catcher hurts.
03:23And you play for 150 games or so, you're going to have knee problems, wrist problems.
