00:00We keep hearing, I believe, Red Sox and Giants are in the process of trying to close a deal.
00:08Eric Miller, the reliever, looks like he might be heading to Boston.
00:13Marcelo Meyer was, you had mentioned, Greg, was a very highly touted prospect.
00:18Could be on his way to the Giants.
00:20So the Giants are really lighting a match and starting from scratch here.
00:24And the Red Sox just keep bolstering here, get some of that bullpen solidified in the back end.
00:31And boy, oh boy, you got to appreciate teams that have just pushed it all in and said, you know
00:37what, it's now or never.
00:39It's interesting.
00:40Yeah, and look, I think the Giants are, you know, kind of a case where it's a little fascinating to
00:47me, Joe,
00:48because the previous president of baseball operations there was the guy who came from the Dodgers and Farhan Zaidi.
00:55And you may remember the Giants were very big on and still are probably big on analytics
01:00and making sure they restock their farm system and all that jazz like every other team.
01:06And then Buster Posey came in, Joe, immediately traded for Devers and traded away Harrison and a bunch of prospects.
01:12And then now he's pivoting exactly back to where Farhan Zaidi was a couple of years ago.
01:18So what's interesting to me, Joe, is that there's obviously this level of cachet and greatness for Buster Posey
01:27because he played for the organization and he's arguably a top five giant of all time at the worst.
01:33I mean, Barry Bonds, Willie McCovey and Marichal.
01:37So, I mean, Buster Posey's in that conversation of guys.
01:40But, Joe, it's like going, you're driving one way and then you just make a U-turn and now they're
01:46going back the other way.
01:48But, I mean, it looks like they got a lot of young players and I think they're going to end
01:51up doing a good job.
01:52But it does beg the question, where is the ship headed out?
01:58You know, where is the sail headed for San Francisco?
02:00I don't know the answer.
02:00Maybe part of that, Joe, is that they just can't secure any good players in free agency.
02:05Nobody wants to play there and they're going to have to try things to do things a different way.
02:08The only way they can do it is via trade because anytime they sign someone, it feels like it's an
02:13overpay of some kind.
02:15Willie Adamas, Jorge Soler.
02:17It feels like they got to overpay bad contracts to get players to go there.
02:20So, maybe this bodes well for the future.
02:23But I would tell you this, cap, floor, CBA, no CBA, Joe.
02:27The Giants are not going to be a good club next year.
02:28This is headed into, I think, at least a year of a rebuild.
02:33For the Yankees, I don't think this is enough to win the World Series for them.
02:37I don't think this is enough to win the American League for them.
02:39I think other teams have done better today than them.
02:43Yes.
02:44And it's, again, you know, Ramos is okay.
02:48Gives him a righty bat, outfielder, some flexibility.
02:51But, you know, Garcia, obviously, was the bat they were hoping they could get and did get.
02:58But is it enough with what the Red Sox are doing, and especially what Tampa did over the last couple
03:05of days?
03:06Tampa, I mean, I guess we should not be shocked that Tampa goes out, makes some moves.
03:12They have every reason to push their chips in and give this thing a go.
03:17How do you rank what they've done so far?
03:20Well, I'm not a huge fan of Peralta, but there's a handful of teams that Peralta could go to, including
03:27Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland, those three in particular, that seem to get the best out of what you throw,
03:35Joe, and make it your primary attack.
03:38And, look, maybe Peralta, Joe, becomes just one of those four-inning guys, both guys in Tampa Bay.
03:44But if so, what's wrong with that?
03:46Nothing wrong with that at this point.
03:48They did not give up a ton to get him.
03:50They gave up a little bit more, it feels like, to get Liam Hicks from Miami.
03:54They gave up three prospects, including their first-round pick from 2023 that will slide into AA or AAA with
04:01Miami and maybe become their third baseman.
04:03The other two players were a little bit down the list as far as their top 30 is concerned, so
04:07not top 100 prospects.
04:09But the first player they got, Taylor, Braden Taylor, was one of them.
04:12So, with Hicks, Joe, it's pretty simple.
04:14Any time the Rays face right-handed pitching, Liam Hicks is going to play either DH, catch, or play first
04:22base.
04:22It's exactly what he did in Miami, and now he's going to do it with the Rays, and it's going
04:28to help them.
04:28It's going to help them now.
04:29It's going to help them in the postseason, and he signed for like a million years.
04:32So, he was a Rule 5 guy.
04:34He doesn't have any contract status except for going through this process, eventually get to arbitration.
04:39But he'll be the Rays.
04:41He's not like an elite catcher, but he'll be the Rays catcher of now and the future.
04:46And so, for a team that's going for it, it made a lot of sense.
04:50And Tampa Bay and Miami have a lot of familiarity with each other.
04:52So, my guess is that's sort of how that deal came together.

04:57Well, I'm sure he knows, I believe, right?
05:00You said a lot of familiarity.
05:02I think the player is on their way too.
05:05Right.
05:05He came from Tampa.
05:06So, he's got to know exactly what he's getting in return there.
05:10So, but Tampa certainly didn't sit on their hands and hope they got better.
05:16They went out and did something.
05:18So, kudos to them, but we're not done yet.
