00:05well good morning and welcome to the karshen anderson program happy friday everybody
00:11as we've made it through another week and and quite frankly um uh happy that i have survived
00:17uh this week gator off all week and kang off uh as well uh but thankfully you know what yeah
00:24coaches and general managers are uh they always talk about depth we got some depth here at the
00:30station so let me uh let me go behind a glass and thank bobby next man up yeah yeah bobby
00:35did a nice
00:36job uh all week long thank you very much i i work you pretty hard don't i oh man especially
00:41this past
00:41couple days with all the scoogle news grab this out grab that sound and paul on phones paul thank you
00:48very much for the the work you've done oh no problem yep paul brings brings an intensity unlike
00:53any other so uh we do appreciate uh what those guys have done all week long and uh stations stations
01:01got some depth and thank all of you for listening all week long and it feels like it's still a
01:05big
01:05week and we will talk about uh give the very latest on on scuba reporting uh including mlb insider ken
01:13rosenthal uh rose we'll get to dissecting a little bit of what we aren't going to play all of morose
01:19he
01:19will play some of what morose he said but we will dissect a lot of that uh coming up in
01:24the 11
01:24o'clock hour but we will start with a non-scouble tiger topic and that is hey it's max clark
01:31day
01:33and um it's kind of funny that his first major league game will be played in essentially a minor
01:41league park there in sacramento against oakland uh but whatever it's not that that's particularly
01:48important um what is important um what is important is is that we get to see this prospect
01:55uh who has been touted a little bit as a potential five tool guy you know i i don't i
02:04don't want to
02:04get carried away but uh this year in the minors he hit 11 home runs had 21 stolen bases he
02:14hit 276 with
02:16the 802 ops and you know there's there's some interesting things ramifications of calling
02:23them up i've talked about the 40 man roster edition and what it might mean if there's a work stoppage
02:27next year i've also haven't talked about this much but there's no service time manipulation going on
02:34they could have waited there's a there's a date in august that if you debut after that you hang on
02:40to
02:41your rookie status um but but you know we haven't reached that date yet and let me google search
02:47what it is because um they're calling this guy up just before that date when sorry when can a player
02:56be called up in mlb and still be considered a rookie so that is um rookie eligibility thresholds 45 days
03:10total on a major league roster i suppose he it could send him back down um anyway so he's going
03:17to exceed that if he stays with the big club the rest of the way so he will not retain
03:21rookie
03:21eligibility so there's two things about that service time manipulation not in play here secondly is
03:27major league baseball has tried to incentivize people to call up their rookies by if your rookie
03:33wins rookie of the year you get rewarded with a compensatory pick i believe it's after the first
03:39round and that that right now strong case can be made obviously for kevin mcgonigal and you know
03:47clark won't be eligible for this next year and he also might have to sit out if there's a work
03:52stoppage
03:53but they they want him up now and so has he earned it like if you take a look at
03:59his season and i broke it
04:04he had a 794 ops he hit one home run and 94 bats stole six bases and i think i'm
04:12going to include the
04:13base stealing because he's touted as a guy who can do everything he can he can field in spite of
04:19what
04:19we saw in spring training he brings great speed to the outfield uh there's potential there reportedly has
04:25a good arm so you know you've got a guy who could hit for average power steel bases play the
04:31field
04:31well and has a good arm five tool guy first month 794 ops one homer six stolen bases second month
04:39went
04:39down 631 ops but he did and with one homer eight eight walks three stolen bases the walk numbers are
04:47interesting too the third month okay he had four home runs 11 walks 15 strikeouts 763 ops so these
04:56numbers have been kind of similar down second month in july so this is his last month he hit five
05:04in 71
05:04at bats so the fewest at bats he had he had 71 at bats his best month in terms of
05:10power he had five home
05:11runs he walked 16 times that was his best month in terms of walks stole four bases his op
05:17s was 1080 so july was his best month max clark came up and max clark had his best month
05:24in july
05:25he didn't come up max clark showed up and had his best month in july and has earned the call
05:32up
05:33now we we await the corresponding move um but i gotta give credit where credit is due
05:41and that is something that maybe everybody realized when this news broke yesterday this exciting news
05:47about highly touted top prospect rookie max clark getting called up uh but the first person i heard
05:54connect these dots and if it's if it was obvious to you my apologies i didn't get it but scott
06:02bentley
06:02of locked on made a great point in connecting the dots and saying this increases the likelihood
06:09that they're preparing for a glaber torres trade why is that you ask well you don't call up max clark
06:20for for him not to play you call up max clark and he's handed right hand to left hand and
06:26pitching
06:26roughly equally you call up max clark to play there's a lefty on the mound tonight shouldn't matter max clark
06:33will uh i think will be in the lineup tonight but that means okay you have an excess of center
06:43fielders outman very well could just get released i haven't seen a corresponding move yet
06:49but javi baez who's been playing in center field also can play second base or he can go to shortstop
06:59and you can look at moving you know mcgonigal around the infield you have some positional flexibility
07:03with how you lee and so what it essentially does is likely take innings away it can take innings away
07:14maybe likely is not the word but can take innings away from javi baez in center field
07:18he goes back to play more infield and there is a opening in quotes potentially with glaber torres
07:27getting moved and there is smoke around glaber torres getting moved uh as we approach the trade
07:33deadline zero hour monday at 6 p.m maybe all of you realized that yesterday i did not and again
07:39credit
07:39to scott bentley who does a good job uh who i was listening to and i'm like oh yeah yeah
07:45huh um so i i
07:48like this i like this possibility look they're in a position that the sell-off is is obvious i don't
07:56think this was done for any other reason than baseball reasons and they're not manipulating um
08:04they're not manipulating uh service time they're not manipulating the rookie of the year they're
08:09calling clark up i mean some people maybe maybe they're you know and i know there's a lot of cynicism
08:14out there and say oh they're just doing this to distract from the fact that their seasons imploded
08:18you know i i guess maybe but i i don't i don't think that way a little bit i don't
08:25think they're
08:25they're doing that but i suppose they could be end of the day it's exciting tonight in oakramento late
08:33game uh this is one new absolutely i think you absolutely stay up for to see what this kid is
08:39and you know what we did at the beginning of the season we talked about best case scenario
08:44with kevin mcgonigal it has been pretty much the best case scenario we are comparing what nick
08:51kurtz did uh to win the american league rookie of the year with oakland last year and you know did
08:57the mjm thing maybe just maybe our guy can do that and our guy has done that he's been fantastic
09:04what if we have two of those guys that's the best case scenario right mjm max clark also can play
09:11at
09:12this level and there there has to be patience and acceptance if he doesn't hit the ground running
09:19like mcgonigal i seriously can't remember a tiger rookie highly touted tiger rookie that has come up
09:31and immediately established himself the way mcgonigal has when mcgonigal comes to the plate
09:36do you think he's going to come through and sure there's been some good rookies there's been flashes
09:43in the pan the flashes in the pan and everybody cites chris shelton and brennan bosch those guys
09:47weren't like the organization's top prospects and so they when you come out of nowhere debut like that
09:56and everybody's oh where'd they find this guy those guys can't fade and i think you know they
10:02were a prime example of of guys who overachieved when they first got here here comes max clark
10:08highly touted prospect uh boy it would put some juice already in a 2027 season provided there is a
10:152027 season if clark hits the ground running but i ask you tiger fans what's your level of excitement
10:22here has this become appointment viewing what's your expectation have you seen him play in toledo
10:29huh did you go down there to watch where are you at with this what would be otherwise exciting news
10:37everything's gotten trumped by what's going on with the trade deadline which is sucking all the oxygen
10:42out of the air but but max clark will be wearing tiger uniform tonight i haven't seen what number he's
10:49going to wear let's see if we can figure that out if anybody's got any guesses what number max clark's
10:57going to wear like to hear it 248-539-9797 we of course have open lines we'll have the very
11:04latest
11:04from the tarix scoogle trade center update desk coming up at 10 30 in the meantime we're opening with a
11:11little something different 248-539-9797 carson anderson gator out today 971
11:17so
11:17Wow
11:17you
